Foods you can only get in your region/city

I'm in Liverpool.

I have lived all over and you can only get Sui Mais here (that I have for nd anyway.)No one else outside of Liverpool seems to have heard of them.

They are pork and prawn dumplings but bigger and better and not won tons.

Recently went to Cardiff and I had a corned beef and mash thing from the chippy that was a welsh thing. It definitely began with R but it was regional to that area I think. It was fabulous.

What do you have that you don't see anywhere else?

Kitten

What are lemon tops?

I've got friends from All over. None of them had ever head of Sui mais!

It must just be my friends. I've never been able to get them when I've lived outside of Liverpool. Are they called something else?

Staffordshire oatcakes! Best with bacon. Reminds me of my grandmother who made her own.

Clymene · 28/02/2020 20:50

Gypsy tarts. Kentish tart made with evaporated milk. It's lush and I don't think you can buy it anywhere else

FelicityBeedle · 28/02/2020 20:52

Stotties are the best bread, moved west and have to make my own now, not the same

thequeenbeyondthewall · 28/02/2020 20:52

Beetroot with scouse or beetroot with red cabbage. Proper gorge.

Yeah shu mai is pretty common. At least in medium to large sized cities. You can buy them in your freezer section, especially in Asian markets.

hokolo · 28/02/2020 20:59

I came on to say Scouse! With beetroot. And crusty bread with loads of salty butter 🤤

Ihatesundays · 28/02/2020 21:05

Parmos and lemon tops, my people are here...

Lemon top is a soft whip ice cream with a bright yellow lemon ‘sorbet’ on top. Yum

nsav · 28/02/2020 21:14

Stovies, Moffat Toffee, Lockerbie cheese, clootie dumpling, Macaroni pies 🥧

MillicentMartha · 28/02/2020 21:16

Dripper, like a lardy cake, but made with dripping rather than lard. God, sugary deliciousness but not good for my diet. From Gloucestershire.

isabellerossignol · 28/02/2020 21:17

Soda farls. A good one is bread heaven. A bad one is so heavy you could use it to build a house. I make amazing ones, not that I'm boasting or anything. Grin
