Been in majors for almost 9 hours , suspected meningitis originally but being treated for another kind of infection and waiting to be scanned as I’m 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow . I was put on IV fluids , 2 litres as my blood pressure plummeted, temp rose to 40, very sick, given morphine , antibiotics and paracetamol so feeling a bit more alive . DH fast asleep on my bedside bless him.
So whilst I’m waiting to be moved to MAU and a ward , I thought I’d log on here for some company whilst DH sleeps. Ask me anything (doesn’t have to be hospital related !)

They are selling Marmite Peanut Butter in our local Morrisons. DS2 loves Marmite but went 🤮 at the pic I sent him....

GaaaaarlicBread · 31/01/2020 16:01

Can’t say peanut butter marmite tickles my fancy !!

Heathens! Grin Peanut butter and marmite is delicious! Actually prefer bovril and peanut butter to be fair. I had been with my husband 10 years before I would try it and fell in love. Then I found out I had allergies to peanut butter and wheat. Grin So upsetting!!

Hope they get on top of the infection really quickly and you feel better soon!

Wonder how it differs from trust to trust but I believe you wont get admitted to MAU (it may not even be called that) at such a relatively early gestation in my trust.

Not 100% sure as thankfully I've never needed admission and I've not been pregnant for a while now.

Crunchymum · 31/01/2020 16:51

Ps get well soon Flowers

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 31/01/2020 17:25

Crunchy MAU is medical assessment unit in our trust.

I’m being treated for Sepsis , and the consultant told me ‘we won’t scan you because you’re getting a scan in two weeks anyway and if your seizures and infection have caused a loss , it’s not a viable age anyway so I’m not bothered’ . Not sure how I feel but I’m quite emotional anyway from being so poorly and tired . Got to stop in until Sunday or Monday minimum to get on top of the infection . Thanks ladies for keeping me company , I’ll be up all night if anyone is around to chat ! X

PotholeParadise · 31/01/2020 22:11

Oh, that's... very blunt of the consultant.

I think it goes without saying that I hope that it all goes well with you from here.

GaaaaarlicBread · 31/01/2020 22:17

@pothole thank you I’ll keep you updated

I think you could probably argue your case for a scan with a more sympathetic consultant! What’s your favourite cheese? I’m currently watching my cat eat my dogs food!Grin

springrollover · 31/01/2020 23:32

He's not bothered ?!?! That's a pretty brutal statement, especially from a consultant.
Surely under the circumstances a reassurance scan would be more appropriate after your treatment & before discharge ?

DaisyDreaming · 31/01/2020 23:38

Favourite thing to watch on YouTube or Netflix?

springrollover · 31/01/2020 23:41

Oh sorry forgot to ask, what is your favourite way to utterly chill out ?
Am having bad fibro flare & my full body pillow is my best friend at mo. Currently indulging in new season of This Is Us with heat pad round my shoulders

JustonTime · 31/01/2020 23:48

Is it very busy there tonight? It's looking like I may have to go in myself but the wait when you're in pain is torture.

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/01/2020 23:49

Have you identified any Charlie Fairhead or Dylan Keogh types amongst the staff?

JustonTime · 31/01/2020 23:50

I guess they haven't identified where the infection is yet? Are you in pain?

Skybluepink123 · 01/02/2020 00:11

You poor thing, it must be an awful time for you. How insensitive of the consultant too! I hope you soon start to feel a lot better. 💐

GaaaaarlicBread · 01/02/2020 02:15

@Haggisfish I think I might ask someone else today , worth a shot ! My favourite cheese-I’m very basic and like a good old cheddar cheese! Mild or mature , I also like Dairylea slices melted in a toastie with ham ! Your car sounds awesome 🤣 what dog do you have ?
@springrollover exactly ! That’s what my husband said , let’s hope I can see someone today about it ! My favourite way to chill out is hot water bottle , strong cup of tea that’s brewed a while, and some Miranda on the tv 🤭
@DaisyDreaming I’m a sucker for Vloggers on YouTube , not sure why! And on Netflix I’m a Miranda , Pretty Little Liars or David Attenborough fan !
@JustonTime oh no! What’s happened ? I was in A&E majors most the day, only came to this ward at about 7:30pm after getting to a&e at 3am - painful ! They’re thinking the tonsillitis started the whole infection , if I’d gone to the drs when the pain started it may have been prevented but they said it spread pretty quickly
@MrsMoastyToasty there was a bit of a Charlie Consultant before who’d been working as a consultant since the 80’s , so pretty close !
@Skybluepink123 thank you so much 💕

@Haggisfish that should say your cat sounds awesome , not car ! Although I’m sure your car is equally as awesome x

"I'm not bothered" ShockHmm I've always found there are different consultants doing the rounds, I have never just seen the same one, and definitely hope you get someone more sympathetic. Can you ask to see someone else do you think?

I actually prefer bluntness and honesty in HCPs these days, but I'm sure I wouldn't have in my pregnancies as it's a worrying enough time without being ill yourself. I hope you see someone kinder Thanks

GaaaaarlicBread · 01/02/2020 15:04

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles thank you. The new staff here are lovely and I’ve been seen by another respiratory consultant and lovely HCA’s and Nurses who told me they are sorry I’m feeling so anxious and they will do all they can to make me better . They tried to arrange an US but unfortunately with it being the weekend they’re very short staffed and have said if I get severe cramps or bleeding they can’t get anyone to come to the ward which I understand . At least they tried and were kind 💕 I’m sure baby bean is fine but I do feel worried but so far things seem ok baby wise , just need to get myself better ☹️

@itsemily How are you doing now?

If it's any consolation, I received an only marginally less tactful response to my request for a scan when I landed in A&E at similar gestation with DD2 after a bad fall. She was unharmed, though.

MrsMozartMkII · 02/02/2020 09:15

Hope you feel very much better very quickly lass.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 02/02/2020 13:11

How are you feeling today @itsemily? At least it is Monday tomorrow so they may be more proactive.

I just remembered I was an inpatient with a really bad chest infection when I was very very pregnant with DD2. It was over Christmas as well! It's very hard, especially when you feel so ill yourself as well as worrying about the baby. (Btw DD2 is at this very moment trying to get out of doing her coursework by persuading me to go to the pub with her Grin I hope in 18 years you are also getting similarly mithered and can barely remember this time! Thanks)

GaaaaarlicBread · 02/02/2020 16:22

Just been discharged @LapsedVeganAcademic @WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles @MrsMozartMkII thank you for all your kind words and encouraging stories . I have a scan tomorrow at 4:45pm so I’ll let you know how it goes . Been sent home with more antibiotics and told to rest , so no work tomorrow for me I guess x
