What normal thing are you shit at?

When my brother was learning to drive, he drove better in reverse - I have no idea why, or if it's a "thing", but he was utterly shit at driving forwards! 😂 obviously he can do it now.

I can't use a curling tong, or blow dry my hair using a brush & drier. I can't coordinate my hands to do it. In my mind, I feel like I'm going to look in the mirror & look like Farah Fawcett, but every time I look like Jimmy Saville.

What normal thing do you struggle to do?

I can't fry eggs. At all!! I've tried the pan hot, the pan cool, you name it... they go wrong every time...

LargeGinOnTap · 04/03/2020 23:10

Changing the duvet etc

Haroldhardrada · 04/03/2020 23:10

Fry an egg - they always end up looking like scrambled eggs or a really crap omelette

MangoM · 04/03/2020 23:11

I've never been able to do a zip wire.

I'll jump, but just miss the seat entirely. I just can't seem to get that initial jump right Blush I always have to get someone to help me on.

Walnutwhipster · 04/03/2020 23:11

Parking, my car parks itself, which may or may not have been the reason I bought it...

I'm a chef, upcycle furniture, have green fingers, etc. I can do anything practical but any skill at sewing completely passed me by.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 04/03/2020 23:12

I can't sing a note. If I could have a wish it would be to sing in tune.

clary · 04/03/2020 23:13

I'm not very good at remembering the way to somewhere, even I have driven it before.

Ds2 directed me last week on a route he had done once with DH, I was amazed he could remember it, but maybe I am just rubbish. I have a good memory, maybe it's a spatial thing. I drove the route again tonight and I was all "do I go left here?" driving poor ds mad! :)

elQuintoConyo · 04/03/2020 23:13

I was also a pro at reverse driving - 3-point turn on a hill? Fantastic. Reverse round a corner? Nailed it. Driving forwards in a straight line? Fucking useless. Hence I don't drive.

I'm shit at cooking, truly shit, and I hate it.

Great at sewing, currently sewing a dolly, bag and clothes for friend's 1yo's birthday. I could sort out everyone's kids' fancy dress costumes on the WBD thread currently running Grin we just had carnival and I knocked out three great costumes.

Keeping tidy I am shit at, house is a bombsite, clean but stuff everywhere.

mnnn · 04/03/2020 23:14

Buttons, zips and buckles - especially bras . I take them on and off like a T-shirt , always have done .

Tying shoe laces, I momentarily panic if I’m ever required to tie them in front of someone else . I didn’t learn until I was 25 or so ...

Douberry · 04/03/2020 23:14

Mental arithmetic, even really simple sums. Actually anything that requires numbers or sequences like calculating times or days. I'm academically well qualified and have a senior job but just don't numbers Blush

nimsem2 · 04/03/2020 23:16

Folding a fitted sheet Hmm

Straightomyhead · 04/03/2020 23:16

Packing... I'm going away for two nights. I might need this amount of stuff, you never know. I just have the inability to pack light.

clary · 04/03/2020 23:16

I can do maths tho and do up my bra and sew and cook... It's a good thing we all have different skills eh

toffeeghirl · 04/03/2020 23:17

I agree with almost everything above!
I'm crap at:
Directions/ map reading
Driving
Setting up any electrical device
Blow drying/ any hair styling
Applying make up
Fashion sense
Baking
Any craft skill - sewing/ knitting/ crocheting. I blame being left handed which brings me to potato peeling/ tin openers/ scissors etc (I've broken every left handed device, so just use the regular utensils, badly!)
Drawing
Wallpapering/ painting
Sleeping
Concentrating
Singing
Learning languages
Learning to play guitar

Oh god I better just stop right there. I'm embarrassing myself. I don't know how I've managed to get this far in life without any practical skills BlushConfused

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/03/2020 23:18

Another one for parking, I'm just terrible at it.
Also, I'm rubbish at baking, I'm a brilliant book if I say so myself, but can't bake at all.

Staywithmemyblood · 04/03/2020 23:18

Things I am shit at include:

Any kind of hair styling
Multi storey car parks 😱
Keeping house plants alive
Sticking to a shopping list

I'm very good at procrastinating, faffing on mumsnet and 'tidying' by shoving crap in random places though Grin

ipswichwitch · 04/03/2020 23:18

Eyeliner. Every time it ends up with a gap between the eyeliner and my eyelashes which looks ridiculous. I’ve tried loads of YouTube tutorials and I still can’t do it. Wouldn’t care but I’m a good artist and great with calligraphy so you’d think I could master a bit of eyeliner, but no.

toffeeghirl · 04/03/2020 23:23

Oh and swimming. Didn't learn until my early 20s. Didn't go the baths for years afterwards until I had my dc. Almost drowned in a kiddies pool on holiday. Slight exaggeration, but I did literally just sink to the bottom and panicked. Was under for probably a few seconds but it's me off ever attempting to swim again. I've sat next to the pool on holiday, even in a private villa, and been to frightened.

I can, however, cook any type of egg and change a duvet cover.

MovingBriskyOn · 04/03/2020 23:28

Life

Staywithmemyblood · 04/03/2020 23:30

Just read your list @toffeeghirl and realised I'm crap at all of these too! Hope you don't feel so bad now. Who wants to be perfect anyway? 😂

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 04/03/2020 23:30

I can't do my hair or make up in a mirror, I can't get the coordination right and get confused. I have to do it without looking at myself!

I also cannot for the life of me empty the condenser tray in my tumble dryer - I can't work out how to get it out of the machine so DS has to do it Blush

FleetwoodMacMummy · 04/03/2020 23:32

Painting my nails
Cooking/ flipping an omelette (ends up a scrambled mess)
French plaits
Keeping on top of housework
Running

Chlam0 · 04/03/2020 23:33

I’m so shit at reverse parking that the police once stopped me while I was trying to park and breathalysed me. I was making such a hash of it that they thought I was hammered. I was stone cold sober but embarrassed as hell.

TooGood2BeTrue · 04/03/2020 23:35

Catching a ball
Dancing
Sewing
Hair & makeup
(anything that involves coordination)

Lynda07 · 05/03/2020 01:11

Housework.
