Did your school have a metal climbing frame in the gym hall? What did you call it?

In the depths of Glasgow, we had a Kelvin frame and I presumed this was a universal term... DH is claiming that it is not and Google isn't backing me up.

It's like the dinner school debate all over again Grin

We just called ours a climbing frame (also west of Scotland).

I also knew it as the apparatus. Grew up in Suffolk

MrsPworkingmummy · 30/01/2020 21:32

We did (in the late 80s) and called it the 'apparatus'. No idea whether it had an official name. I'm a teacher now and we've just got rid of ours x

BooksWithPrettyCovers · 30/01/2020 21:32

Apparatus is very fancy sounding. This was a rather more medieval installation Grin

Iloveacurry · 30/01/2020 21:32

I think we called them The Bars (West Sussex)

GorkyMcPorky · 30/01/2020 21:32

The apparatus too - it's still there.

Also the 'apparatus' - London, early 90s.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 30/01/2020 21:33

The apparatus. It was a rare treat for it to be set out.

Cheeryandmerry · 30/01/2020 21:34

The apparatus, disappointingly it was only properly brought out and played with once during my seven years at primary school.

TinyTimsCrutch · 30/01/2020 21:35

Apparatus or wall bars (Sussex) was always good to go in the hall and the wall bars were pulled out!

Ohmymg · 30/01/2020 21:35

Apparatus here in north east too. Usually in your knickers and vest Hmm

I always thought it was the operators .

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/01/2020 21:38

The big apparatus - I remember running into it and knocking myself out too - and the the look of shock on my teachers face when I came around!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 30/01/2020 21:38

Big apparatus (aka wall bars)
Small apparatus (horse, beam etc)

BertieBotts · 30/01/2020 21:39

It was wooden at the two primary schools I went to, not metal, and definitely the apparatus or the wall bars.

Violetroselily · 30/01/2020 21:40

London in the 90s.

The metal frames were the apparatus - we had varying different sizes that were set up into a great obstacle course.

We also had the climbing wall which was a ceiling height wooden climbing frame, and the ropes which we rarely used.
