I seem to .ha.ve a super power - do you have one

So yesterday my carer and I were discussing him getting a kindle. I have 2 working kindles and I suggested he get them both to look at the features / size / weight.

He was convinced they were identical so, to solve the issue he weighed them both.

I was right. One kindle is 3g lighter than the other.

So I seem to have a superpower of noticing when things are slightly lighter/heavier.

What power(s) do you have?

I can spell words backwards easily and can write them as quickly as I can forwards.
Totally useless skill that will never save the world.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 31/01/2020 22:57

My DD just said she can make faces in letters.

Pywife2 · 31/01/2020 23:50

When I have migraine, my sense of smell becomes really sensitive. The downside is I have to keep showering. The other possibility is that I sweat more when I get migraine, but I do notice other smells as well so I don't think it's that.

Like Boxyloxy, I'm also completely invisible at times and that does extend to emails, which seemingly cannot be read by others however clearly I word them. I am even inaudible at times. This power has got stronger as I've got older. Fortunately it's been accompanied by the growth of my most useful super power, which is not giving a fuck about what other people think anyway.

MrsBobDylan · 01/02/2020 00:02

I can 'hear' the subtext to what people are saying - through their tone of voice mainly. I always know when someone is lying although I may not consciously think it at the time, it will pop into my head later on.

I can hear if people are happy, sad and a whole range of emotions in between. I also pick up what they think of me which is unhelpful because I'd rather not know. Sometimes I'll play back snippets of conversation and I will suddenly know more information about that person, usually stuff they want to keep secret.

Lojoh · 01/02/2020 00:03

I cannot smell sugar in drinks, no.

I can easily tell if a AA battery is drained or full. The drained ones are clearly lighter.

Lojoh · 01/02/2020 00:04

^ I feel like this shouldn't be true, and yet...

Nat6999 · 01/02/2020 00:22

I can hear electricity in walls, can spot a mark the size of a tiny fly on a wall. My superpower is Autism.

blueshoes · 01/02/2020 00:33

What is this ear rumbling. Is the rumbling loud enough for others to hear or just yourself?

I can make my ear sort of flutter - left ear is better at this than the right. The sound I hear (and only me) is the sound of wind brushing past a sheet.

blueshoes · 01/02/2020 00:34

My superpower is to relieve back pain by walking on the person's back while they are lying on their stomach on the floor. Caveat: I only weigh 7 stones.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 01/02/2020 00:38

I know when a delivery is here - being courier, postie or food. I just know that someone is about to knock - freaks my family out no end. Has to be my house though - can't do others.

managedmis · 01/02/2020 00:48

I'm fairly psychic with stuff too. Sometimes I can finish people's sentences with random, unpredictable stuff but I don't.

Can also tell from a mile away when people fancy other. BIL and his 'friend' were flirting, it was so obvious they fancied each other, DH didn't believe any of it at all. He did when they started sleeping together.

Suewiththeredford · 01/02/2020 02:17

I can see rumble. I thought everyone could.

My child is a super sniffer and can identify jumpers without name tags etc. At the end of term last summer, his TA sat him next to the lost property box at school and he sorted the whole lot out. He is amazingly accurate.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 01/02/2020 08:44

Erm, I have something that could be like kryptonite to your super power: phone, whatsApp, instagram and messenger.

Hardly anybody read emails these days, they are the domain of work and school, no longer the social thing they used to be.

letsgomaths · 01/02/2020 08:45

@Suewiththeredford That's impressive with the lost property box, could he tell which jumper belonged to which child?

I remember as a child doing an experiment on my brother I'd read in a children's science book (we loved experiments like this): I blindfolded him and got him to sniff clothes belonging to different people in the family, to see if he could work out who each one belonged to. Following the advice in the book, I made sure he couldn't see at all, and I didn't let him feel them, but he got most of them right. I didn't do so well though. Shock

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 01/02/2020 08:48

@letsgomaths, my son was the same, he could sort the whole class jumpers by the smell. He often commented about smells he recognised like “that kid smells like the spare room of dad’s friend” Grin

Juliette20 · 01/02/2020 08:49

Last summer I did some strawberry picking, and every punnet of mine was almost exactly 250g.

ForalltheSaints · 01/02/2020 08:54

I can guess where to be on a train or tube so when we get to the station and get off I am near the stairs or other exit. Even to places I have never been to or through.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 01/02/2020 08:55

I’ve been accused of being a mind reader, but I think I am just very emphatic, I can feel when people are sad, nervous, lying etc... it seems completely obvious to me when I talk to someone but somehow, its not to Mr Titanic Confused

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 01/02/2020 08:58

*empathetic
Spelling is not a superpower I am blessed with Smile

Sulusu · 01/02/2020 10:39

I can speed read, including upside down writing or backwards. Completely useless skill.

Cyberve · 01/02/2020 10:50

I can tell if a person is an asshole within seconds of meeting them. I also know if they are dangerous and not to be trusted. That has landed some people in trouble when they haven't listened..

I'm very good at telling what people are thinking too, and how they are feeling. Only meet a few people who had such a good poker face that I haven't had a clue which totally threw me. But once I get to know them I can work it out a bit. Must be picking up on some minute changes that I'm not consciously aware of.

Oh and I have the same thing as @wheresmymojo. Got an enormous bladder, so handy as I hate public bathrooms.

Cyberve · 01/02/2020 10:51

Met not meet.

puds11 · 01/02/2020 10:56

I’m a boss at untangling things. Xmas lights? Pass them my way. Delicate necklace? Give me two ticks!

mamaduckbone · 01/02/2020 11:11

I can pick up the exact number of sheets of paper / pencils / pens that I need for a group of children without counting - almost always exactly right or within one or two either way been teaching too long.

BendyLikeBeckham · 01/02/2020 11:43

@TheMotherofAllDilemmas if that smell link example is one you recall, it's bloody weird and creepy Shock

My superpower is that I can close my eyes and see words, numbers and letters in floaty shapes and colours, like with an aura around them. M is orangey yellow for example. And the weekdays form an ovoid shape with Sat and Sun at the top and it runs anticlockwise. Wednesday is blue. Saturday yellow. I can also see weird moving lines and scenes of stretching fractals and experience a horrible spatial weirdness when I've got a temperature.

It is called synaesthesia. I thought this was the same for everyone and they could see all these colours and shapes in things too until very recently.
