If you had 10 days to travel solo anywhere in the world

Where would you go?

Ex-H has announced he will be taking the DC's away next January for 10 days.

So it got me thinking about what I could do with 10 days and the ability to go anywhere.I was thinking I would do either Cambodia or Malaysia.

Unfortunately I will actually be at work, but a girl can dream!

Well said supercee

Bringringbring · 10/02/2020 19:41

@supercee
When you quoted me, you missed out the preceding words “in my opinion”

Bringringbring · 10/02/2020 19:42

I don’t think they are “pointless” per se!

stormsurfer · 10/02/2020 19:47

Vietnam
Cambodia
Jordan

Fly into Copenhagen, Denmark then travel to Sweden and on to Norway (all by train/bus) and fly home from Bergen (if you enjoy snowy weather as it's January)

stormsurfer · 10/02/2020 19:49

Japan - but not in January

supercee · 10/02/2020 19:50

Well everyone who posts something on here is their opinion. Including the precise words in my quote changes nothing.

sonjadog · 10/02/2020 19:53

I think for ten days I would go interrailing, or do a road trip down the east coast of America. I wouldn't go anywhere more long haul as I would waste too much time traveling and dealing with jet lag.

helpfulperson · 10/02/2020 20:00

I would go to my favourite hotel in Switzerland and sit on the balcony (well wrapped up), read a book and watch the mountains.

The Glacier Express is on my list and I shall do what you say on my day off roaming around!

stormsurfer · 10/02/2020 21:16

I agree, Honolulu was very disappointing, but other parts of Hawaii are wonderful.

Lifeoverhaul · 10/02/2020 21:30

Lovely how my holidays are deemed pointless as I don't have anyone to share them with.
No one to go with so do I just never leave my home town, never travel and never go abroad?

Lifeoverhaul · 10/02/2020 21:31

Not everyone is lucky enough to have people to holiday with.

Muddlingalongalone · 10/02/2020 21:35

Vietnam, Cuba or Rio in January.
Canada at a different time if year but cold holiday doesn't appeal!

CherryPavlova · 10/02/2020 21:37

Solo I’d either interail around Europe or take a boat across Sweden.
I might be persuaded to walk the Camino de Santiago.

TheThingWithFeathers · 10/02/2020 21:39

My best holidays have been solo! You should give it a try sometime bringringbring!

Anyway, to answer the question, if I had ten days, I'd fly to New York and spend a couple of days there. Then I'd get the train to Chicago and from there take the California Zephyr train all the way to San Francisco. I'm going to do it one day when Trump's out.

Thisisthelaststraw · 10/02/2020 21:43

Another vote for the railways. I’ve never done it but have wanted to for so long. I’m terrified of flying so DH bought me the seat61 book a few years ago and hopefully I’ll get to explore lots of Europe in the future.

Thisisthelaststraw · 10/02/2020 21:47

Ooh TheThing that’s another dream of mine. I have it all planned out (though DH thinks it’s mad so I may revoke the invite).

I start in NYC, On the Washington DC, down to Florida, back again and head across to San Francisco and up to Washington. Private roomette on the Amtrack Superliners. Bliss.

DrWAnker · 10/02/2020 21:48

I would love to do the Orient Express or Trans-Siberian highway.
I like trains Blush.
Or I'd go to Ireland, never been, always fancied it. West coast probably.

Espoleta · 10/02/2020 21:49

Tel Aviv and Jordan.

RuffleCrow · 10/02/2020 21:49

New York. No question. I've been wanting to return for ages.

Sunshine1239 · 10/02/2020 21:51

I’d go Lapland on an activity week

Husky’s
Snowmobiling
Ice fishing
Hot tubs in the snow etc
Northern lights tour
Cross country skiing etc

Sunshine1239 · 10/02/2020 21:51

They do adult ones

Thisisthelaststraw · 10/02/2020 21:53

You can visit me DrWAnker. I’m in the north west by the ocean Smile

Don’t come in January though or you’ll just be thrown a hot water bottle and a cup of tea! No sightseeing.

TheThingWithFeathers · 10/02/2020 21:55

I like the sound of your route @Thisisthelaststraw. I can spend many happy hours planning which combination of Amtrak trains I'll take round the USA. I'd love to do New York to Miami too.
