[Exciting thread of the day alert]

I really need a new sofa but I cannot decide where to buy from. Any recommendations? Anywhere to specifically avoid?

We got ours from Harveys wasn't cheap but it looks as good now as it did four years ago when we bought it

CochonDinde · 25/01/2020 20:00

Thanks issey theres actually a few nice ones on sale in Harvey's that I've got my eye on but never used them before - useful to know Smile

After a lot of searching we got ours from a local independent. I thought the big chains were much more expensive.

I'd avoid anywhere you can't try them out, I wouldn't buy one online. We looked for ages as it had to be comfortable for both me & DH.

We bought ours from Made about four years ago now and I love it - comfortable and still looks smart. Is wearing better than our previous Next and M&S ones, which got saggy quite quickly.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/01/2020 20:07

EBay. Which probably isn't helpful but the best £20 I've ever spent.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 25/01/2020 20:09

Sofa workshop. Very hardwearing and retained their shape.

Kittywampus · 25/01/2020 20:09

Wayfair. The sofa is nice but the delivery was a nightmare, it took months before we finally got it delivered

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/01/2020 20:09

The shit one I'm sitting on is from Argos, but it did the job when we had to furnish our house. We're waiting on a delivery to replace it from MADE.com 🤗

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/01/2020 20:10

Ikea.

reservoircats · 25/01/2020 20:12

Ours is John Lewis. Spent about £800 I think. It's done very well so far (3 years)

JudgeRindersMinder · 25/01/2020 20:13

Ikea, 2 years old now and still look and feel new. Their interest free credit made them even more attractive lol

Mummy2one2016 · 25/01/2020 20:13

Harveys, lovely comfy sofa.

smeerf · 25/01/2020 20:14

My Made one is comfy and still very perky!

WhichBin · 25/01/2020 20:18

John Lewis too. Loved the selection, colours, customer service and delivery. We had a minor problem with the legs last year (one has a tiny crack) All sorted by their CS very swiftly.

We found DFS and Sofology the same old / same old. Lots of bright colours and uncomfortable sofas. I was just so board in their shops*!

*I may have been bored overall shopping for a sofa, it’s tedious, mind numbing adulting & I hope this sofa lasts 20 years!

Creas35 · 25/01/2020 20:22

Look at the lounge company on Instagram , we purchased ours from one of the stockists local to us, they normally do 20% off deals. There is a massive range to choose from and tons of fabric colours we went for the Holly 3 seater sofa and snug and then We got the box thingy (?) in a different tweedy fabric so it wasn’t samey. I love it , it’s been 3 years now and never get tired of it and so many compliments.

BentNeckLady · 25/01/2020 20:24

Next - the squishy Stamford in red velvet. I love it but next we’re a pain in the arse to order from. It was 6 weeks late.

Growingboys · 25/01/2020 20:25

When we moved we bought one for quite a lot of money from Sofa.com and one for less from Homebase.

Several years on and the sofa.com one looks super smart, hasn't sagged at all, and is the most comfortable thing ever. The Homebase one is an absolute state and will have to be replaced soon.

When we bought another new sofa a few years ago, we went back to sofa.com - worth the money for sure.

ClaudiaNaughton · 25/01/2020 20:26

I’m also looking and would urge anyone to check company name + reviews. Made.com have horrific reviews also Dwell another I looked at.

paddingtonbearsmarmalade · 25/01/2020 20:29

Our first sofa was a secondhand Ikea job. Our current/‘new’ sofa is my mum’s old Ikea one! Both comfy for different reasons, though the “new” one is comfier. I’ve been eyeing up Snugshack sofas & Made sofas for when I’m rich though!

BadEyeBri · 25/01/2020 20:30

We got Alexander & James sofas from a local independent store. They are beautiful looking and really hard wearing. Think 3 large dogs and 7 cats hard wearing Grin

NecklessMumster · 25/01/2020 20:31

Just bought one from JL and ordered another from Laura Ashley as I needed an easy access one to get thro door

Cecilia2016 · 25/01/2020 20:36

Bought ours from scs

NecklessMumster · 25/01/2020 20:41

I wish it was easier to get arm caps though, I know the arms will get grubby soon.

GiantKitten · 25/01/2020 20:46

One Ektorp from Ikea, one Newport from Sofasofa.

Happy with both, & Sofasofa also do arm covers (for loose covers at least, I don’t know about the others).

Quite a long wait for delivery though.

Fish pools. It’s beautiful and worth every penny.
