It turns out that MNHQ don't understand the difference between facts and opinions, and I can't respectfully challenge opinions that are solidly contradicted by science...so time to go our seperate ways.

It would be nice of there was a place on the internet for facts, but I suspect if there ever was its now gone for ever.

OP posts:

So what’s everyone having in their pancakes tonight? Personally I love the simple lemon and sugar but the kids love tuna and melted cheese.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 25/02/2020 07:36

im all about banana and chocolate sauce on mine

Wishimaywishimight · 25/02/2020 07:41

Healthy fruit & tons of not so healthy whipped cream - can't wait!

SoupDragon · 25/02/2020 07:48

Presumably MN just gave you a ticking off for the way you presents your facts and because you didn't "respectfully challenge" them at all...?

Oblomov20 · 25/02/2020 07:51

Oh come on. There's a flouncer and a proper flouncer.

Sometimes even MNHQ makes questionable decisions.

I was banned recently. For a week. First time ever. I didn't think what I wrote was that bad. Ok actually it wasn't particularly nice. The OP may well have been vulnerable. I didn't think she was. I thought she was just dim, which really irritated me. I honestly wondered if she was a non native English speaker, from a country where women are very suppressed? whose culture and nature was to never speak up/ never question a man or never question anything they were told to do? I certainly phrased that badly, admittedly.

But that wasn't the point. Some of the things that were said to me in emails were odd, very peculiar. MNHQ struck me as having changed.

We've had lots and lots of banning recently and also leaving of posters who have been here for a very long time.

And something feels off. Like it is deliberate cull?

I will/should go back and have another look at those emails. Because I wasn't happy with how it was left.

Point is, mnhq don't always get it right!

KatherineJaneway · 25/02/2020 08:09

ThanosSavedMe Hadn't planned on making any but the thought of cheesy pancakes does sound tempting.

Lweji · 25/02/2020 08:11

As far as I can tell, the OP got very upset for being deleted once for insulting people.
"Got in trouble for point out that idiots were saying idiotic things about viruses"

Clearly the OP was being what they most decry of pps for not knowing that a direct personal attack would be deleted.

There are reasons to get upset, but if people say flu and cold without knowing exactly which one it is is the least of the issues. Particularly because people have to give names to illnesses. Common speak is cold is when symptoms are milder and flu when you're bed ridden. It doesn't really matter at all in every day situations.

You wouldn't last 5 min with flat earthers.

Hmmm! Is this flouncing or, under the circumstances, self-isolating?

QueenOfOversharing · 25/02/2020 08:21

I'm sorry, what??? 😱

Whatsbrownandsticky · 25/02/2020 08:57

@Likethebattle I'm stealing that Heathrow comeback.

FredaFrogspawn · 25/02/2020 08:58

Funny thread! Flounced posted a very informative post about the difference between flu and colds, with fabulous photos of pretty viruses. So many people kept coming back with same crap - it really was a cash the cheque moment.

But op - don’t get so angry. It’s not good for you. Have a break, change your name and come back. Your initial post was really useful - many people would have learnt something from it - those who didn’t - meh - not worth getting upset about.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2020 08:59

I think the Heathrow/airport thing is going to be the new 'cancel the cheque' it was said multiple times on another thread where someone said they were leaving last week.

LowbrowVictoriana · 25/02/2020 09:06

There was no problem with el flouncer’s first post though, Freda it was, indeed, very informative; it was the abusive, personal attackish post after that that was deleted. Nothing to do with facts vs opinions and everything to do with nastiness, talk etiquette and breaching guidelines.
I hope she finds a robust enough forum for her requirements, though I expect most will have similar such restrictions on posting.

FredaFrogspawn · 25/02/2020 09:21

Never saw the follow up (it was deleted and I’m sure, deservedly). The flounced wrote other posts showing her extreme annoyance. I get it’s frustrating but really not worth losing one’s hairnet over.

But no-one acknowledged her great first post which had obviously taken time and trouble to write and illustrate. I wanted her to know I thought it very useful. Don’t like abusive postings though as a rule.

Likethebattle · 25/02/2020 12:16

I wondered where I first saw the Heathrow thing. It was a while before this though I think it was Facebook where people like to announce they are leaving groups etc.

RibenaMonsoon · 25/02/2020 12:22

My son has a virus. He's vomiting and high temperature.
Poor little thing. I'm going to make him cheesecake when he feels better. He loves cheesecake.

Anyway, bye. Say hello to the netmum crew for us.
Did you do the hair flip? It doesn't count if you don't do a hair flip.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 25/02/2020 12:23

TBF that flu thread is full of stupid comments!

Oblomov20 · 25/02/2020 13:15

Some of you clearly have the patience of a saint. Haven't you ever been riled on a Mumsnet thread? especially by people who are just keep posting the same thing? I often get absolutely furious with some peoples absolute stupidity. I then need to step away from the threads, before posting in anger, because people are just so stupid. generally.

I actually have a bit of sympathy with OP!

Oblomov20 · 25/02/2020 13:21

I am very weird in my empathy and patience with other posters. I have absolute empathy when someone's .......handbag gets stolen between Belfast and somewhere in Spain (I think ) ; or someone does something stupid (which I myself do from time to time)

and yet other people who just can't seem to help themselves and do the same stupid things again and again and again?

or won't listen to facts and figures : when someone sits them down and says : no here is the truth /link to coronavirus .....is not this, it's not that, it's only this ..... and people THEN still go to on and on ... and you like odfod - for gods sake you people are so stupid!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 25/02/2020 13:23

I stay away from the Coronavirus threads now because of this exact reason. It annoys me and its really hard to use logic against illogical arguments.

Probably wouldnt have a strop and leave MN about it though.....

theoriginalmadambee · 25/02/2020 13:24

Deep breaths @Oblomov20 Smile

Oblomov20 · 25/02/2020 13:36

Didn't mean corona specifically.

I could have been referring to anything.

1/2 the worlds population are dimwits!

Grin
BoreOfWhabylon · 25/02/2020 13:54

Ah, come on M3lon, you were right and you and others posted good information on that thread, yet still idiots kept leaping in with "Wouldn't be able to pick up a £(various numbers) note if it was flu".

Not surprised you're pissed off but just step back for a bit, eh? No need to burn your bridges Flowers
