Teen parents - what are you doing today?

I’ve got DD 15 and DS 13 both of whom are still asleep at the moment. I’d really like to do something with them today but I just don’t know what. I am reminiscing about how much easier it was to please them both when they were younger - swimming/park/soft play etc. The only thing I can think of is the cinema. Any other ideas?

bowling?? ice skating? escape room?

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 17/02/2020 09:51

The only thing I can think of that would get my two that age out the door would be either a shopping trip (with promise of clothes) or Alton towers or suchlike! Imo teenagers don’t like doing much at all, especially in the holidays!
Ask them if there’s anything they fancy doing?

Prom dress shopping in Liverpool 😐

Oo escape room is a good idea, thanks mememe.
Shegotbettedaviseyes - yes, shopping would do it! Stock answer when asked what they want to do is ‘I dunno’ ...

I’m sure your ds 13 would love to do that OP 😂

Canshopwillshop · 17/02/2020 09:56

@scribblygum - good luck! That will be me next year.

We've done shopping this morning. Really can't think of anything to do tomorrow so dd, who's nearly 13, has decided PJ day and staying on the sofa watching films.
We were just saying this morning it was so much easier when she was younger.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 17/02/2020 15:12

Food usually does it, you might not get a whole days entertainment from it but you get a couple of hours with them.
Get them to have a clear out and teach them to eBay. They keep the profits.
Are they sporty? Arty?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 17/02/2020 15:13

Lost the first sentence that said take them out for lunch!

elephantoverthehill · 17/02/2020 15:14

Mine are just off with their mates today.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/02/2020 15:17

What about setting them a challenge to make dinner, and take them shopping for ingredients?
Too late for today, but maybe another day in the week?

strawberrylipgloss · 17/02/2020 15:19

Food related activity is the easiest thing for me.
We either go out and chat or I cook/bake with one of them. Today Ds helped me cook garlic dough balls to go with our lasagne later. Dd baked an Oreo cheesecake yesterday.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 17/02/2020 15:20

Waiting on teen daughter as she studies! Missing the days when we could go out for the day without stressing that she should be studying.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/02/2020 15:22

I miss this, my teen moved out last summer.

BG2015 · 17/02/2020 15:29

My DS is 16. He's not interested in doing anything with me now.

If I offered to take him shopping he'd go but other than that he's not bothered about doing anything.

It's all about his mates. He spends all of his time with them.

TrickyKid · 17/02/2020 15:32

They've gone out with mates

itsgettingweird · 17/02/2020 15:41

Not a lot and enjoying it!

But me and ds(15) left home at 6.30am in midst of Dennis yesterday for a swim meet and got home at 6.30pm after a hairy trip home through half flooded roads.

We have had a lunch of wraps etc. Practised some of his gcse drama, he's done some more revision and he has 2 hours of swim training later.

Actually writing that it doesn't seem like we aren't doing anything. But compared to days with school, work and training and weekends of meets when we have school etc the next day it certainly seems like it Grin

nachthexe · 17/02/2020 15:45

One has a full day of training (athlete) so we dropped her off at 7.30. One is in bed because he was out with his friends last night. One doesn’t get home until Wednesday as she’s helping to run a girl guides thing.
I’m largely irrelevant except for the taxi service.

mbosnz · 17/02/2020 15:46

Mine are studying. One of them, after having cleaned her room. . .

I'm wondering. Is it something she's done, or is it something she wants?

YesThisIsMe · 17/02/2020 15:47

Hygienist, hairdressers and optician today Grin

NumberMonkey · 17/02/2020 15:48

We went to the dentist and then Tesco to choose tea for the rest of the week. Rock and Roll!

milliefiori · 17/02/2020 15:48

Dragged mine out for a walk around a local lake this morning. Then did some cooking with them at lunch time. Now they are revising and I've been working - just taking a tea break now.

Wolfcub · 17/02/2020 15:50

Today was shopping. One shop for him and one for me in turn plus lunch. To be fair neither of us really like shopping. We had a pretty good day though

Pipandmum · 17/02/2020 15:52

I have a 14 and 16 year old. They do not share the same half term. But last week when my daughter was off we did the cinema, out to lunch another day and day trip to London. She was meant to go on a day trip with friends but the weather ruined that. The rest of the time she entertained herself.
My son is off this week. He'll work his normal couple days but other than that he will occupy himself- gym, girlfriend etc.
Other than the lunch I don't think I'd get them to do anything else together. They pretty much do their own thing most of the time.
