A thread intended for menus, cats and idle chit-chat.

Cinders you are being bombarded with questions which can be a bit daunting, but I think once you put more information out you'll find people want to help. You'll probably find people are a bit too helpful if anything, they are a resourceful crowd!

Drip feeding yes please, custard in one arm and champagne in the other. Thank you.

GracefulHippo · 28/01/2020 18:08

Not liking homemade custard < horror > . I must have misread it! < looking for reading glasses >.

Cinder, so sorry that you have problems with your DS. I haven’t seen your thread, but it is awful when you worry about children. I read somewhere that you only are as happy as your unhappiest child... I think that is true Flowers

GracefulHippo · 28/01/2020 18:09

CleansUpDragonPoo you have the right idea!

yolofish · 28/01/2020 18:09

the ONLY place custard is acceptable is in trifle.

7Worfs · 28/01/2020 18:14

Just caught up with the thread, now I want custard and rice pudding.

I can’t have any as I’m eating 16:8 and only allowed food 9am to 5pm. Envy

CleansUpDragonPoo · 28/01/2020 18:19

Oh dear @yolofish, not even spooned room temperature straight out the Devon Ambrosia tin? Solid custard sprinkled with cinnamon on a flaky pastry base? Frozen custard on a stick dipped into dark chocolate? Served piping hot over stewed stolen from neighbour's garden windfall apples?

CleansUpDragonPoo · 28/01/2020 18:22

Sorry for you, @7Worfs, about the custard anyway. But rice pudding? No no no.

TheMustressMhor · 28/01/2020 18:32

Oh, I love my own home-made creamed rice pudding.

I think i may of missed it as i got excited and wanted to post 😂

People make their own custard? And theres a pink kind?

Can an absolute disaster in the kitchen (me) make it?

@OVienna i realised i miss your response earlier! So cold feet is a sad watch?

7Worfs · 28/01/2020 18:34

Don’t forget the sprinkle cinnamon on it, it’s the law.

Cindershasoddshoes · 28/01/2020 18:35

Back for custard small talk
After hiding ds thread
I did report it
And was told to hide it
Or change my name

Have been on and off mumsnet for years
Am a bit miffed now

Anyway custard and apple crumble is the best thing
And only muller rice pudding here
And no clotted cream or double cream
Just whipping cream

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 28/01/2020 18:49

They don't sell double cream?

GracefulHippo · 28/01/2020 18:54

Cinders, so sorry to hear that. It must be incredibly painful to post something personal and have people attack you.

It is very nice and friendly here!

TheMustressMhor · 28/01/2020 18:55

BabySharks

Just make a plain white sauce (without salt and pepper, obviously), sweeten it, and add food colouring.

That is how to make pink custard. Or blue custard. Or green custard.

Hmmm not sure about this. But the rest of Mustress's recipes sound wonderful so perhaps it should be given a go? What's wrong with a tin of Devon Ambrosia and a bottle of cochineal for pink custard?

Cinders, you're so right about custard with apple crumble, save the clotted cream for fluffy home made buttermilk scones with homemade raspberry jam!

TheMustressMhor · 28/01/2020 19:33

DragonPoo How would you make pink custard, out of interest?

Ordinary custard powder is just cornflour with vanilla flavouring.

I wandered on to Thread 15 and have posted a couple of times.

I haven't posted on those threads for days.

I felt very, very brave.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 28/01/2020 19:40

How do you make rice pudding?

If you don't include a tin of evaporated milk, is it even rice pudding?

CleansUpDragonPoo · 28/01/2020 19:51

Never really thought about what's in custard powder, TBH! I made a pink trifle for a five year old's birthday, and put several drops of cochineal into a tin of Devon Ambrosia custard until it turned the right shade of pink - pink food colouring's no good as too light against the yellow custard. Put a bit less in the whipped cream to get a nice lighter contrast for the top, and finished off with pink glitter sprinkles. Birthday girl was very happy, as were the parents as they got to drink the sherry.

TheMustressMhor · 28/01/2020 19:51

...and I have abandoned Thread 15 again.

I had forgotten how miserable it made me feel.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 28/01/2020 19:57

Me too, Mustress What was I thinking? Life is too short...

TheMustressMhor · 28/01/2020 19:58

I have hidden it.

Unbelievable that just posting on it for half an hour desperately lowered my mood.

DragonPoo

If you look at a tin of custard powder it states the ingredients.
