I'm in Liverpool.

I have lived all over and you can only get Sui Mais here (that I have for nd anyway.)No one else outside of Liverpool seems to have heard of them.

They are pork and prawn dumplings but bigger and better and not won tons.

Recently went to Cardiff and I had a corned beef and mash thing from the chippy that was a welsh thing. It definitely began with R but it was regional to that area I think. It was fabulous.

What do you have that you don't see anywhere else?

Pie & Mash and saveloys. Tottenham cake, might be able to find it elsewhere but I can never find them in big bakeries, only my local bakers.

Ouchiehelpneeded · 28/02/2020 21:54

London cheesecake. Hard to find even in London. Totally delicious.

Fionplease · 28/02/2020 21:56

Pattie ... only ever found them in Orkney. So good!

rslsys · 28/02/2020 22:00

Tomato Sausage and Potted Meat - only seem to be available in Nottinghamshire.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/02/2020 22:01

Butter pie from Deans on Blackpool Rd in Preston, or Potts in Lancaster. John Bull - basically a battered cottage pie. Never seen it anywhere but Lancaster/Morecambe.
My home food is scouse Grin
Grasmere gingerbread mmm! The fudge from the sweet shop in Bowness.

ALadyofLetters · 28/02/2020 22:03

Manchester tart. Potato dabs. Butter pie.

thesunhasgothishatontoday · 28/02/2020 22:05

Ah @dreamersandwishers I'm salivating and feeling homesick. Love a buttery-toasted a bit with butter and marmalade

wowfudge · 28/02/2020 22:06

Just read about London Cheesecake and thought of Manchester tart - takes me right back to school dinners in the 70s.

thesunhasgothishatontoday · 28/02/2020 22:07

@thetrinityisshite if a square sausage in a Morton's roll didnae cure your hangover you needed A&E. with urn bru of course!

FlamingoAndJohn · 28/02/2020 22:07

I live in the East and we strangely have a cafe that specialises in Staffordshire oatcakes.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/02/2020 22:12

This thread is making me hungry, and yes Manchester tart, school dinners 1970's style

tillytoodles1 · 28/02/2020 22:12

Being a Liverpool girl, it's Scouse and red cabbage. My dad made the best Scouse I've ever had, plus barley soup with neck of lamb, and pea soup made from the water that you boiled a bacon joint in.

Chocolate50 · 28/02/2020 22:16

Mudgley cider. Somerset. It's local & tastes like shit.

Chocolate50 · 28/02/2020 22:17

...but gets people very pissed.

winniethekid · 28/02/2020 22:17

I've had sui mais in the midlands, London and Yorkshire in the 1980s-now.

SpanielPlusToddler · 28/02/2020 22:18

Came on to say butteries, skirlie and Cullen skink, but didn’t realise macaroni pies were regional. I thought you could get them everywhere!

strawberrylipgloss · 28/02/2020 22:18

Siu Mai is available in London China Town restaurants (especially for Dim Sum) although I find that they aren't as famous as gyoza (the Wagamama effect?)
Siu Mai are very mainstream in Japan

thequeenbeyondthewall · 28/02/2020 22:23

I'm astounded at the Sui mais.

My friends just must not know any good chippies.

Lardy cakes, a bit like square Chelsea buns but made with lard and golden syrup. They're lush, Somerset/ Wiltshire.

ScorchioScorchio · 28/02/2020 22:28

My mum posts me butteries and brings them with her whenever she visits!

Gulsink · 28/02/2020 22:31

You can buy Henderson's relish in our local Sainsbury's (Surrey). We've got 3 bottles in our cupboard because northern in-laws keep giving us bottles but we don't use it because it's shit. It's like watered down Worcestershire sauce.

IAmFleshIAmBone · 28/02/2020 22:32

Haggis supper

jmh740 · 28/02/2020 22:34

Also from Blackburn I came on to say butter pie, also not sure if it's a local thing but red salt on your chips from the pizza shop.

YappityYapYap · 28/02/2020 22:37

Butteries or some people call them rowies, in Aberdeen. Best thing ever!

Egghead68 · 28/02/2020 22:37
