Dull thread alert - Shark or Dyson?

I've owned and loved Dysons for around 25 years now. My third, a DC39 Animal, is coming to the end of it's life so I'm looking to replace it this weekend.

We're a four adult household with a dog.

I've never had a problem with Dysons but I keep reading good things about Sharks and they are a bit cheaper.
I don't want cordless (I also have a cordless Dyson but it's not enough for a proper clean up, just a quick go over on the upholstery or stairs) and don't want to spend more that £300.

Has anyone swapped to a Shark from Dyson and not regretted it? I'm usually very brand loyal.

I replaced my Dyson last year with the Shark true pet and definitely no regrets!

The amount it collected that my Dyson hadn’t picked up was shocking!

LoopyLu2019 · 31/01/2020 14:26

Shark, I went miele to shark and the shark is SOOO much better.

NaughtyLittleElf · 31/01/2020 14:26

Shark, I wouldn't have another Dyson.

Shark. I’ve got two. I absolutely love them. Had Dyson in the past and couldn’t believe the difference.

AHorseCalledCroc · 31/01/2020 14:27

I nearly started a thread like this just before Christmas! I got a Shark and love it, it's so much better than the Dyson I had and I actually don't mind hoovering now. It picks up so much that the Dyson wasn't and even leaves the 'hoover lines' I see people talking about (not for long in my house though with a dog and 2 young boys Grin)

Cheeryandmerry · 31/01/2020 14:27

Have a dog too.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/01/2020 14:29

Shark, definitely. I had a Dyson and it was rubbish and far too expensive.

rubydoobydoo · 31/01/2020 14:30

Miele Smile

Shark. I’ve always had Dyson uprights but changed to a Shark corded stick vacuum, it was the anti hair wrap technology that swung it for me when deciding. I’m thrilled with it! No more chopping up tangled hair from the roller like with my Dysons and it’s so easy to use, even now when heavily pregnant. I found the Dyson a chore to lug around. I actually enjoy vacuuming now!

castlesfromtherubble · 31/01/2020 14:40

I've just ditched my Dyson for a Shark. I got it in the sale too; absolute bargain and I love it. It absolutely spanks the Dyson in every way. Battery life, power, ease of cleaning and emptying, just everything.

MadisonAvenue · 31/01/2020 14:42

Fabulous, I should've asked here first rather than watching endless YouTube videos of men vacuuming and giving reviews 😂

Thanks all Smile

I've been wanting a new hoover for a while and always had dysons...which shark one would you recommend..had a look on the internet and there's a few..which one is the best? Have got a dog too Smile

Verite1 · 31/01/2020 15:35

I have a shark and I hate it. My dyson was much better.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 31/01/2020 15:51

I've got a ridiculously moulty dog and my Shark is 100% better than my old Dyson. You won't regret it!

molemonkey · 31/01/2020 16:03

I got the shark pet duo (cordless) to replace our dyson and I'd never buy another dyson again.

Aurea · 31/01/2020 16:38

I have both a Dyson V8 absolute and a Shark duoclean. I Prefer the Shark on carpets and the Dyson on hard floors. The Dyson is more manoeuvrable.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 16:58

Shark TruePet. Would never touch a Dyson again.

Shark was a total revelation. It's like an engineer who actually uses a vacuum on a regular basis designed it. Shock

haveuheard · 31/01/2020 18:14

I got the top of the range Shark and am probably going to have to call the engineers out, already had a part replaced and its only just over a year old. I wouldn't buy another one. The fact that it all unclips is a really good idea, but after a year the clips are already wearing fairly loose, I don't think it will last that long. And the attachment for doing the edges of the carpet won't stay on which is very very annoying. The engineer will be coming out as its not sucking up very well and making a horrible noise. I've cleaned the filters etc and everything and still bad. I am a bit unlucky with vacuums though.

Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 18:15

Shark

OldSpeclkledHen · 31/01/2020 18:20

I fucking hate my Dyson.
I borrow a Henry from a friend now ... even the little twat machine toppling over as soon as I look at it, is nothing compared to the hate I feel for the cordless handheld machine (that refuses to pick up stuff)

sweetkitty · 31/01/2020 18:23

After about 5 Dysons and I got a shark and have never looked back, 6 people 3 cats and a dog. The Shark does need emptying more (it seems to pick up more) and topples over in gadget mood but overall it’s a lot better.

FairfaxAikman · 31/01/2020 18:25

Shark - but a corded one not a cordless as it has more power. First time I used ours I only managed to do the downstairs loo and the hall to the bottom of the stairs before it was full.

RainInJuly · 31/01/2020 18:26

I love my Shark. Get the one with the pet hair attachment, it changed my sofas life

RainInJuly · 31/01/2020 18:27

Agree with PP that corded is better than cordless.

BrokenWing · 31/01/2020 18:30

I hate my shark, crap on hard floors, falls over constantly when using the tools, and the hose gets blocked with a build up of dog hair every couple of months and need power washed through to clear/then wait a couple of days to dry.

I will probably go back to a dyson or maybe try miele when the shark dies.
