Help- cleaner drank my gin!

Hi all,
I’m new to mumsnet, but would really love some advice!

I’ve just signed up to a cleaning company and had my first clean, which I was thrilled about.
Then I noticed that half of my bottle of pink drink has gone!
I only got the bottle given to me as a gift last week from my sister in law.
My Dh doesn’t drink and I have my two ds in the house.
It was the cleaner definitely!
The company have been awful at getting back to me and sent me a poor email saying she said she didn’t drink it Hmm and was too early in the morning.

I feel really gutted and not sure how to move forward or get some sort of justice!!

Our au pair drank our rum.It was an unopened bottle.

was it her first day ?

LauraRo · 20/01/2020 19:53

I did it with a bottle of ouzo with my best mate when I was that age... unfortunately topping it up with water made it turn white...foiled immediately!

MrMeSeeks · 20/01/2020 19:53

Gin is for seasoned gin drinkers, not for teenagers.... vodka, yes, rum, deffo but gin? Nope.

My friends and i drank neat gin as teenagers Hmm

COPPER3 · 20/01/2020 20:02

Hey hun, Actually I think you could possibly be right here. I have had experience of alcoholic people, mainly women and I am afraid that they will not be able to resist alcohol at any time of day, regardless of where they are. I have 3 sons and they didn't have any interest in alcohol until they were nearly 16! Get a new cleaner my love and carry on having trust in your 13 yo boy!

Lovely13 · 20/01/2020 20:07

Having lived with teenage boys and know how they love to experiment, and steal, I’m afraid I would be thinking it was your elder son. Mine did similar. Found bottle long time later in his room. I don’t drink gin, had been in cupboard for ages so not missed. He fessed up, said it tasted disgusting. Didn’t stop him drinking it as older person though.

DollyDaydreamss · 20/01/2020 20:07

I have a 13 year old. I may have a very unusual and strange one but he's young. As in, acts young. He isn't 13 going on 22. He has never had an alcoholic drink in his life and it would be laughable to think of him doing so at this age. Maybe the op has a similar son ? The rest of you clearly own absolutely demon children

OP it was clearly the cleaner. She will have syphoned it off I should think. Just don't have her back

I've had three cleaners in the past and never again. Nobody nicked my gin but they were untrustworthy in other areas

Plumpplums · 20/01/2020 20:08

it never occurred to me to pinch my parents booze , missed a trick there

roisinagusniamh · 20/01/2020 20:09

Lovely13 and teenage girls don't ??😁

messolini9 · 20/01/2020 20:09

O.P i think you will end up having to apologise to your cleaning lady

Grin Grin Grin As if!

@lowlandLucky, OP didn't even have the guts or decency to ask her cleaning lady about it, she took the high-handed but easy route by going straight to the company to denounce the cleaner on zero evidence.
Reasonable & just as your idea of an apology is, it sure as hell isn't going to be forthcoming.

OP also infoms us that she has "managed" (as if it took actual effort, you know, like retaining a physical job does) to get the company to supply her a new cleaner, so any unpleasantness for the OP has been neatly avoided. Sure the ex-cleaner had a few uncomfortable & distressing days about this though.

However, the new cleaner will know all about The Great Gin Debacle - her company will have warned her that they have a volatile & unreasonable customer.

I have teenagers and know of several incidents where alcohol was taken to school in a water bottle and shared around (thankfully not by one of mine but still ones I knew). It’s so common.
I’d honestly spin a tale to your son that you’ve been asked to take the bottle to the police (make sure you hide it) and all family members have to give finger prints too so he needs to tell you now if it’s him so you can stop going to the police. It’s complete fabrication but may make him tell you if it is him. I truly suspect it is. I cannot imagine a cleaner opening a new bottle of gin and taking half of it home with the risk of losing her job.

JamesBlonde1 · 20/01/2020 20:16

Yeah she probably didn't drink it, just bloody decanted some for later on. CF!

messolini9 · 20/01/2020 20:18

Anyway pink gin is rotten and common

best comment of entire thread, @Gaylesy14

dropje · 20/01/2020 20:23

Decanted?

Bizawit · 20/01/2020 20:23

The rest of you clearly own absolutely demon children.

. Shows how little you know about the average teenager! Like the OP, you have a teenager and may better wise up!

Insanelysilver · 20/01/2020 20:25

I wouldn’t have accused the cleaner without proof, what if it wasn’t her, she could have lost her job!
My moneys on your 13 year old although a 7 year old might think pink gin is likely to taste nice like a sugary soft drink.

NarwhalsNarwhals · 20/01/2020 20:25

13 year old me would definitely have had your gin, I used to decant my parents alcohol into plastic bottles and take it down the park to share with my mates to make me look cool long before I was actually that into drinking it myself.

cdtaylornats · 20/01/2020 20:26

My bet would be 13 y.o. pours himself a tumbler of gin, hates it and dumps it in the sink.

messolini9 · 20/01/2020 20:27

The OP has said it was a sealed bottle

Only after not responding to a few PP's asking if the level could have just been lower than she remembered, & then being directly challenged on the point.

Which is odd, given her utter conviction of her cleaner's culpability - you'd think an important detail like that would be mentioned in the initial post, huh?

Rachelerika · 20/01/2020 20:43

So do you by any chance own a tiger?

Help- cleaner drank my gin!
Hinchunup · 20/01/2020 20:52

I have two teenagers and found my bottles of martini(kept for my mother's visits, bacardi, gin, and vodka diluted to pure water. We'd been on a break earlier in the year without them and discovered the crime at Christmas. They both swear that someone snuk into the house and did it(in spite of a party being had)

Mummaof383a · 20/01/2020 20:56

Sorry but if it was the 13 year old who drunk half a bottle of gin he would be in hospital by now !

Bubblegum53 · 20/01/2020 21:00

Even if the cleaner did drink some gin, why are you so bothered?? What kind of justice are you seeking from posting it on MN? If my cleaner did that, I wouldn't even notice, let alone care. I might understand slightly more if they stole a bottle of really expensive champagne. You sound like you have too much time on your hands.

SpaceDinosaur · 20/01/2020 21:04

Pink gin for a 13yr old boy is less likely to me if there's vodka or something less pink available.

...anything it could have been decanted into?

Stumpie222 · 20/01/2020 21:04

Laughing all afternoon at this post!

ClaudiaRoseAitken · 20/01/2020 21:19

13! Sorry it was definitely your son. He's pulling the wool over your eyes. When I was 13 we were all stealing from our parents drink cabinet.
