Bob Dylan. My dad is obsessed, saw him lots in the early days. He, and I will be gutted when he dies.

Paul Wellor, same reason but for my partner

MeatLoaf. Love him, his music. I’ll be so sad when he dies..

David Attenborough and The Queen. It will feel like the world has shifted a bit on is axis when they go. Things won't ever by quite the same again.

Do people actually think like this about people they don't know? I'm honestly quite surprised.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2020 12:05

Of course they think like this. These people are world famous and influential. Once they're no longer in the world their influence won't be there either, so the world will change.

This leads me on to thinking about a number of powerful people whose influence I'd be delighted to see vanish from the world, but maybe that's best for another thread.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/02/2020 12:05

But can you not understand that for some people, these musicians or actors etc have been part of their life for decades. And for that person to be no more, creating no more of their particular art, will affect people? It certainly will me.
Exactly. Listening to Ziggy Stardust era Bowie I am transported back to being 17, when he died it reminded me how long ago that was and, although, I can listen to the music anytime, somehow a little bit of my past was gone too. It doesn't have to be mawkish or sentimental just an acknowledgement of how important someone was in your life even if you did not know them personally. .

The Queen's death will also be a turning point for different reasons which other people have described. She has been Queen for the whole of my life, it will be the end of an era and, although I won't be crying in the street or standing in the rain to watch the funeral I will pause to reflect.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/02/2020 12:06

David Attenborough.
David Jason.
The Queen.

pinboard · 20/02/2020 12:06

None - I don't know any of them!

It will be 'unsettling' when the Queen dies as she has been a constant presence for so long. There will be endless blathering in the media (re a person who has had a pretty privileged life) but it'll be a big change.

Is the Random Bob a Bob of the Geldof variety?

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/02/2020 12:09

My husband will be hard hit by the death of any surviving member of Pink Floyd. I was upset by the death of Syd Barrett - what a waste of such a beautiful, talented man.

Lweji · 20/02/2020 12:09

Which famous people are you dreading dying..
ineedanotherholiday · 20/02/2020 12:10

David Jason :(

PuppyMonkey · 20/02/2020 12:15

I don’t lie awake dreading it or anything but I will be very sad if and when Stevie Wonder goes.

FieldOfFlameAndHeather · 20/02/2020 12:18

Have been in love with this guy since 1982 when I was 12, I cannot imagine him ever not being around .. Mark King Level 42, but he is still relatively young

He was interviewed on Radio 2 the other day, he sounds like such a nice, down to earth bloke.

bellabelly · 20/02/2020 12:23

Bob Mortimer?

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/02/2020 12:24

Bob Mortimer?
I would be sad if he died. He's one of the funniest people ever.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2020 12:27

Yes, poor Syd. He was a beautiful young man and so talented.

Mrskeats · 20/02/2020 12:28

Alan Bennett. I love his work.

Vinorosso74 · 20/02/2020 12:30

I agree with David Attenborough. He is known (not personally obviously) and respected by people of all generations.
I dread the queen because it will be all over the news for weeks on end with random people in the street crying as if they knew her personally.
When musicians who I grew up listening to die that will be weird as I'll realise I'm old.

Elphame · 20/02/2020 12:35

To be honest none - we are all going to die at some point.

Being famous isn't going to change that. No famous person is important enough for me to dread their death or to be honest to spare more than a "oh x is ead. How sad" before carrying on with my own life.

Cocolapew · 20/02/2020 12:35

Debbie Harry
Neil Diamond

HollowTalk · 20/02/2020 12:36

What is it with David Jason on here? I never even think of the guy.

bluebell34567 · 20/02/2020 12:37

tom jones, please never die. he still sings so nice, i am so mesmerized when i listen to him. he is 1 in a trillion. world would be so dull without him. Sad. even thinking about is so sad.

Rainbowunicat · 20/02/2020 12:38

The thing is, when an artist dies you can still enjoy their work. I have enjoyed Bob Marley's music all my life, yet he died before I was born. His absence from the world does not affect me in any way!

The only one I get the occasional pang of sadness about is Alan Rickman. Don't know why, really.

I do have to ask, though, why will Ruth Nader Ginsberg's death change the world? I had to Google her, and can't see how her death would change things!

Abraid2 · 20/02/2020 12:40

The Queen because it will be the end of something that has provided stability for such a long time and a lot of people don't seem to realise how much it will affect the country, which scares me. It's not about being a royalist or not. I think we will feel adrift, very vulnerable at a time when we have cast ourselves off from the EU and the world is full of madmen, climate change, new diseases, etc.

Not really bothered by the possible demise of any other famous people. I think if you've experienced the death of a parent or husband or child or very close friend, these don't register in the same way. Unless there's something particularly tragic and untimely about the death.

Shinesweetfreedom · 20/02/2020 12:40

Another one here for David Attenborough.

It will be massive when the Queen goes.
To be honest I wonder about Prince Philip as he always looks so I’ll to me

PeterPanGoesWrong · 20/02/2020 12:43

The Queen or prince Phillip. They have always been there and one without the other is like one shoe. Too sad to think about.

Footle · 20/02/2020 12:46

@RethpoDad, is that a joke? Bob Marley has been gone since 1981. RIP.

ColourMyDreams · 20/02/2020 12:46

The queen or prince Phillip.
Only due to the media going into overdrive with it.
