Possessions sliding onto the floor when braking

Any tips?

I've just a car with leather seats and everything on the passenger seat slides off into the footwell practically every time I brake. Tiresome!

Put your bag in the footwell.

I’ve got a car with leather seats and that doesn’t happen when I brake, how hard are you braking?

DenimDrift · 22/02/2020 16:49

dont brake so hard.....or store the items in the footwell at start of journey!!

surely?

endofthelinefinally · 22/02/2020 16:51

Either a bag or basket in the footwell, or put everything in a large bag with a strap/ handle and fasten the seatbelt through it.

LooseGoose29 · 22/02/2020 16:54

You should always strap stuff in or put it in the boot. Loose items can become extremely dangerous in a crash.

SkaLaLand · 22/02/2020 16:55

springydaff · 22/02/2020 21:22

Alright, keep your hair on.

It's a new (to me) and it's big and powerful, I'm taking a while to get used to it.

OK, slight exaggeration to say whenever I brake, but I'm braking more than usual I suppose. Maybe I always drive like that. Whatevs. I'm learning to drive sedately. Taking a while.

Is the only solution really to put things in a bag and strap it in?? Seems quite a faff.

I can't reach the footwell. I'm little, the car is big.

Why did I buy it? Because I LIKE IT.

If things are flying off the seat, you're braking too hard. Slow down a bit and plan ahead to avoid sharp braking.

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2020 21:29

There are a lot of car seat organiser type things (car tidies) on amazon with various Velcro/strap/hook arrangements. You’ll be able to find something I’ll bet.

springydaff · 22/02/2020 21:30

Thank you, Heron! 👍

You asked a question. People answered.

So like your car. Get used to it. Assuming you aren't too little to drive it. And if you are too little, then get a smaller car.

Toria70 · 22/02/2020 21:32

DH has got leather seats in his car, and as I'm not used to driving it often, I do the same. I put the seatbelt strap round my handbag and that seems to help.

MemorialBeach · 22/02/2020 21:35

If you can't reach the footwell, can you just put it there and take it out via the passenger door?

springydaff · 22/02/2020 21:52

Honestly, is everywhere on MN becoming tainted by the AIBU nastiness?

I'm thinking about getting some kind of basket thing which I sweabekt in and can fling in the back of I have a passenger. A basket isn't really in keeping with the swish car but there we go. I'll think on it.

Thanks for your suggestions 💐

Why do you need to reach the footwell?

PenelopeFlintstone · 22/02/2020 22:00

To pick the bag back up again when she gets out if the car?

FlamingoAndJohn · 22/02/2020 22:00

You really shouldn’t have your handbag on the passenger seat. Anyone could reach in and take it. Put it in the footwell, you don’t need to reach it when you’re driving anyway.

PenelopeFlintstone · 22/02/2020 22:00

Ohdearieme1987 · 22/02/2020 22:02

What car do you have? ;)

This doesn’t happen where I live? Is it common where you live, FlamingoandJohn??

LonginesPrime · 22/02/2020 22:04

What possessions?

Don't you need them in a bag when you get out anyway?

I second the car organiser idea if there aren't built-in compartments that you just haven't discovered yet.

Pedallleur · 22/02/2020 22:05

The laws of physics can't be beaten. Slow down gradually, those items slow down. Brake sharply and the car stops but the items continue travelling at speed. This is why you have a seatbelt.

purrswhileheeats · 22/02/2020 22:12

I have the same problem, pisses me right off. The deck on my yacht also gets too slippery Sad

LonginesPrime · 22/02/2020 22:21

Ah, purrs, you'll want one of those yacht tidies, then.
