Help- cleaner drank my gin!

Hi all,
I’m new to mumsnet, but would really love some advice!

I’ve just signed up to a cleaning company and had my first clean, which I was thrilled about.
Then I noticed that half of my bottle of pink drink has gone!
I only got the bottle given to me as a gift last week from my sister in law.
My Dh doesn’t drink and I have my two ds in the house.
It was the cleaner definitely!
The company have been awful at getting back to me and sent me a poor email saying she said she didn’t drink it Hmm and was too early in the morning.

I feel really gutted and not sure how to move forward or get some sort of justice!!

Oh you sweet summer child - that is the best, the most very best, put-down I've EVER heard!Star

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/01/2020 21:28

Thank you @Katinski, it’s one I got from here.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/01/2020 21:30

And it is from Game of Thrones too.

GabsAlot · 19/01/2020 22:33

Youre not wrong to think it might be the cleaner you were wrong to accuse her without proof though

MsTSwift · 19/01/2020 22:39

We had a cleaner that worked her way through a whole bottle of cherry brandy. I only used it to make kit royale and no kids at the time and it wasn’t dh. She said she couldn’t work st Patrick’s day because “she was going on a bender”. At least honest I guess. Only use cleaning companies now with different people with individual cleaners there is always trouble and issues ime.

DillBaby · 19/01/2020 22:48

I’m puzzled by the idea of a cleaner who goes to someone’s house for the first time with an empty bottle in her pocket, intending to decant spirits even though she’s never been there before and has no idea what will be in the house!

The 13yo is a much more likely culprit, sorry OP.

agreed.... it's just plain bizarre to assume it's the Cleaner.. particularly on Day 1 ffs.. Confused Day 2 maybe... Grin

my money's on the kid... Bear

Katinski · 20/01/2020 00:12

gotta be your son or your husband,OP. Take your pick.

Pogo87 · 20/01/2020 00:42

There is no way a 13 year old could drink it all in one go. Gin has a distinctive smel... If he was drinking over a few days I think someone would have noticed.

Did you see the cleaner leave? Firstly I'd be interested to see if they got in a car abd secondly you'd know if they rank half a bottle of gin... Being they couldn't walk properly.

Could it have been an accident... Like DS opened ut yo try and dropped the bottle on your side grabbed it quickly then put back? Or the cleaner could have done this!

Odd though.. If your DS is adament then I'd get another cleaner..it would ruffle me up I mean if they opened one of your bottles whose to say what else they've done? Tried on your clothes Confused

BumbleBeee69 · 20/01/2020 00:53

I don't believe anyone is suggesting that a 13 year old.. drank the Pink Gin.. the same day ...... the possibility/suggestion is he TOOK it... it could be anywhere in a plastic bottle waiting for that golden opportunity to share it... whenever that might be... Grin

Pogo87 · 20/01/2020 00:59

That could be a good activity for OP... Gin hunt in DS bedroom... Prize is free sample 😂😂Grin

PixieDustt · 20/01/2020 01:03

I'm 80% certain it was your DS.
He knew a cleaner was coming that you haven't used before.
Took the gin. Knew she would get the blame.
Guzzle Guzzle.
If there is sick in the toilet from him drinking all your pink gin please don't blame your new cleaner.

BumbleBeee69 · 20/01/2020 01:03

I enjoy a nicely chilled Sloe Gin personally Grin

popsydoodle4444 · 20/01/2020 01:16

If the OP is using a cleaning company she might not even get the same cleaner each week. Some cleaning companies turn a blind eye to the cleaners transgressions as staff turnover can be a nightmare.Potentially the cleaner could be a cheeky sod and have decanted it into another bottle to take home thinking that if it in a cupboard it might not be noticed straight away.

Or it could be the 13 year old decanting it to have a cheeky swig or 2 with his mates. My friend use to have to lock her alcohol away from her teens especially her son as he was a sod for swiping it.

Justsaynonow · 20/01/2020 01:56

@cricketmum84 I did this too - nearly gave me a heart attack. Funniest part was many years later going into parents' liquor cabinet and finding the same bottle with thick white sediment on the bottom Grin

Katinski · 20/01/2020 12:06

@BumbleBee-plastic bottle? Novice! Best practice is to decant into a coffee jar or similar wide necked jar...easier for adding mixers and swiggabilityGrin

LochJessMonster · 20/01/2020 12:09

Your son needs to learn that if you take your parents alcohol you must top up the bottle with water.

My parents definitely didn't notice that all their Bacardi tasted very weak... Blush

BendyLikeBeckham · 20/01/2020 12:56

@MaisWeee Have you considered that the cleaner thought you'd left the fiver on the side as a tip for her? That seems entirely possible to me.

@BumbleBeee69 I was going to say just that. OP, a quick search of his room while he is in school will most likely give you the answer and you'll quite possibly uncover his stash of fags, booze, and condoms

SageRosemary · 20/01/2020 13:03

PINK - that is your answer, the 7 year old poured himself a nice big glass - and then poured it down the sink, yuck! It's the same colour as lemonade.

Katinski · 20/01/2020 13:15

@BendyLikeBeckham - and mags the boys share aroundShock
For this reason I always gave my son fair warning, like "I'm going to clean your room tomorrow"WinkGrin

BendyLikeBeckham · 20/01/2020 16:14

@Katinski that was back in my youth, nowadays it's all free online!!

Spriggy · 20/01/2020 17:33

Who’s to says the cleaner didn’t bring an empty bottle and fill it with the gin.maybe she’s done it before

mags2024 · 20/01/2020 17:34

Buy a tantalis!

SuperMeerkat · 20/01/2020 17:39

It was the 13 year old, come on @kayde12 don’t be silly. Why on earth would the cleaner risk her job and reputation to get pissed on half a bottle of gin. I’d be absolutely paralytic 🍸 😂

DowntownAbby · 20/01/2020 17:44

You'd be crap at Cluedo, OP.

It was the 13yo.
