Pavement parking Ban.

How would you be affected if there was a blanket ban on all pavement parking.

I'm not just talking about the inability to get a pram or wheelchair passed but a complete ban on any car on the pavement at all.

The other thing that occurs to me is you do pay more car insurance to park on the street so it is disincentivised somewhat.

ivykaty44 · 14/03/2020 07:52

Busy main road, and woman has to run round two cars blocking the pavement to pushchairs. It’s selfish and puts others at a disadvantage

It’s become common place for drivers to mount the pavement to park without considering that small people have every right to be there, using this infrastructure that is intended for people not drivers

If been on the other side of the argument as well with a pushchair it's annoying yes but not the end of the world it doesn't affect the rest of my day

ivykaty44 · 14/03/2020 08:09

Raaaa Now change the pushchair first a wheelchair

I have customers who are trapped inside and can’t get out of their homes due to this, they’ve dared to go out and then got trapped on thier return unable to get home. One tried to get down the kerb, tipped up and came out of his chair

Perhaps for you it might be a minor inconvenience, but for others it’s not so simple

katiegoestoaldi · 14/03/2020 08:14

I support the ban 100%

Mysterian · 14/03/2020 10:09

I think people who park inconsiderately need to get ticketed more. No need to change the law. Just enforce what we've got.

purdypuma · 14/03/2020 10:20

Just to be clear my sisters house is on a straight stretch of road with a bend to the left a couple of houses afterwards so I'm not parking on a bend. However this still does not resolve the issue of buses having to swing wide as they take the bend, therefore my or any other vehicle not partially parked on the kerb would be a sitting duck waiting to be hit by buses & emergency service vehicles could not get through. I will add that I am ex emergency services & have encountered impassable roads due to vehicles being parked completely on the road. This adds to response times & can make all the difference in an emergency situation.
Neither do I park blocking a school entrance, the school road runs across the top of my sisters road, almost diagonally leading to countless times that my sister has her drive blocked etc.
Unfortunately things arent always black & white & my sisters road would grind to a halt if cars did not park partially on the pavement.

Raaaa · 14/03/2020 11:29

Yeah they aren't all black and white.
We have a mcgarthglen shopping centre near us with 2 big car parks and parking is £1 for 4 hours and if you spend over £100 it's free. Yet people want to manoeuvre down narrow residential streets in their range rovers to avoid paying which leaves the residents nowhere to park. The council won't make it residents parking (I don't know if the shopping centre have something to do with this incase they think they will lose business). Nightmare

ivykaty44 · 14/03/2020 13:58

Today 10:09 Mysterian

What would the drivers be ticketed for?

The photographs above...police phoned and all they can do is ask the drivers not to block the pavement 🤷‍♀️ so unless the law is changed nothing can be done

SarahInAccounts · 14/03/2020 16:22

Unfortunately things arent always black & white & my sisters road would grind to a halt if cars did not park partially on the pavement.

No. Don't park there at all. Simple. Not on the road, not on the pavement. Leave the pavement to pedestrians.

safariboot · 14/03/2020 16:45

@ivykaty44 I don't know the exact offence, but police can and do issue fines and penalty points for inconsiderate, dangerous, and illegal parking. They also have the power to remove the vehicle and the owner must pay to get it back.

If your local police force is being spineless regarding it, campaign and vote for more enforcement. For example West Midlands Police periodically crack down on it with "Operation Parksafe".

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 14/03/2020 16:45

Not on the road, not on the pavement

And you want people to put their cars where?

OP posts:
cologne4711 · 14/03/2020 16:55

What would the drivers be ticketed for

Driving on the pavement - which is already illegal.

cologne4711 · 14/03/2020 16:56

And you want people to put their cars where

Pavements are for pedestrians. The problem of where to park is for drivers to solve.

purdypuma · 14/03/2020 17:21

And where would you like me to park my car...roof of my sisters house maybe?🤔Hang on a minute!....I'll just get my magic carpet to use instead of my car!....but alas! I live in the real world, I despise public transport, I love the independence that my car allows & my car is essential for work. Simple.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 14/03/2020 17:27

@cologne4711 you said not on the road. Not on the pavement. And also it's not illegal at all. If not restricted then a car can safely partially park on the pavement.

OP posts:
itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 14/03/2020 17:27

But it's not drivers who are kicking off.

OP posts:
SarahInAccounts · 14/03/2020 17:31

And you want people to put their cars where?

Somewhere legal.

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 17:32

Pavements are for pedestrians

Maybe you could tell all the people who use ours as a cycle path that.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 14/03/2020 17:33

@SarahInAccounts again. It's not always illegal not to put the car on the pavement.

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 17:33

*And you want people to put their cars where?

Pavement parking is legal outside London.

SarahInAccounts · 14/03/2020 17:34

Cars parked on pavements in our lane get tickets. It's obstruction. As I said earlier residents can upload photos of them to a police website and fines follow.

The sooner that goes nationwide the better for the disabled and partially sighted.

SarahInAccounts · 14/03/2020 17:35

Pavement parking is legal outside London.

Obviously not or people wouldn't be getting fined for obstruction.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 14/03/2020 17:52

Obstruction yes. But that does mean that you can not park on the pavement.
