What's some good cosy escapist TV?

I'm having a hard time with my mental health and need some dramas to watch. Preferably cosy or easy viewing. BBC IPlayer and other catch-up services are full of box sets but I don't know where to begin. Any recommendations old or new would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

If your looking for more of a documentary type box set I can recommend the way around or long way down with ewan McGregor and Charlie boardman. Really good

Dinnerladies got me through some dark days, anything by Victoria Wood, really. Pat and Margaret is wonderful, so is Housewife 49.

YES YES YES to Father Brown. I used to watch it with my son in the evenings while we ate our evening meal.

justasking111 · 31/01/2020 20:23

Golden girls used to hit the spot, think you tube have it.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 31/01/2020 20:24

Father Brown
Shakespeare and Hathaway
Agatha Raisin

iklboo · 31/01/2020 20:25

Father Brown - YES. Family viewing for us. We all love it.
The Detectorists - great show, lovely scenery, fab soundtrack
The Goes Wrong Show for laughs & silly escapism.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 31/01/2020 20:25

I adore Mad Men. As above you need to watch a few to get into it.

I really liked Atypical. Gossip Girl is a great bit of trash escapism 😂

I'm thinking of starting Derry Girls.

HirplesWithHaggis · 31/01/2020 20:26

Hamish MacBeth. Robert Carlyle and some stunning scenery, what's not to like?

RedRec · 31/01/2020 20:26

Doc Martin saved me when I was on a prolonged downer, OP. I watched it over and over.
Then Breaking Bad! (Not cosy at all but brilliant and funny and gripping. And there is lots of it.)

DollyTots · 31/01/2020 20:27

My go to shows when I was at the worst with my mental health was Jonathan creek and diagnosis murder. I actually watched some diagnosis murder on the morning of my wedding day because I couldn’t sleep or calm down Grin

f00k · 31/01/2020 20:29

If you have Netflix, Gilmore Girls is a cosy, easy watch.

PseudoBadger · 31/01/2020 20:30

Jonathan Creek

INeedNewShoes · 31/01/2020 20:30

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat do start Derry Girls! A friend recommended it to me. For the first 5 minutes I was a bit Hmm at my friend's recommendation, then I got into it and really enjoyed it.

Completely different but I see a pp has suggested Pride & Prejudice. Great idea! And I happened to notice the whole BBC version is on iPlayer at the moment. I'm looking forward to rewatching it.

Gogolego · 31/01/2020 20:31

Thank you all so much for the recommendations and for the kind words. All of the suggested shows sound perfect. I know I said dramas earlier, but really any cosy or escapist form of TV is very welcome and I'm spoiled for choice now. I'm looking forward to losing myself in them. Thank you again.
