I'm going to Costco for the first time ever! If you're a regular - what are your best buys?

OP posts:

Loo roll!

CoffeeCoinneseur · 01/02/2020 15:52

Tin foil. It's really thick and one roll lasts for ever.

And a big bag of their American pancake mix.

BonnesVacances · 01/02/2020 15:53

Breaded chicken nuggets in the freezer
Part baked baguettes
Jars of Dolmio
Big bags of brown sugar

1kg block of cheese

You must eat a lot of cheese or have a big family/both?

We bought the same 1kg cheese block and couldn't get through it. We are 2 adults and 1 toddler. It went mouldy when we got halfway

Shamazing · 01/02/2020 16:06

I'm quite excited and yes, I am that sad ... Grin

YouJustDoYou · 01/02/2020 16:08

Loo roll, detergent, some of the fruit, cola, bags of jumbo prawns, the pizza, pasta, oils, ribs, so much more.

CoffeeCoinneseur · 01/02/2020 16:08

I grate and freeze some of the cheese if we buy a 1kg block.

Freeshavocado · 01/02/2020 16:11

I've actually had to stop buying the 1kg block of cheese as DP ate it too QUICKLY, I'm sure it lasted the same amount of time a 350g block does Angry

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 01/02/2020 16:11

Coastal Cheese....or there is an alternative in the same brand, both are delicious

SanFrancisco coffee beans....gorgeous

Beurre D'Isigny.... very reasonable

Chocolate chip cookies
Shortbread Choc Chip cookies....both of these will freeze

They also do D'isgny squirty cream....much nicer than the usual spray foam!

Boned skinned chicken thighs are often good value, but watch the packs sometimes the butchering is scrappy

Braising steak...really nice quality meat

Giant Ham/Gammon joints....really super, but remember the size of your biggest pan!

Extra large jars of coffee....depending on their offers that can be amazing value

I love costco!

melissa1215 · 01/02/2020 16:12

I buy cans of Pepsi max because we have a unhealthy obsession lol

Other than that, loo roll and bleach

Freeshavocado · 01/02/2020 16:13

OP it's not sad, we did Costco and Ikea in the same day a few weeks ago and I was excited for ages before Grin

LaReinedOrange · 01/02/2020 16:13

You're not sad. Shopping at Costco is an exhilarating experience. It's a family day out for us.

Try their cafe food afterwards if you're tired from walking around.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 01/02/2020 16:14

@Freeshavocado I used to find that with Lurpak ....we seemed to go through a tub a week...no matter if it was the large or medium one...I stopped buying the big ones when the children were small and making their own lunches and breakfasts.

LaReinedOrange · 01/02/2020 16:16

Big bag of frozen Angus beef. Excellent quality. We always buy it when there.

PleasantVille · 01/02/2020 16:17

Unless you buy branded food I don't think you'll find many bargains and even then I think supermarkets often have chaper prices

I agree with loo rolls, cans of fizzy drinks and bottled water but most other things I find more expensive

Freeshavocado · 01/02/2020 16:21

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow I only buy one block of cheese a week now, it it gets eaten in 2 days then that's everyone else's fault for eating it too quickly!

I also have the Tesco website up on my phone to check prices are a good deal
