Missing my youth and 00's nostalgia

I'm nearly 32. I know it's still young but I'm also meant to be a responsible adult (kind of). Time really does just disappear, I never thought much about this before- it was something 'old people' used to say 😂

I've had a really bad couple of years with difficult things to deal with and a coping mechanism has been to regress to 18 yr old me 😂 I mean I literally feel no different (who does?!) but I'm really really missing my teens and reminiscing a lot. Very nostalgic for the 00s right now and wondered what everyone else's memories were. I had varied taste in all things and remember...

My team being Invincibles and also winning the double (they're piss poor now)

Britney at the top of her game, wanting to basically be her!

The fashion- bootcut/flares almost indecently low rise. Boho style and Sienna Miller. Kate Moss (buying all of her Topshop collection). Tiny handbags! Massively overswept side fringes. Belly button piercings.

Loving all the indie bands, the Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Razorlight. Having massive crushes on Alex Turner and Luke Pritchard.

Kate Moss and Pete Doherty- and bumping into them in the pub.

Gavin and Stacey and the Inbetweeners.

And all my hazy memories of drunken nights out with friends and messing around in sixth form.

What else does everyone remember from that time?

See I think most 00s make up was way better than now. Much more natural and pretty.

Britney in 2002- no crazy contouring or lip filler. Mind you I loved her more dramatic makeup too and used to copy her hair and makeup from watching her music videos. She was (and is) awesome

I'm actually now really hoping for a 00s revival- I may hunt down some low rise bootcuts!

@Sagradafamiliar I too cannot believe how long it is since that music came out. She Moves In Her Own Way just makes me think of the summer when I was 18, my first job, getting pissed with my mates and my boyfriend

@AmericanStorm same here- my parents were so relaxed and didn't really care as long as we came home in one piece 😂

Massively nostalgic for this time to OP.

They were the best. Wish I could go back!

Barracker · 03/02/2020 23:20

I am here to tell you all
Bootcut jeans are Back in 2020.

Not as low rise. But they are back.
(Some of us never threw them out)

I am old, compared to you wee whippersnappers, but yes, there were some good things to wear in the noughties.
And a lot of them are now back in the shops rebranded as 'retro'.

AmericanStorm · 03/02/2020 23:21

Having to wait until the following Monday (or day after if sixth form party) to find out the extent to which you'd disgraced yourself, rather than it being all over Snapchat and whatever!

Learning to drive and making car CDs to include Razorlight, Libertines, Franz Ferdinand and the Killers.

firstimemamma · 03/02/2020 23:25

"And they definitely don't make them like that anymore. I remember buying Whatever People Say I am That's What I'm Not the day it was released and being so excited!"

Love this thread op and can totally relate. I still love arctic monkeys!

NathanNathan · 03/02/2020 23:25

I’m with you OP, I often think if someone said you can go and relive 2000 - 2010 over and over for the rest of your life I would go for it straight away! Sad

InTheTempest · 03/02/2020 23:30

@firstimemamma I'm still obsessed with them too if anything it's just increased with age 😂 I remember the video for I bet you look good on the dancefloor, they look so young, and the bit where he says 'don't believe the hype' ☺️

Sadly I'm turning into the woman in fluorescent adolescent 😂

Sagradafamiliar · 03/02/2020 23:32

I'm having to sit and take a minute to digest that all that good music came out SO LONG AGO wtf.

JimmyPanda · 03/02/2020 23:32

00's revival is definitely a thing. Download TikTok and see for yourself Shock

NathanNathan · 04/02/2020 07:33

Oh really Jimmy! I was definitely contributing to my old lady status by thinking TikTok was just for the yoof.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/02/2020 08:09

I was never a Britney fan. It was Christina for me. I played the "Stripped" album so many times that the CD broke.

firstimemamma · 04/02/2020 13:10

I get it op! Smile

purrswhileheeats · 04/02/2020 15:33

@Waxonwaxoff0 When I split up with my ex in 2003 we had a huge custody battle over the Stripped cd Shock When his back was turned I took the disc out of the case and left the case in the rack. I got a VERY angry text from him about six weeks later.... 😂

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/02/2020 16:24

@purrswhileheeats well played. Grin

Anyone else used to love the teen mags back then too? Smash Hits, Mizz... reading the "cringe" pages and doing quizzes to see which member of Busted should be your boyfriend. Grin

ReginaGeorgeous · 04/02/2020 16:56

I did! Bloody loved Mizz, do you remember the spells in the back to make your crush fall in love with you? Me and my friends used to do them dead seriously, like a seance or something.

Roodledoodlenoodle · 04/02/2020 17:23

I loved the teen mags! Started primary age with Girl Talk then when I was older I was finally allowed Mizz and Shout- I felt so grown up! Then when I was even older progressed to Sugar and Bliss Grin

anotherypasswordtoremember · 04/02/2020 17:27

I was literally listening to Linkin Park last night!

I'm enjoying the corduroy revival bit I do find it funny all the expensive 90s style brands now are the cheap stuff we wore as kids. Only the poor kids wore ASICS in school (me) and they came from macro! Haha.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/02/2020 17:34

My mum wouldn't let me read Sugar until I was 14 Grin

Urkiddingright · 04/02/2020 17:35

Horrible brown Gypsy skirts worn with a ‘waist belt’ which was leather and had a huge round buckle. High waist belts in general, I had one around my coat ffs.

When Avril Lavigne was popular so girls started wearing camo tank tops and flared jeans- they always got soaked at the bottom.

bobstersmum · 04/02/2020 17:49

I am a few years older than you op but I totally agree! Not sure if More magazine was mentioned, position of the fortnight!
I loved back then as mentioned makeup was much simpler, bit of shiny lip gloss and sparkly eyeshadow and your off! And hair mascara! I had some baby pink hair extension pieces put in at the hairdresser, I loved them. Cheeky vimto (port and blue wkd mixed) I loved Britney but I loved Christina more, the stripped album was my absolute favourite, also loved Blue! The dance music back then was just far far better than anything classed as dance nowadays, I only have to put an old CD on and I'm back there. Ahhhhhh

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 04/02/2020 17:50

I'm a bit older than you, but I was in my 20s during the Noughties (urgh) and living away from home for the first time. I both agree and disagree about the fashions! Makeup was a lot easier and more natural looking, but some of the clothes were a bit cheap and nasty. People were going round with their arses hanging out of their low rise jeans and I never could warm to those tiered mini skirts. They looked like the valance on my gran's bed from the 80s. It was all a lot more body conscious than the stuff that preceded it in the 90s and what's around now.

Having said that, the 00s were the last time I was still getting into new bands and going to gigs. I can't be arsed with all that now!

OMG yes More magazine! And I used to read Heat religiously.

Skirt trousers, I think I had some of those, they were very early 00s I think.

Agree about the dance music, I remember loving Calvin Harris. 'I got love for you if you were born in the 80s' 😂

I never really liked Christina Aguilera- she always had the look of one of the nasty girls at school to me. I loved Rihanna- and still do!

RoomR0613 · 04/02/2020 19:03

I think the skirt trousers were more very late 90s weren't they? I had a hideous grey pair from new look.
