The Robbing Butcher - Bemused by the Patio at FrogMhor Cottage

What next for the Robbing Butcher?

Will he wander past Mhor Cottage several times a day so that he can keep an eye on the progress of the patio?

Will Mr. Mhor's measurements turn out to be wrong? And will Mustress Mhor and her DH have too many SLABS as a result?

If they do, what will they do with them?

Will the eggs be dippy tomorrow?

I made myself very poorly on ouzo - can't touch the stuff now. Actually, that can be said for quite a number of drinks.Blush

yolofish · 10/03/2020 22:31

Grappa?! FFS, LTB etc. And send him out out buy Gin immedately, even if a little late, he'll manage, or else you can LTB again.

Not a great night chez yolo tbh, exploding colostomy bag all over kitchen and downstairs loo, DH and DD2 in tears - him with shame, her with the injustice of it all. I have Wine in fact lots of Wine

Raising a glass to mustress and the rest of you.

OVienna · 10/03/2020 22:34

Yolo - have sent a space and time transporter your way. Rewind the tape! Sorry for a tough night..

GracefulHippo · 10/03/2020 22:42

So Grappa is good for you? In a “close your eyes and just drink up” kind of way. Hmmm... maybe Mr Hippo was on to something after all.

I wouldn’t mind the Limoncello though. Mr Hippo and I went to Cinque Terra on our first holiday together a very long time ago. We drank a lot of Limoncello. The thought of Limoncello makes me happy Smile.

yolofish · 10/03/2020 22:46

Thanks OV. Actually not in a great space tonight, all this travel chaos and inability to know what's happening/make plans/change plans takes me back to the last 10 years of DM's life where I felt as if everything was on constant hold... ho hum, more Wine and tomorrow is another day as Scarlett O'Hara was prone to saying!

OVienna · 10/03/2020 22:58

We need to form a magic circle and...cast spells? DH is redundant, working thru gardening leave. I am having my own...shocker at work, with lots of courtly intrigue. The only question is which over ambitious and under qualified Dauphin I will have the indignity of reporting to. Plus, I'm sneezing...

GracefulHippo · 10/03/2020 22:58

Flowers Yolo. I sent you a pm.

Tomorrow is another day is a very good saying! Things do usually look brighter in the morning. And I think that Wine and Cake are also great way of bridging the time until the next day.

OVienna · 10/03/2020 23:02

Gin and spells?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/03/2020 23:03

yolo I hope this might make your DH smile a bit. I inherited my parents' rather neglected home abroad. Early on we had an unexplained blockage in the loo, probably due to the pads and so on my DM had tried to flush down it. When you flushed, sewage came up through the shower drain.

With the manhole cover tarmaced over, the only way to clear the blockage was through the loo itself. It required a special van and two operatives, plus, apparently, a helpful neighbour.

DH and I hovered outside the door, listening nervously. Lots of grunting, muttering and swearing from inside the bathroom. Suddenly, a roar, followed by more swearing. The loo had backfired, releasing all of the contents of an underground sump into the bathroom. Every surface was covered, including the two operatives, and the helpful neighbour.

It took us three days to clear up.

We are still on speaking terms with the neighbour.Smile

fleas awful but Grin

I have had tea, and am now onto coffee. It's not actually raining although we have a flood warning in place.

Hope we all positively thrive today.

Cuttingthegrass · 11/03/2020 09:05

Yolo snap about the flood warning and weather

I’ve just made myself egg bread to use up the going stale lovely bakery loaf. I’d forgotten how delicious it is!

GracefulHippo · 11/03/2020 10:00

Initial Plan for today:
Long walk, maybe go to the gym. Spending some alone time. Having a look for a dress in a department store (got a gift card for my birthday from Mr Hippo).

Revised plan:
Looking after LittleHippo who still is feeling poorly, clean the house. Maybe making buns with LittleHippo.

Just settling down with a cup of tea and a sandwich before getting stuck in!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 10:06

We have no eggs as I gave ours to DS thinking we were going away. Am eyeing next door's chicken hopefully. She perches on our shared wall. It's a long drop...

7Worfs · 11/03/2020 10:10

Hmmm... the papers are full of doom mongering, that we are two weeks away from full quarantine.

I’m supposed to start a new job 1st April.
Will I look daft to contact the line manager and ask if there’s provisions in case of?

Job can be done remotely but I need to be physically present on day 1 to show passport and collect phone and laptop.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 12:17

7 I think that's a good idea to contact your manager.

For those who asked, here are pics of the chicken palace (still some tidying up to be done as you can see) and the birds decimating an iceberg lettuce.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 12:18

and here's the palace, too much of a technofuckwit to post 2 pics on same post...

7Worfs · 11/03/2020 12:26

yolo those are some lovely ginger girls Smile

yolofish · 11/03/2020 12:27

Thank you 7 they are still feathering up after being rescued, but a million times better than they were 3 months ago. Give them a bit of sunshine and gentle temperatures and they'll be right as rain.

LaMarschallin · 11/03/2020 12:44

It is indeed a palace!
Lucky chickens.

I miss my bantams Sad

yolofish · 11/03/2020 13:08

Bantams are lovely, and the eggs so delicious. At one point we had 3 silkies, but one turned out to be a cockerel so we called him Roger (as in Moore, geddit?) and then rehomed him with friends.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 11/03/2020 13:19

Ahh the chickens are gorgeous! Very ample space there. I had no idea they ate iceberg lettuce.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 15:03

Chicken Palace is very impressive. I hope they reward you with plentiful eggs, yolo.

We have a visiting chicken who has been adopted by next door but for several years flitted between our gardens. She roosted wherever she fancied and we were finding large clutches of eggs all over the place. Usually too old to eat but hey ho.

She's pretty feisty to have survived the foxes, squirrels and cats for so long.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 19:26

fleas that must be one determined chook! She is THRIVING! ours are laying loads, and tbh the weather at the moment means they are often a bit farmyardy, so the dirty ones get scrambled and fed back to them - very good source of protein, which is actually what feathers are made of and hence should help them feather up more.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 19:31

I was watching her out of the window this afternoon, yolo. She flies off the wall and settles in one of the trees, quite high up. I think the pigeons must be very confused!

yolofish · 11/03/2020 19:38

Well if she's settling high up she should be pretty safe from foxes fleas. If she were mine I'd clip one wing and make sure she was safe. (for the threadwatchers and lurkers, you can clip one wing without hurting them, it just means they cant fly so high and therefore escape/put themselves at risk.) For some reason I'm thinking she might be a white leghorn? we've had a couple and they are flighty as fuck!! One of ours used to do the tree roosting thing until I could catch her.
