If you had 10 days to travel solo anywhere in the world

Where would you go?

Ex-H has announced he will be taking the DC's away next January for 10 days.

So it got me thinking about what I could do with 10 days and the ability to go anywhere.I was thinking I would do either Cambodia or Malaysia.

Unfortunately I will actually be at work, but a girl can dream!

Peru - I travelled solo there last year for a couple of weeks and loved it. Visited the beautiful city of Cusco, Machu Picchu & stayed in the Amazon jungle, cut off from the world for 4 days. It was amazing Smile

We’d need a pretty penny @TheThing but it would be so amazing —when— —Trump— —is— —gone—

Thisisthelaststraw · 10/02/2020 22:01

Aw, strikethrough doesn’t work on iphone Confused

drspouse · 10/02/2020 22:04

I would love to see Petra.

10 days on my own in January, definitely the Caribbean. I’d do nothing other than relax on a beach and read. I’d probably go all inclusive as well and basically do nothing for 10 days.

10 days isn't long to travel around much; I'd go back to Laos if I had longer, and add on Vietnam, and I'd take my husband). But 10 days to myself would be a tropical beach somewhere - turquoise sea, white sand and palm trees. Local restaurants, colourful cocktails and interesting markets to mooch around, and a handful of books. Bliss!

New Zealand.

@Thisisthelaststraw.
Lovely! That'd do me nicely.

Argentina and Uruguay, have a few days at the hot springs in Salto then back to BA.

If it wasn't January then maybe a couple of UK cities. Or maybe attempt to trace my Irish ancestry.

I'd do a mini tour of Europe with a focus on art galleries - probably Florence, Madrid and Amsterdam.

averythinline · 11/02/2020 07:32

I would urge you to try and and a bit of break - even if its just an extended weekend.... if a short trip I would go back to Venice I have been but with DH/DS so insufficient nurdling :)
if the full 10
Japan
Vietnam
although it wuld be hard as DH/DC want to go there as well so would feel guilty so either Sth Africa to catch up with old friends or Carribean as they hate beaches!

TravellingSpoon · 11/02/2020 07:38

Yes, I am thinking about seeing if ai can swing it so that the off duty gives me three days off together and I go somewhere cheap then, probably easten Europe, somewhere like Poland or Estonia, although I have always wanted to go to Helsinki.

I have been to Japan and it was amazing. We only had 8 days so I know I can handle the jetlag for a shorter long haul trip.

Don’t go to Helsinki. It’s really boring! Although what you could do is go to Tallinn, lovely city, and take a day trip to Helsinki on the ferry. It doesn’t take long. That way you tick off both.

BearSoFair · 11/02/2020 10:35

USA and Canada ice hockey tour. If all the schedules lined up I'd love to see home games for Nashville, Philadelphia, New York Rangers, Toronto, Winnipeg, Anaheim, and Las Vegas.

Fenlandmountainrescue · 11/02/2020 11:11

A walking holiday on the south coast. I have my wellies and thermals for typical British weather.

BrimfulofSasha · 11/02/2020 14:07

at the moment Costa Rica is high on our list.

We have a few Europe trips planned this year though.
We hiked in Slovenia last summer and it is so far one of my favourite countries so far (out of 30ish countries visited)

midsomermurderess · 11/02/2020 14:53

Japan, although it would be a bit hit and run. As to Helsinki being boring, à chacun son goût. I had a very enjoyable few days there, the architecture is beautiful and so is the setting. It's an elegant and cool city. I much preferred it to Stockholm which I visited on the same holiday. As well as visiting the city you could have a trip to the Aland Islands.

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 11/02/2020 15:42

Is go back to India. There’s so much of it that I haven’t explored yet.

SunshineDays2019 · 11/02/2020 15:59

New England definitely. I hope to get there one day.

MinnieMountain · 11/02/2020 16:12

If we're talking any time of year:

  • Island hopping in Greece. I'd swim lots.
  • Luxury interrailing around Europe sounds fantastic. I'd get the sleeper train from Austria to Hungary as part of it.
  • Rajasthan and a particular hill station in the Himalayas, so I could see where my Granny grew up.

Train fans- have you read Paul Theroux's train travel books?
