Currently in A&E Majors-AMA

Been in majors for almost 9 hours , suspected meningitis originally but being treated for another kind of infection and waiting to be scanned as I’m 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow . I was put on IV fluids , 2 litres as my blood pressure plummeted, temp rose to 40, very sick, given morphine , antibiotics and paracetamol so feeling a bit more alive . DH fast asleep on my bedside bless him.
So whilst I’m waiting to be moved to MAU and a ward , I thought I’d log on here for some company whilst DH sleeps. Ask me anything (doesn’t have to be hospital related !)

How did you get there? Ambulance/walk in?

@purple blue lighted in , DH walked as they had too much gear in the van (paramedic got to us before ambulance). Only took 15 seconds in the paramedic car ! DH arrived shortly after x

Do you have a preferred shape of pasta?

What a good idea for a thread - I spent much of my last pregnancy lurching between ambulanced emergencies. Am so sorry though that you so unwell.

How's the pregnancy been going? Any feeling re boy/girl, resemblances to you/DP? Any name ideas?

@pothole I like stuffed pasta (the ham one is nice), but shape wise I love the macaroni pasta . You ?

I think we are going to have a boy but my husband thinks girl ! Girl names we have lined up are Bronwen Rose, Alessia Rose or Ella Rosalie . Boy names Ezra Paul, Ethan Paul or Benjamin Paul I think !
Other than severe morning sickness i have been ok so far ! This has thrown a right spanner in the works !
What are you DC called ? Any name ideas to add to our list ?

I'm spaghetti all the way. So messy though with a toddler, so I often stick to penne.

Fusilli, mostly. Can't stand quills, because I associate it with being a miserable student who couldn't afford anything more expensive than Tesco Value pasta.

If Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen was going to jazz up the ward (or your home!), what would you want him to do first?

Oh, and macaroni pasta stewed with potato chunks and carrots is what I want when I'm ill, because it reminds me of when I was a child.

I like Rosalie and Ezra - both kind of classic and yet a bit unusual. My three have names specific to my husband's culture, so maybe not much help. Currently in search of two more names - am 8wks with twins, so unexpected

@LapsedVeganAcademic ooo Spag Bol !! My fave as a child until I sneezed once and it came out my nose !! It put mum off giving me it again 😂😂

@pothole my gosh the ward needs loads doing to it !! A bit of colour would be a good start ! Some duck egg colours , nice pastel colours and some art work and nice cushions would be perfect for the ward !!

I hope you feel better soon. Would it be bad to say I'm jealous you can get a phone signal you cannot get one at all in our local majors bit. It's worrying for non patients as they can't contact you, the staff always say they will make a phone call for you but I think they have too much to do already!

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles love your username 🤣 not bad at all, because I work at the hospital , I get automatically logged onto the staff wifi - if I’ve ever had family or friends on the ward they get no signal at all. I can’t make calls or texts , just got wifi so luckily I can imessage and whatsapp If people have that but can’t get hold of any family at the moment ! Bloody nightmare !

Oh dear. Poor Llewellyn had better get cracking! Did they say really "get cracking" on every episode of Changing Rooms, or am I thinking of another renovation show? You don't have to answer that!

What do you think can be done to make being in the emergency department a less miserable experience?

@Layoverlife thank you very much , I’ve just had half a cheese sandwich 🥪 and some lucozade to try and get my energy up , it’s so hard to swallow my throat is red raw ! What is your go to food ?

@PotholeParadise I think that’s the right show yes !

@youalreadyknow , I’d say more colour , and for the drs to try their best (I know it’s hard as they’re busy), but try and update you on your care plan as my husband and I have zero clue what we are currently waiting for test or result wise !! Also it would be nice to be offered food , DH went to the shop to get me some as the HCA’s who usually offer are nowhere to be seen . I work at this hospital and do know we are stretched for staff but it’s a real eye opener !

What's your favourite thing to have on toast? Mine is real butter and marmite.

Flavoured milkshake (or flavoured soya/oat/almond milk) is the way to go if you need energy and can't eat!

@ohmysoul me too, I love butter and marmite ! Not had it since being pregnant though as not fancied it but I am a huge fan .

@PotholeParadise currently in MAU and they’re keeping me in for two days . Say I have a bad infection and want to get on top of it . I feel like death !!
