Dull thread alert - Shark or Dyson?

I've owned and loved Dysons for around 25 years now. My third, a DC39 Animal, is coming to the end of it's life so I'm looking to replace it this weekend.

We're a four adult household with a dog.

I've never had a problem with Dysons but I keep reading good things about Sharks and they are a bit cheaper.
I don't want cordless (I also have a cordless Dyson but it's not enough for a proper clean up, just a quick go over on the upholstery or stairs) and don't want to spend more that £300.

Has anyone swapped to a Shark from Dyson and not regretted it? I'm usually very brand loyal.

I have a shark. It cleans well but is so heavy. I wouldn't buy another one for that reason.

bitheby · 31/01/2020 18:31

I've just bought a Shark to replace a Dyson. I won't buy another Dyson because of Brexit. I don't regret it.

Shark, I'm looking at the new anti hair wrap duo clean ones. Both me & ds have long hair & I can't be doing with unjamming the rollers. I've had Dyson's for over 15 years & I'm fed up with them not working & having to take them to pieces.

Shark lift away is amazing
Ive had 2 Dysons and they are not nearly as good

Proseccoagain · 31/01/2020 23:08

Shark Pet liftaway, it's amazing. Have two long haired cats and the amount it picks up is amazing. I have the cordless one, and it's so easy. So easy to remove the cat fur from the brushes and the roller.

Miele Smile

FlaskMaster · 31/01/2020 23:15

My Dyson broke/worked intermittently after only a couple of months. Got a shark, it's fucking brilliant.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/01/2020 23:19

My Dyson sucked. Well, actually it DIDN'T suck after a few (too few) years and that was the problem. I replaced it with a Shark and I love it.

But be aware that the Shark (IMO) is VERY heavy compared to the Dyson. So if you have weak arms (like me) you'll be giving them quite a workout.

Paddingtonthebear · 31/01/2020 23:22

I was told by a friends son who works at Currys that they get more Sharks returned than any other brand. I did nearly buy one recently but that put me off plus the fact I had an older model shark a few years ago and it lost suction within months.

So then I nearly bought a Dyson this month but friends bad reviews put me off so I have now bought a Sebo and hopefully I won’t have to replace it for a very long time

anon2000000000 · 31/01/2020 23:23

Shark. I got shot of my dyson for a shark. I will never buy a dyson or any other brand of hoover again.

I found my dyson to be much heavier than my shark.

Paddingtonthebear · 31/01/2020 23:28

Forgot to add, the Sebo has just replace a Miele c3 Powerline which we didn’t find that great in a house with lots of carpet, very hard work to push. Uprights are so much better on carpet than canister vacuums with a flat head.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply, you've convinced me to ditch the Dyson so I've ordered the Shark AZ910UKT.

castlesfromtherubble · 01/02/2020 09:37

Good choice, OP. Update please when it arrives (I loves a good vacuum thread Grin)

AlwaysCheddar · 01/02/2020 11:09

Hate the shark with 2 batteries.... it’s going back.

Southmouth · 01/02/2020 16:26

That’s the model I’ve got OP, you won’t be disappointed Grin

TabbyCatPaws · 01/02/2020 16:33

I was tempted by a Shark but Dyson still came out better in Which tests, so I stuck with it. I like the idea of anti-hair wrap technology though!!

peanutbuttermarmite · 01/02/2020 16:34

Miele cat and dog. Had 3 dysons before Miele conversion. No more digging out stuck fur from the back of the canister!

MadisonAvenue · 03/02/2020 21:34

Bloody Currys Angry
I've excitedly been to collect the Shark tonight, brought it home and put it together and then realised that the pet brush wasn't in the box. On closer inspection they've sent the normal one rather than the True Pet.

By then the phone lines were closed and I've looked online and there aren't any available for delivery and the nearest stores with stock would mean a 2 hour (at least) round trip Angry so I'll now have to call tomorrow and see what they're going to do about it.

Long haired cat owner here. Dyson couldn't touch shed cat hair on a carpet. Shark takes it up it with no problem. Plus it's much lighter than a Dyson. I'd have a Shark over a Dyson any day.

MadisonAvenue · 06/02/2020 16:45

@Southmouth You're right - I'm not disappointed at all, I'm very impressed! And the Lift Away makes cleaning our two flights of stairs so much easier.

@castlesfromtherubble Here's your update Grin The difference between this and the Dyson is astonishing. I ordered it from Shark when Currys let me down. I ordered it on Tuesday afternoon and was hoovering with it at 8.30am on Wednesday.

I'd always thought the Dyson had done a good job but the amount of dust and hair this has pulled out of the carpets, which I'd only hoovered the previous day with the Dyson, is unbelievable. They actually look like they do after I've used my carpet shampooer on them.

I used to love Dyson, but our last one just wasn't great. The quality has certainly gone downhill. We replaced it with a shark and whilst I'm sure they will suffer the same fate in quality they are currently fabulous!

wildthingsinthenight · 06/02/2020 16:49

Shark. Dysons are rubbish in comparison. I've had both

castlesfromtherubble · 06/02/2020 17:27

Yes, OP! I'm so pleased. I also had the same result on my carpets. Glad it worked out for you.

goldenorbspider · 06/02/2020 17:34

I very recently got a shark after being team Dyson. The feminist in me hates that it makes me soo happy. I think they're more Maintenece, cleaning filters ext but definitely worth it.

goldenorbspider · 06/02/2020 17:34

Sorry just seen your update! Enjoy
