Do you miss your iPhone?

My last three phones have been iPhones - and the first two were great. My current one however (a 5SE) has been a bit of a pain since the start (I really wish I'd sorted it before the warranty ran out, but hey ho). It's got to the point now where the battery will be 100% when I leave the house, and then 1% by the time I arrive at work - having listened to music for just 30 mins.

Took it to Apple and they said that I could get a new battery fitted, but it's soon going to be obsolete anyway (thanks for selling it to me 18 months ago Hmm)

So basically, I'm thinking of jumping ship and buying a cheapish phone outright - and I'm looking for others who have made the jump from iPhones. Do you regret it??

And if anyone wants to recommend a phone, I'm looking to spend no more than £350, good battery life, semi-decent camera, good sound (big music/podcast listener!) and no super massive. TIA! Smile

I changed from Iphone to Google Pixel 2. A couple years ago. Its above your price range i think, but cheaper than Iphone. It also comes with free unlimited cloud storage space, so you dont actually need a lot of storage space on your phone.
DH has the Iphone 11 pro and my phone takes better pictures even though its at least 2 years old (the newest model is Pixel 4 I think).
I havent regretted the switch. It was very easy to transfer everything from my old iphone over and the Pixel is just as easy to use.

jessicama · 20/01/2020 18:03

Ah great, thanks @Jeleste - the Google phones have come up a few times... will have a look. Do you listen to music on it at all?

I’m planning to switch to a Samsung when my iPhone dies. I love my iPhone but the appeal for me is that the camera is SO much better on DH’s Samsung.

Also I’m extremely clumsy & I’m hoping it will be more bomb proof.

Jeleste · 20/01/2020 18:14

Yes i listen to spotify mainly.
DH isnt willing to switch because of the music.
He is a DJ and likes listening to his or other DJs mixes without a gap between the songs. He couldn't figure out how to make it work on my phone. It always skips a second when the song changes and it drives him nuts Grin
For me this is not an issue, because i just listen to 'normal' music. Wink

I Joe's from IPhone to a Huawei an do don't miss my iPhone one bit.

DD got an iPhone XR for Christmas and it now infuriates me - you should not have to click 2 buttons at the same time to turn a phone off!

jessicama · 20/01/2020 18:27

Thanks everyone - this is making me feel more positive about the switch!

I guess one other thing I'm concerned about is FaceTime... as so many of my friends/family seem to be iPhone people. I guess there's WhatsApp video though?

Funny, I was just thinking how rubbish my old iPhone was. Right now, my Samsung has 56% battery left after a full day of heavy use. Before I used to have to carry around multiple chargers and cables as there was no way the iPhone battery could last a full 10 hours. It was causing me low-level anxiety every day!

Davros · 20/01/2020 18:42

DH switched a few years ago and couldn't say enough about how great it was. He crawled back to iPhone no more than a year later and would never go back. He does tend to have the latest model. I use an iPhone 8 and love it. If you go much older I don't think you're getting the best out of it

NightsOfCabiria · 20/01/2020 18:47

The problem with iphone is the power needed to use it which is why they suggest you upgrade every year. The iphone 11 is meant to be better but still cant touch Samsung or Huwawai. iphone is virtually unhackable though unlike the orhers.

Sgtmajormummy · 20/01/2020 18:54

DH bought a Samsung S10 for personal use when his company iPhone use became very restricted. He’s not happy.
Camera quality, user friendliness and responsiveness seem to be his main criticisms. He’s a very basic user, though!

Smidge001 · 20/01/2020 19:00

I use Google's "Duo" instead of FaceTime, as it was way more reliable than WhatsApp. But these days WhatsApp seems to be fine so I have started using that too. No issue, just make your friends/family download those apps.

Stroan · 20/01/2020 19:03

Yes, I switched from an iPhone 7 to a Google Pixel 3 and I can't wait to get rid of it.

The photo storage system is awful, I somehow have about 100 automatic albums and can't seem to sort it. websites are often very glitchy, it freezes and the screen flashes. Battery after 10 months is worse than my last iPhone after 2 years.

tanstaafl · 20/01/2020 19:14

Motorola g8 plus.
Well under your budget but don’t let put you off as being ‘cheap’

tanstaafl · 20/01/2020 19:15

Don’t let that

FlowerArranger · 20/01/2020 19:15

Anyone has any experience of this phone - it has very good reviews.

mogloveseggs · 20/01/2020 19:17

Dh has the Motorola g8 plus and loves it

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2020 19:22

I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung S10 last year and sent the S10 back after 3 days as I hated it so much. And don't get me started on Android Auto, it's shocking compared to Apple CarPlay!

PeanuttyButter · 20/01/2020 19:24

iPhones for every smart phone I've had. Made the change to Google pixel 3 a year ago and I will never go back to apple!!

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 20/01/2020 19:27

I switched about 4 years ago to an android phone.. then switched back for my next two, and don't intend to defect again. The android was fine, and some things were better (OK google beats siri hands down), but things like the apps not always being as polished, or being full of adverts, and that it got clogged up and needed to be blanked every six months (again, because the apps aren't as well controlled) just made it a pain.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/01/2020 19:27

DD has gone from an iphone 6s to a samsung galaxy s10 and much prefers it.

I've just gone from a galaxy s9 to a huawei p30 and am really impressed with the camera.

I have an ipad so am not against apple products at all but I think Android has the better phone system/technology.

okiedokieme · 20/01/2020 19:29

I have the same battery issue but just use an external battery pack as the phone is otherwise fine

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 20/01/2020 19:30

Oh, and I tend to keep a phone 2-3 years - I'm on an iphone X that I bought a little after it came out (I never buy the first ones), not needing to upgrade, I reckon it's got at least another year in it still. The old ones get handed down through the family, and are all still going strong (even a 3! which is used by a very young member as a youtube player)

ZenNudist · 20/01/2020 19:31

I have a Samsung galaxy s7. Its great. Dh has the 10. We gave up on iphones ages ago. The battery life is truly shit and I was pissed about the earphone jack as they only did it to sell air pods (personally dont find wireless headphones practical).

I stil have an ipad but I hate my work iphone. Samsung has a back and menu touch button thats so much easier than the swipe

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 20/01/2020 19:32

I just swapped my iPhone 5s for a Pixel 3a at £320 with a Black Friday discount. I really like the simplicity of the iPhone, but could not justify the increasingly steep prices. I had the same issue you had - battery draining at a ridiculous rate. I don't need something high spec, but do like to have a decent camera, and the Pixel is excellent for photos.

The only things I miss are iMessage, as I don't do social media and being able to send photos for free to iPhone users was great. And I have a MacBook, which obviously syncs better with the iPhone for music. However I am probably the last person in the world still listening to downloads rather than Spotify Grin.

ReginaGeorgeous · 20/01/2020 19:32

I did, and I regret it. I have a Sony Xperia. Its a pile of shit. I'll be going back to iPhone when my contract is up.
