[Exciting thread of the day alert]

I really need a new sofa but I cannot decide where to buy from. Any recommendations? Anywhere to specifically avoid?

Ikea and I'm really happy with it one year on

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 25/01/2020 20:53

DFS, they get slated a lot but we had no issues and still as good as new 6 years on.

A friend is having a hell of a time with Harvey's just now, soda went missing on day of delivery, now out of stock and the customer service is shocking. Struggling to get a refund and being pressured to order a different sofa. She's big on Instagram and posted her issues and a huge number of people got in touch to say they'd had the same problem.

We have Laura Ashley ones. But they are 15 years old and beginning to look a bit worn although still very comfortable. We were wondering whether it would be worthwhile having new covers made. It took us ages to find sofas that both DH and I liked as we both like different things and can never agree on what is comfortable.

AKAanothername · 25/01/2020 20:55

We replaced ours last year, one came from the Furniture Village clearance page the other two are Natuzzi.

M0reGinPlease · 25/01/2020 20:57

Loaf. It cost a small fortune but I bloody love it.

Twospaniels · 25/01/2020 21:00

Ours is Parker Knoll but bought from a local independent store who beat the price by nearly £1k quoted by a large national store.

Shockers · 25/01/2020 21:05

John Lewis, in both rooms. Two of our sofas are 15 years old (leather- we’ve had the seat pads recovered in a contrasting fabric); the sofa and chair in the other room are 9 years old and have washable covers. Both sets are really comfortable still.

TheCraicDealer · 25/01/2020 21:05

Marks and Spencers- it's the Copenhagen corner sofa. Three years old and still looks great, very comfortable. We got it in a grey chenille and I've managed to wipe quite a lot of baby sick off with a damp cloth with no ill effects.

I've ordered from Made with mixed results. Two marble based lamps which are fabulous, but then I read some really, really poor reviews when we were looking a sideboard. So we got one off Swoon instead (excellent, would recommend). Then I saw a coffee table on Made and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt- I got the couriers to open it before they left and there was a massive gouge out of the corner of the wood which had been badly patched with wood filler. The box was fine so it had obviously happened before it had even been dispatched. They accepted the return with no issue, but four weeks later I had to chase when we STILL hadn't receive the refund. No one had processed it. It would have to be something really unique for me to order from them again.

Sofology. Very good quality, was expensive but totally worth it. They were helpful in the store too. Would recommend.

MacaroniSaysShetlandPony · 25/01/2020 21:36

Recently replaced our ancient (15 years plus) Laura Ashley ones with Loaf sofas. Absolutely divine! Friends have Loaf sofas which take a bit of a battering from 2 Labradors and they inspired us. No regrets!

skippy67 · 25/01/2020 22:21

We bought ours from John Lewis 3 months ago. They're fab...

QueenOfOversharing · 25/01/2020 23:00

FB selling group. It's an enormous white leather Bo Concept L shaped sofa. Got it for £100, with him delivering half of it.

trashcansinatra · 25/01/2020 23:06

We still have an awesome Next sofa from over 20 years ago that's in DS room. Harvey's were great and even swapped a 3 seat for a 2 seat when it wouldn't fit through the door. We gave DFS sofas in main room that I hate but it's not their fault. They are just not that comfortable but look fab.

iknowimcoming · 25/01/2020 23:08

Sofa workshop - it's awful, and the one we have now is a replacement for the original one which was so bad they took it back and gave us another - feckin expensive too, don't recommend at all Sad

Namechange8471 · 25/01/2020 23:15

Scs. Paid £1000 for a massive corner sofa, it’s lasted well.

My advice would be to always get the upgraded cushions, the cheaper ones really lose their shape after a while.

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2020 23:20

Marks & Spencer

It's a leather corner sofa, we've had it for nearly 5 years and it is still in excellent shape.

stophuggingme · 25/01/2020 23:25

I have three sofas one from willow snd hall ebich is lovely at three years old, a same age one from DFS whic is like new
My enormous beloved sofa that has seen windows taken out to move houses with me and to get into the first house is from DFS snd I bought it for £800 in 2007
It is still fantastic quality, incredibly comfortable and structurally sound. I’ve had it reupholstered but that’s it.

Justajot · 25/01/2020 23:27

We are hoping to go to longeatonsofas.com as I haven't seen anything I like anywhere else. Any feedback on them would be great.

InFiveMins · 25/01/2020 23:29

I should have added I also have a leather couch from John Lewis over 5 years old and still great quality, very happy with it

clearingaspaceforthecat · 25/01/2020 23:40

M&S to replace previous M&S one - but quality doesn't seem as good.

HoldMyLobster · 26/01/2020 04:21

West Elm Harmony sofa. I love it - it's the most comfy sofa I've ever had. I think they have West Elm in the UK now? I'm in the US and we didn't pay anything like full price, which helped.

We have quite a few other settees dotted about the house and all of them were secondhand.

LesLavandes · 26/01/2020 04:57

I bought 2 from Habitat recently. They are good qualitu

CrowleysBentley · 26/01/2020 05:15

Dunelm. It looked lovely online and was a bargain price in the sale, but it's bloody uncomfortable, and I'm planning to replace it soon. I'll probably go back to IKEA, our last 2 sofas were from there and were great.

HereForTheHelp · 26/01/2020 05:26

Local independent store, got to design the entire thing myself, down to the fabric shade and texture and the cushion density. Then it took 4 weeks to arrive.
It was SO much cheaper than DFS or any other high street store and they independent store knows our children are disabled and break stuff a lot, so they've given us an extended warranty to replace any part of the sofa for free for 5 years. That means if zips on cushions break, if the frame gets damaged etc, they'll come sort it for free. Couldn't buy that peace of mind imo!
