What's some good cosy escapist TV?

I'm having a hard time with my mental health and need some dramas to watch. Preferably cosy or easy viewing. BBC IPlayer and other catch-up services are full of box sets but I don't know where to begin. Any recommendations old or new would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Mum
Call the midwife
Miranda
Shakespeare and Hathaway
All currently on the iPlayer I think.

I revert to family-friendly films/programmes when I feel like this. I watched The Railway Children on iPlayer a few days ago.

A second vote for Call The Midwife. This series hasn't been too harrowing so far.

Highly recommend The good wife and then The good fight. For something funny, This Country.

1900 island is a reality TV show but very gentle. Four families go to a Welsh tidal island and live as 1900s families.

AhoyMrBeaver · 31/01/2020 19:55

The Mallorca Files is a good bit of escapist fluff.

I've watched lots of Poirots on ITV hub in recent weeks. For some reason I never watched them first time around. I wish I had!

Another vote for Call the Midwife.

I’ve stuck to the Darling Buds of May when I’ve been low before Flowers

Call the midwife and Miranda have got me through some hard times!
They just give me a vibe that makes me feel happy x

MrsGolightyly · 31/01/2020 19:57

I used to watch Rosemary and Thyme for easy watching.

Floralnomad · 31/01/2020 19:59

Dd and I have just watched all of The Durrells and that was lovely .

RainbowMum11 · 31/01/2020 20:00

Death in paradise
Shakespeare & Hathaway

slashlover · 31/01/2020 20:01

All 5 series of Merlin are on iPlayer, I love that show.

DamnItsSevenAM · 31/01/2020 20:01

I absolutely love Detectorists. Hope you feel better soon OP.

I always find the James Herriott All Creatures Great and Small are brilliant for simple/easy watching.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 31/01/2020 20:03

Darling Buds of May

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/01/2020 20:05

I second Detectorists. All three series plus the Christmas special on iPlayer at the moment.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 31/01/2020 20:06

1980s Miss Marple with Joan Hickson is on Alibi, if you have it.

Whatdayisit2 · 31/01/2020 20:07

Mum is lovely and I also loved the recent Dracula series- honestly !

justasking111 · 31/01/2020 20:09

I am watching Monk on amazon, love that series. The Middle on amazon hits the spot too. You could have a free trial month. Then a free trial month on Netflix.

justasking111 · 31/01/2020 20:10

The very best escapist series for me was The Waltons.

museumum · 31/01/2020 20:10

Sewing bee and pottery throwdown are both lovely

Manchmallehrerin · 31/01/2020 20:10

not a drama... but the great pottery throwdown is back on C4

DariaMorgendorffer · 31/01/2020 20:11

Queer eye!

ChibiTotoro · 31/01/2020 20:13

Father Brown, it's gentle despite the required murder investigation every episode!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 31/01/2020 20:13

Not dramas but if you're after some comedies:

Crazy Ex Girlfriend
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Jane the Virgin
Brooklyn 99

All on Netflix. I'd recommend watching 2-3 episodes to get hooked Grin

I'll try and think of some dramas - I'm watching Call the Midwife at the moment. Is the 90s BBC Pride and Prejudice available anywhere? I always find that comforting!
