The Robbing Butcher - Bemused by the Patio at FrogMhor Cottage

TheMustressMhor · 08/02/2020 10:58

What next for the Robbing Butcher?

Will he wander past Mhor Cottage several times a day so that he can keep an eye on the progress of the patio?

Will Mr. Mhor's measurements turn out to be wrong? And will Mustress Mhor and her DH have too many SLABS as a result?

If they do, what will they do with them?

Will the eggs be dippy tomorrow?

So there were otter sightings on the other side of town, eating fish out of garden ponds.
We have 11 really well fed koi carps, I am on the fence about protecting them or letting nature take its course. Blush

yolofish · 17/02/2020 14:47

7 otters! the most delightful creatures! but if you got otters as a result of the koi...

I was reading something today - cant remember where, maybe bbc online about how rewilding beavers reduces flooding, improves water qualities and fish stocks. My dear late dad always wanted to introduce tigers to the mountains of Scotland... perhaps a little extreme but fun!

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 17/02/2020 14:51

As I apparently don't have a life, I'd sadly like to report that the weather round my end is deceptively calm. The sun was quite warm which is worrying as it's February, and Prince Harry and chinese porn sounds somewhat exciting and like a really good inspiration for a name of a cocktail or some other alcoholic beverage.

yolo please elaborate on how tigers would improve the ecosystem of the Highlands Shock

Grin

It’s a fair question...

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 17/02/2020 15:27

Do you mean wild cats? I think Scotland has a rare breed (watching too much youtube at night)

yolofish · 17/02/2020 15:44

No, he meant actual tigers. He grew up in the mountains of India where tigers were a natural occurrence, and he loved them.

No idea whether he thought they would improve the ecosystem, perhaps that they would eat the more stupid tourists?!

I loved my dad, although he was extremely eccentric and would not survive in these politically correct days...

yolofish · 17/02/2020 15:58

(and tigresses, of course...)

DivinationDandy · 17/02/2020 16:07

How amazing to grow up in an environment where tigers (and tigresses) freely roam. Somewhat risky, but amazing nonetheless.

I have the delight of free-roaming South London foxes. It’s not quite the same,

7Worfs · 17/02/2020 17:33

Sounds an amazing childhood yolo, have you lots of stories?

yolofish · 17/02/2020 17:56

dandy I bloody hate foxes with a passion... wouldnt want to hurt one though. Lost too many chickens over the years...

7 he was born in Burma in 1928, came home to UK in 1946 armed with a Burberry and a Rolex - Grandfather said both were the sign of a gentleman - and then joined the Navy.

7Worfs · 17/02/2020 19:53

It's like the beginning of a book!

The tiger introduction reminded me that when I trekked the West Highlands I went near an island (I think in Loch Lomond) populated entirely with wallabies.
Apparently the local aristo lady really liked them and decided Scotland shouldn't go without, so brought them back and introduced them on one of her islands.

yolofish · 17/02/2020 23:18

I love the idea of owning an island and populating it with a species. I think I'd for hares, they are so beautiful and magical.

Had a bad evening with DH colostomy bag exploding so signing off for tonight - much love fellow travellers.

Cuttingthegrass · 17/02/2020 23:57

Oh Yolo ...hugs

Cuttingthegrass · 17/02/2020 23:58

I also adore hares. Love seeing them ‘boxing’ in the field behind me

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 18/02/2020 09:34

Ooops, seems I missed a few days, sorry!
Was busy with life - went to see Queen with Adam Lambert on Saturday night in the Stadium at Sydney but because it was "thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening", the start was delayed by over an hour to avoid all the stadium floor seatholders being frazzled.
After that it was rather excellent, although I feel the atmosphere at the arena a few years back was better. However, it was still enormous fun and we too no.1 son to his very first rock concert, which was a bit special!

I was feeling very cocky about it until school pick-up yesterday, when I got talking to a fellow expat mum who said she'd only had breakfast with Brian May that morning!!! ShockShockShockShock
Her uncle is in the Queen crew and had come out from the UK with them, and called her to come to breakfast and there he was! (Brian, that is). SO ENVIOUS!!

  • we saw wallabies boxing in the mental hospital grounds behind us one day - there's a huge kangaroo community in the grounds, but only a few wallabies so we rarely see them - seeing a couple boxing was a rare treat!

Hoping everyone else is having a better week this week and eggs are suitably runny etc. Thanks

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/02/2020 18:33

Hello all inquiring about my welfare, we are very well, unaffected by coronavirus, quarantine or any such nasties. Limited wifi opportunities though so no MN for me! Will be feverishly catching up when I get back so don't leave me behind!😁

7Worfs · 18/02/2020 20:22

Enjoy the sun, Mischief

I'm surviving today, tired and trying to keep baby entertained.

yolofish · 18/02/2020 23:09

hello fleas have fun!

I managed to paint a bit more garden fence today, yay me. Hopefully it was early enough before the rain came... I am loving the way the 'black ash' shade disappears into the darkness, and also the way it shows off the plants

7Worfs · 19/02/2020 07:17

Nice one, yolo!
I’ll tender my resignation at end Feb and start my new job in April - I’ll also be updating LinkedIn right away Grin

Another bad night, baby was sleeping through until two days ago - now he wakes up around 1am and will not be put down in the cot again. So after a long battle I surrender and take him to bed with me.

Interesting news this morning - HMQ has put her foot down with regards to Prince Andrew (no palace celebrations or anything for his 60th) and the Sussexes (banned from using word Royal in their branding).

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/02/2020 10:32

God I feel for that poor woman, I really do.

Tonight's dinner was a simple one - pasta with broccoli florets, peas and garlic cheesey sauce. For the first time the small child agreed to having the greens in this concoction - usually he will only have the sauce and pasta (he eats veg in other contexts but not usually this one).

But they have both peed me off tonight so I got them both into bed early. Nothing major - just stropping, whining and Attitude. I'm sick of it (and the husband is away in Melbourne for the week).
Reaping the rewards now though - quiet evening! Grin

yolofish · 19/02/2020 13:09

I am only surviving today. Got more paint on the garden fence, assisted by the dog - who helpfully left a tennis ball immediately behind me. Turned round, stepped on it, landed on my arse in the paint tin and banged my elbow on a handy tree stump. Dog thought it was hilarious. Now I cant shut the sodding paint properly so have wrapped it in clingfilm and hope it survives until the next chance I get to paint. And it is threatening to rain.

thumb excellent news about early to bed! Attitude is the pits.

TheMustressMhor · 19/02/2020 13:45

Hallo, everyone.

I have been absent since Monday and am submitting my Sick Note.

I have not been sick. Mr. Mhor has not been sick.

BT, however, has been very sick indeed. I shall not bore you all with the details but their latest attempt to place the blame on me has backfired. I went next door and tried to get online with NDN's modem.

Needless to say - I succeeded. BT's announcement that there is nothing wrong with their service is inaccurate.

So anyway - I am now going to go back to where I bookmarked the thread and read everything.

Today's fried egg was 10/10 again.

The Robbing Butcher sold me some square sausage which was perfect.

Perhaps he keeps his inferior square sausage for Mr. Mhor only?

This is probably the only fred where I can admit that I had very little idea who Caroline Flack was. I mean, I'd heard the name but only in connection with Harry Styles. DD1 has enlightened me that she was mega-famous. I must get out more.

Poor woman, clearly very troubled, but still dont think she should have hit her bloke over the head with a lamp... tempted though I might be at times.
