I seem to .ha.ve a super power - do you have one

So yesterday my carer and I were discussing him getting a kindle. I have 2 working kindles and I suggested he get them both to look at the features / size / weight.

He was convinced they were identical so, to solve the issue he weighed them both.

I was right. One kindle is 3g lighter than the other.

So I seem to have a superpower of noticing when things are slightly lighter/heavier.

What power(s) do you have?

Gogreen - I have this superpower too! As soon as I step foot in a room I hone in on the spider. I'm scared of them too!

My other superpowers are: a) being able to tell when people are pregnant before they announce and; b ) being able to drive a route for the second time ever without a map, even if I've previously only looked at the route on Streetview and even if the second time is me driving the other way on the new route.

rosybell · 30/01/2020 22:43

I can read the dc their bedtime stories, doing the voices and everything whilst thinking about something completely different- usually what I'm about to cook for dinner ..

Frlrlrubert · 30/01/2020 22:47

I can still hear really high pitches at 35. Those teenager deterrents, etc. I think it's staring to fade though because this week (teaching sound) 75% of 11 year olds beat me :(

The downside of this seems to be that I can't tell what direction 'miss' is coming from with my back turned, and I struggle to follow one conversation if more are going on around me.

Since DD I have the 'mum look' power of finding things.

I'm great and knowing if things will fit in places, whether you can fit that bookcase in your car or the sofa in that gap in your new house.

I'm awesome at reversing.

I'm very tasty if you're a flea, so the first to know if there are fleas on the dog/cat/sofa.

I can taste coriander (yuk) in the most minute amounts - not really a bonus.

LightDrizzle · 30/01/2020 23:01

I have no super powers sadly but I think this belongs in Classics!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/01/2020 23:01

I have an uncanny ability to sense whether a D.C. is going to wake up in the middle of the night or not. I won’t drop off, or will keep reading, despite knowing that it’s now 1am and I have to be up for work at 6. Then DD or DS will cry out and I’ll think “that’s why I couldn’t sleep!” Kids are now 5 & 7, so not tiny and not waking at night much any more.

Reginabambina · 30/01/2020 23:05

I have a very sensitive hearing. I can hear electricity (particularly in old cables or appliances that use a lot of it). I think it’s something to do with my sinuses/ear canals because I am also very prone to ear infections so I wonder whether they aren’t a bit weird. Looking forward to going a bit deaf as I age.

Reginabambina · 30/01/2020 23:07

Oh, I am also able to do a psycho murderer face apparently. My kid can do it too. I was quite upset the first time I saw it until I realised that he was actually just staring blankly through me and didn’t hate me.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 30/01/2020 23:09

"I have an uncanny ability to sense whether a D.C. is going to wake up in the middle of the night or not"

That's reminded me. I know...just know when one of them is going to puke. With enough time to leg it upstairs with a sick bucket. Especially handy with the high sleeper. Avoids splatter.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 30/01/2020 23:10

And.

Mosquitos hate me 😁

Sumsuch · 30/01/2020 23:14

It's hard to describe, but I can sense what people are like in their hearts. So,people that are really confident, I know what their weaknesses are. I'm not completely sure obviously but it is different with everyone.

Also, I can always get a parking space

cannotmakemymindup · 30/01/2020 23:15

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow
Aww are we twins?? I have so many of the same abilities!!

Great spacial awareness, I have fitted all sorts of chairs and boxes from Ikea over the years in my car plus general furniture and bits n bobs (especially when my sister had a second hand furniture business).

This also means I can reverse in tight spots great. I used to love parking in those really small spots in car parks that everyone drives past, it meant I didn't have to drive around the car park for 10 minutes.

I know how people think, so I'm a great detective and guessing what people are going to say. Used to not be believed by ny husband but now he trusts that I'm right. Although it's one of those ones where I wish often I wasn't correct because its bad news a lot of the time.

Super sensitive smell, such a pain when in normal life as there is lots of stinky yucky things even worse when pregnant, which I am currently.

Finally speed reader and comprehension. My parents never used to believe me so would test me to check that I'd understood what I'd read. If I try to read slower I actually understand less. But that's the idea we don't really read individual words but sentences or even paragraphs at a time.

StinkyWizleteets · 30/01/2020 23:16

I am olfactory girl and I can detect toilet smells through concrete and multiple levels of a building. It’s not a superpower I’m happy with. Farting in a lift kills me.

Wobblie · 30/01/2020 23:16

I can tell the pizza delivery man is here before he rings the bell

Tinty · 30/01/2020 23:17

Yes to the baby small children thing, they all seem to love me. To the point that even if I am not feeling like talking to anyone, a baby will start cooing and smiling at me and their parent will notice and I will have to (fake it), and be all hello baby aren’t you cute and then talk to them whilst they coo and smile at me. It’s a lovely thing but sometimes you just want to buy your shopping and run but small dc and babies always want my attention. Grin

MoonlightMistletoe · 30/01/2020 23:19

I know when I'm going to bump into someone or receive a message when I haven't seen or heard from them for a while.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 30/01/2020 23:21

@OhWellThatsJustGreat Snap! Also, if the battery or charger is "on it's way out" the pitch is higher.

BronteSisters · 30/01/2020 23:24

I can make a blotchy red rash appear on my throat and upper chest just by thinking about it. As superpowers go, it's not really in the higher echelons, but it's all I have!

@spiderlight I have that one too. Although it also appears when I'm addressed by someone in front of other people like in a meeting for example. I've been faking menopause for years making out laughingly that it's hot flashes rather than sheer embarrassment and anxiety at people looking at me.

My superpower is the ability to hang pictures exactly where they should be, in line at the exact distances they should be from each other, even diagonally. When measured after they are put up they are in line almost perfectly to down to the millimetre.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/01/2020 23:24

Yeah, as others have said, smell. I have reported gas leaks on many occasions when no one else could detect anything (even a natural has detector wasn’t triggered). Once the Transco guy with the meter told me the ppm, can’t recall it exactly now, but he said ‘technically there is a gas leak, but I literally cannot believe you could smell it’. Well mate, I could, or else I wouldn’t have called you, would I? Sounds good but I cannot tell you the number of times I have searched for the source of a vile stench when no one around me could smell a thing, thinking I’m nuts. Drives me crazy.

BoxyLoxy · 30/01/2020 23:26

My superpower is despite being very large, I am entirely invisible. Even my emails are invisible.

Graphista · 30/01/2020 23:40

“If I try to read slower I actually understand less.” Totally i get this! It’s like saying a word over repeatedly you lose focus on the meaning, also my mind then wanders to thinking about 3rd and 4th things

I’m another that can soothe the most fractious babies and toddlers including ones with certain conditions that make them usually less likely to “take to” a stranger. But I don’t think a super power in my case just MANY years of caring for babies and toddlers so I’m pretty confident and tantrums, melt downs and panicking children don’t throw me like they would/do others. It’s the “thing” I’m most familiar with so I get weirdly Uber calm in such situations.

Unfortunately didn’t extend to dd but probably because as her mother I felt under more pressure to make it work with her especially as I’ve mostly been a single mum with her and felt and BEEN judged a lot! Which has raised my tension and she’s picked up on.

Also unfortunately it’s led to things like 2am phone calls from desperate family/friends asking me to go over or if they can bring said fractious baby/toddler to me! I generally don’t mind as an occasional thing but a few have taken the piss!

I also tend to get shouted on in baby/toddler emergencies because I can calm them even if they have a finger hanging off or they’re doing a stinking impression of the exorcist!

I can render things invisible by placing them on the stairs to be taken up/put away. Everyone else in the household walks straight past them.

Seemstress · 30/01/2020 23:58

Hyper sensitive to people's body language and facial expressions... I can spot a liar and a wrongun a mile off...

Lindtnotlint · 31/01/2020 00:12

I can wiggle my ears. It’s not very useful.
