If you had 10 days to travel solo anywhere in the world

Where would you go?

Ex-H has announced he will be taking the DC's away next January for 10 days.

So it got me thinking about what I could do with 10 days and the ability to go anywhere.I was thinking I would do either Cambodia or Malaysia.

Unfortunately I will actually be at work, but a girl can dream!

Norway. I’d just set off driving, exploring fjords and mountains, and see where the mood took me.

msmith501 · 10/02/2020 17:17

Seychelles every time

LettyFisher · 10/02/2020 17:29

Iran*

I did have 10 days free and booked Iran. Unfortunately my exh then changed his mind and I had to cancel the holiday.

*war permitting

HaudMaDug · 10/02/2020 18:28

Going west I fancy Peru, Chile and Argentina or east I'd like to experience Uzbekistan,Turkmenistan or any of the other 'Stans'.
No idea what any are like for solo female travellers though.

GoldenMarigolds · 10/02/2020 18:31

Get an interrail pass First Class. Explore the unexplored Europe.

That's me next year all going well. Sleeper cabins, foie gras, the works. Rail travel is just so nice in comparison to air travel IMO.

I've done all the long hauls I ever want to do now, but some parts of Europe sound very mysterious and interesting. The train track less travelled!

Drivemybluecar · 10/02/2020 18:33

The top thing on my bucket list is Hawaii. Sigh. I would go there in a heartbeat.

HerRoyalNotness · 10/02/2020 18:34

Patagonia hiking

Gonegrey31 · 10/02/2020 18:37

Another one saying Patagonia. Stay at the Explorer hotel near the Torres del Paine area.

TravellingSpoon · 10/02/2020 18:38

Oh wow, Iran would be amazing.

Would also quite fancy Jordan and Petra.

Honestly, solo? No where. I enjoy my own company definitely and enjoy my weekends when the children are with my ex, however in my opinion - holidays are pointless unless your sharing them with family, someone you love and / or friends.

My ideal 10 day holiday though? Something active to start, maybe 4 day running holiday in Italy, followed by 6 days in gorgeous beach resort.

A tour of Japan would be my next choice

Bringringbring · 10/02/2020 18:42

Oh wow, Iran would be amazing.

What elements particularly appeal?

TheGirlFromStoryville · 10/02/2020 18:42

Galapagos Islands. I cried when it was reported that Lonesome George had died.

Would also love to visit Venezuela to see Angel Falls.

I'm trying to get DH to agree to a tour of South America for my 50th in a few years time.

listsandbudgets · 10/02/2020 18:43

Normally I'd have said China but in the circumstances maybe not.

So I think the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithunia) Stunning scenery , lots of history and plenty of variety

babbi · 10/02/2020 18:47

Patagonia 👌🏻
@Drivemybluecar ... re Hawaii ... I’ve travelled extensively and TBH Hawaii was the biggest disappointment ever ... we left early and headed to LA ..

I’d describe Honolulu as Benidorm @ 20 times the airfare ....

BikeRunSki · 10/02/2020 18:48

Interailing in Eastern Europe.

YgritteSnow · 10/02/2020 18:48

Alaska.

TravellingSpoon · 10/02/2020 18:51

What elements particularly appeal

The mosques at Isfahan or Shiraz, the beaches and ecosystems, the ruins, the culture and food, the people.

babybythesea · 10/02/2020 18:51

I love wildlife watching and worked with animals for 10 years. I’d love to see some of the animals I worked with in the wild. Or the chance to see some other iconic wildlife.
Torn between my top 3.
going to Africa, possibly Tanzania or Uganda, must include gorilla watching.
Going to Sumatra, to see orangutans.
Going to Costa Rica and the Galapagos.

I think, on balance, I’d do the last one.

Butterymuffin · 10/02/2020 18:52

Ooh @GoldenMarigolds where did you book that? I would love a European rail trip. I was going to say I would pick 2 or maybe 3 European cities to do. Maybe Florence, Vienna, Barcelona, some combination of those.

pinkmagic1 · 10/02/2020 18:56

I would love to go to India and do the golden triangle or a riding holiday to Mongolia.

Bigsighall · 10/02/2020 19:01

I agree, Hawaii was a big disappointment!

GoldenMarigolds · 10/02/2020 19:01

Just go to the Interail website and take it from there. You can do as much or as little as suits your time off. I did it as a poor student back in the day, but am now going to go luxury aaahh great!

Having great fun mapping out the destinations. That will probably take a while!

Seat 61.com is also a terrific source for train travel anywhere.

I would go to New Orleans, soak up the nightlife, do a walking food tour of the French quarter and a Cajun/Creole cooking course.

zafferana · 10/02/2020 19:22

With 10 days in January I'd go to the Caribbean Smile

supercee · 10/02/2020 19:31

'holidays are pointless unless your sharing them with family, someone you love and / or friends.'

Absolutely beg to differ! I travel solo loads and have been away with friends/family and some of my most enjoyable trips have been alone. Nothing pointless about them, quite the opposite.

Also a big rail travel fan and travelled around France a few years back by train for a few weeks. Highly recommend it. I'd probably go this route again and explore more of Europe.
