Do you miss your iPhone?

My last three phones have been iPhones - and the first two were great. My current one however (a 5SE) has been a bit of a pain since the start (I really wish I'd sorted it before the warranty ran out, but hey ho). It's got to the point now where the battery will be 100% when I leave the house, and then 1% by the time I arrive at work - having listened to music for just 30 mins.

Took it to Apple and they said that I could get a new battery fitted, but it's soon going to be obsolete anyway (thanks for selling it to me 18 months ago Hmm)

So basically, I'm thinking of jumping ship and buying a cheapish phone outright - and I'm looking for others who have made the jump from iPhones. Do you regret it??

And if anyone wants to recommend a phone, I'm looking to spend no more than £350, good battery life, semi-decent camera, good sound (big music/podcast listener!) and no super massive. TIA! Smile

I switched to Samsung 4 phones ago, will never go back to an Iphone.

I had the iPhone 3gs ,then Samsung galaxy 3 , 5 , 7 , 9 . I only change phone every 2 years .

I’ve got the same issue with iPhone SE rapid battery drain. I’ve just had the battery replaced at ismash for £30 and I can now get a day out of it. Saying that it’s just used for WhatsApping and surfing plus online banking . I’m sure if I listened to music or played games etc it wouldn’t be great.

I’m seriously considering going back to Motorola but did object to amount of storage due to all the apps that it comes with and which can’t be deleted. The battery life of my moto was so much better than iPhone even when the latter was brand new

I tried switching to android briefly a couple of years ago and I returned the phone within a few days, I just couldn’t get used to the software at all. Apple really simplify things in a way android just don’t.

Bought moto g8 plus for two reasons, the camera(s) and the large screen. Owning it, the battery life is great , not a heavy video user at all so charge it every 3 or 4 days.
Confess to being ‘weird’ in switching it off at bedtime!
It actually has stereo output from its speakers but obviously they’re small so bear that in mind.
It comes with a clear rubber/plastic cover to protect the side and rear though I got a case from amazon.
Size, very subjective , Currys/carphone warehouse stock them , can only suggest you handle one to help you decide.

You can also throw/drop/ run over /tread on Motorolas because they have gorilla glass which is amazing.

BertieBotts · 21/01/2020 22:03

I would not count on that. One of my Samsungs had gorilla glass 4, it was lovely and shiny and slippery. I dropped it out of my pocket onto cobbles and promptly stepped on it before I realised, it was completely, totally smashed. Never worked again, even the board was fucked up - the worst thing is I have terrible trouble waking up in the mornings, so I have this unkillable alarm app on the phone. The only way you can turn the alarm off is to take a photo. Except the screen was unresponsive and not displaying anything except a single line of green pixels, so I couldn't take a picture. I also couldn't turn it off, because for some reason they make phones now where you can't take the battery out, and this phone doesn't (apparently) have a kill switch, only a reset sequence. It was also fully charged, and not using the screen, wasn't draining at all.

So we just waited until the morning. At 6.40am the alarm started going off, very loud. I managed to get it to snooze a couple of times, not to worry I said to DH, it will time out at some point - which it did - and then the phone apparently didn't know what to do so it reverted to making the loudest and most unholy terrifying broken computer SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEECH you have ever heard in your life. We were half asleep and DS2 was about 2 weeks old sleeping in the bed as well, I nearly leapt out of the bed :o I was all for chucking it out of the window after that (we live on the fourth floor) but DH said that would be dangerous so I stuffed the speaker with blu-tac, wrapped it up in about five blankets and buried it in a cupboard until the battery ran out. I want to get the data off it at some point but I'm scared of accidentally charging it up again.

I'm not allowed phones without a protective case on them now Blush

jessicama · 22/01/2020 14:45

@Tricicorn Interesting! I wonder if it's a problem with some of them... mine also lies to me. Just said it was at 30% - then switched off!

@Urkiddingright This is my concern too... I do like Apple design and simplicity

@tanstaafl That's really helpful thanks. You're right - need to go into a shop and see one for myself. The stereo does appeal... some are just mono which seems upsetting to me!

Hmm I'm still in two minds, but a little more knowledgeable now abouyt my options!

Don't miss mine one bit!

My honor phone has better memory, better camera, more storage, less faff updating for a fraction of the cost!

JohnVirgo · 22/01/2020 15:20

I don't really get the argument regarding storage. I store very little on my phone. I have the lowest storage iPhone and have done for years without issue.

Dandelion1993 · 24/01/2020 09:16

Storage for me is a biggie as I have my work emails ont here, I also blog so have mountains of photos and apps to help with that.

BertieBotts · 26/01/2020 17:22

That rapid battery drain is an issue with lithium ion batteries in general, I had the same thing with a Samsung phone (not the one I smashed). It happens when they've completed the max number of charge cycles or if they have been left to overcharge too many times. Some modern handsets have smart charging to try and combat this a bit, where they know when you usually put it on and off charge so it will only trickle charge for the last bit.

Storage I find I fill mine up with photos and videos of DS2 Blush He is at that very photogenic age!
