I'm in Liverpool.

I have lived all over and you can only get Sui Mais here (that I have for nd anyway.)No one else outside of Liverpool seems to have heard of them.

They are pork and prawn dumplings but bigger and better and not won tons.

Recently went to Cardiff and I had a corned beef and mash thing from the chippy that was a welsh thing. It definitely began with R but it was regional to that area I think. It was fabulous.

What do you have that you don't see anywhere else?

Grey peas and bacon - with real faggots

Egghead68 · 28/02/2020 22:39

You can (or at least could till recently) get London Cheesecakes and Tottenham cake in London branches of Gregg’s.

zeebeedee · 28/02/2020 22:41

Cool cool cool and Mustbethin, I came on the thread to say Henderson's. Someone else mentioned sainsbury's sell it in other places

Freeshavocado · 28/02/2020 22:46

Butter pie for me too, I work in Preston on a Monday just near Latham's in Fulwood so treat myself to one every few weeks

LaurieFairyCake · 28/02/2020 22:51

You can get London cheesecakes in my local Greggs in zone 3. It's very sweet.

PeakFlow · 28/02/2020 22:54

I love a really good buttery butter pie, delicious. Lots of bakeries skimp on the butter ☹️
I also love Manchester tarts.

PeakFlow · 28/02/2020 22:56

Forgot to mention and not local to me at all, but when I’m in Scotland I love a pineapple tart (I’ve bought them here from Waitrose, but they’re not as good.

Carrieonhappy · 28/02/2020 22:58

Square sausage and mortons rolls.

JenaWren · 28/02/2020 23:03

Potato Cakes - Cheshire. Used to make them with my Nan. Always takes me back to childhood.

Scunnnnnered · 28/02/2020 23:04

Plain bread and Scottish rolls. They are utter shit in England. Also, square sausage. I’ve travelled 200 miles for it before.

BoswellsBollocks · 28/02/2020 23:05

Butter buns.

I’m pretty sure you can only get them in Shropshire.
Never the same since Sidoli’s closed...

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 28/02/2020 23:06

A renal Bakewell pudding which is nothing like a Bakewell tart.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 28/02/2020 23:06

*real

Claphands · 28/02/2020 23:14

Yum! I used to eat those pineapple cream tarts in Birmingham years ago, never seen them since though. Same for scallops from the chippie-battered potato deep fried, does anywhere else do these?

Graphista · 28/02/2020 23:18

Pies made as follows:

Pastry is a hot water crust hand raised

Filled with macaroni cheese preferably made with good strong scottish cheddar

Topped either with more grated cheese or piped mashed potato and grated cheese.

Best served hot either as is or with either salad cream or baked beans.

“Hot rolls” are big where I am - crusty bread rolls (usually Morton’s) buttered and filled with your choice of:

Fried egg
Scrambled egg
Tattie scones
Black pudding
Square sausage
White pudding

I like a potato scone and fried egg one myself, eat around the yolk till you’re nearly done then bite through bursting the yolk onto the plate and mop up with roll - mmmm

Strawberry tarts - non Scots don’t understand as you can get other kinds elsewhere but the Scots ones are a whole other level of calories!

Buttery shortcrust pastry, confectioners cream (I think with more sugar than usual in it), whole fresh strawberries and then the unctuous teeth melting strawberry syrup - that Aulds now sell in bottles (I don’t think I could be trusted with one!)

Beachcomber1 · 28/02/2020 23:18

Spicebags

Northernsoullover · 28/02/2020 23:23

I didn't realise rissoles were regional? I live in Wales and love a rissole. Also Bara Brith is rather delicious with very salty butter spread on it.

PorpentinaScamander · 28/02/2020 23:23

Saveloys, london cheesecake and gypsy tart are all available here in Berkshire. So is lardy cake.

I can't think of anything that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Sparklingbells · 28/02/2020 23:25

@thequeenbeyondthewall Berrys Bakery on New Hall Lane in Preston do an excellent butter pie- got to get in there early though as they sell out quick!

Soontobe60 · 28/02/2020 23:40

Carrs pastie on a barm. Mmmmm

Mother87 · 28/02/2020 23:51

Superb Siu Mai/Har Gau/Lo Mai Kai in Manchester😋😋😋⛩

thetrinityisshite · 29/02/2020 00:15

@thesunhasgothishatontoday - has to be out a glass bottle too.

I'm quite sure I had a lasagne pie once.

I lived in Dundee for a time. Pie in a roll anyone? I must admit to eating macaroni cheese pie in a roll whilst pregnant Blush carbs on carbs on carbs!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/02/2020 01:07

Saveloys might be available in other places, but I've only seen a Saveloy Dip in South Tyneside - saveloys in a bap, which has been dipped in the juices they cook in, then topped with pease pudding, stuffing and mustard. Haven't had one in years, and god how I miss them.

Freeshavocado · 29/02/2020 07:43

@thetrinityisshite you just reminded me of another, a 'Wigan kebab' which is a pie in a barmcake preferably with loads of butter!

vampirethriller · 29/02/2020 07:56

You get sui mai in most dim sum places.
Here it's Yorkshire curd tarts and Henderson's Relish.
