All overrated dreary whiny dirge, and VERY average singers. Yet they sell phenomenal amounts of records/music/downloads/streaming...
WHY??? 
There is NO-ONE now, like Whitney, Celine, Cher, Mariah,Tina Turner, George Michael, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Pat Benatar, Patti Smith, Michael Jackson, etc etc.... Even average singers with just OK or 'quite good' voices like Madonna, Kim Wilde, Debbie Harry, Toyah Wilcox, Olivia Newton John etc.... were all good/original/had great tunes.
Many bands had good lead vocals... Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Depeche Mode, and all the rock/metal bands too.. male AND female, like Heart, Bon Jovi, Motorhead, Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath, Girlschool, AC/DC. All great musicians and singers, and great songs. WTF happened?
The pop charts/pop stars are mostly fucking shit now. Very few really good amazing acts.
Also 30-40 years ago +, you had a dozen or more different types of music in the charts at once... reggae, country, easy listening, gospel, pop, metal, rock, hip-hop, soul, R & B, jazz, novelty songs, new romantic, punk....
Now loads of songs sound the same, most female singers sound the same, and most MALE singers sound the same... all whiny, drony, breathy, and with very little vocal range.
And there is rarely more than 2 or 3 genres of music in the chart. Also, you also almost always have to be under 25 to be accepted into the music industry as a newbie. The younger the better.
Many singers were around 30 when they made it some 30-40 plus years ago. And they often had 2 or 3 albums out before they made it big.
These days, an act is dropped by the record company if they don't have their first hit at number one!
