It can't be a mixing bowl rester thing otherwise they'd have them on Bake Off.

Bluntness100 · 17/01/2020 22:33

If it's for a mixing bowl it's bonkers but would explain why there is a mixing bowl on the work surface...

Iwantacookie · 17/01/2020 22:39

Why would you want a hip basher to put a bowl in stop it spinning when some of the black squishy stuff underneath the bowl does the same job but without requiring surgery? Confused

GlamGiraffe · 17/01/2020 22:54

If it's a bowl holder it wins the prize for the most stupid invention ever!

It needs the exact correct sized bowls.
It ignored most people have electric mixers
Most people mix with a bowl tilted to the side and not directly in front of them -more to one side than the other.
Instead if a cloth under a bowl if you need it to he anti slip, someone is suggesting you risk concussing, then blinding your offspring, chipping your hip bones and causing internal bleeding.

The designer has obviously never used a kitchen in their life.
The word chainsaw springs to mind!!!😈

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 17/01/2020 22:56

But but but ... if it was for holding a mixing bowl, surely the bowl would be IN it, rather than on top of the worktop. Ha!
It's quite a shallow arc, and no lip, so it's not like you can put anything in it and leave it there.

I detect a man with a router who wanted to show off I'm not showing this to DH

AwdBovril · 17/01/2020 23:13

It's for revenge on argumentative husbands. Especially if they're of the tall variety.

Duckyneedsaclean · 17/01/2020 23:15

It's on a kitchen full of extra pointy bits to bang into (see table)

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 17/01/2020 23:22

I know!

It’s for when my son asks (for the 97th time since 3pm) “what’s for dinner?”

And I usually say “a run around the table and a poke with pointy stick”

Except If I had this table I could say “a run around the table and a serious head injury”

No?

PickAChew · 17/01/2020 23:25

Belly rest.

Mine would sit on it quite happily, taking the weight off my feet.

GabsAlot · 17/01/2020 23:29

it cant be for a bowl its not got enough grip

SingingSands · 17/01/2020 23:30

I don't know what that is, but it'll have someone's eye out. Someone about 4 foot tall that is...

MaisWeee · 17/01/2020 23:54

I must be the only one who sort of hoists a bowl under my oxter and whisks.
Personally I think it's a decapitator. Stick unruly child's neck into the groove and then off with their head. I bet the Queen has one.

noodlezoodle · 18/01/2020 00:35

As pp said, it is for sliding chopped ingredients directly onto a plate or into a bowl - BUT I think they've set it up wrong. Instead of it sticking out over the side, I think it's supposed to be pushed back so that you can rest the plate on the work surface and sweep things off the board into it.

Like this: www.amazon.com/Salabar-original-picnics-hardwood-surface-gentle/dp/B07J2JQBRH?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 and this: finoak.com/products/SKU1446-Bamboo-Chopping-Board-and-Plate

If you look at OP's picture you can see that the curved part is much shallower than the overall board.

I realise I'm massively overinvested in this but it was driving me mad so I had to find out Grin

EBearhug · 18/01/2020 01:53

It's clearly a marketing gadget to get everyone talking and visiting the shop.

AlCalavicci · 18/01/2020 02:57

@noodlezoodle
At $30 for a chopping board they can keep it !
I also can not see how it would be useful as a bowl holder, if I am whisking something I would hold the bold at a angle and if I am mixing something like bread / pastry I need to see what I am doing , if I use my belly to hold the bowl in place my tits will block the view ! ConfusedBlush

woooooo · 18/01/2020 03:41

For the love of all things holy, it's 3.40am and now I'm googling 'strange things built into kitchen worktops' 🤦🏼‍♀️

sashh · 18/01/2020 04:58

DH is a kitchen designer and he says it's for resting the bowl in and mixing it so that it doesn't move around - someone up thread suggested that too

Silly me, I just use a damp cloth under the base.

Either that or 'The pontefract Impaler' has moved into kitchen design. Watch out for licorice, he used that to lure his victims.

GoldenKelpie · 18/01/2020 08:05

noodlezoodle, those links confirm it to me. Yes I can now see how it works and, true, it does make it a bit easier to scrape chopped stuff into a plate held below, but otherwise it's a hazard. I can see whole family banging into it one way or another. For that reason, it's a huge no no from me.

JollyAndBright · 18/01/2020 08:15

That definitely looks like a large removable chopping board/work station.

I used to have one similar but rarely used it (because it was so big and heavy we had to store it in the garage and it was a pain to carry back and forth)

Qcng · 18/01/2020 08:16

But... But, surely no one chops stuff directly on their kitchen surface?
You use a chopping board right? The kitchen surface will smell like garlic forever using something like that!

Or... Are you supposed to use a chopping board, then slide whatever it is you've chopped OFF the chopping board then onto the strange thing, to slide it onto a plate?

This is giving me a headache...

Qcng · 18/01/2020 08:21

Ah, so the whole surface is removable? You'd have to wash it in the garden or something.

If you can rest your hip bones on the points and your belly can manage to squidge into the curve, you can made cake - if not, it's over to the salad drawer for you then fatty?

Growingboys · 18/01/2020 08:35

Place marking as I need to know the answer.

Your kitchen worktop is just under your boobs @Cheesetrapped - how tall are you?! Mine comes to my waist and I'm 5'6".

Best comment goes to you @APatchyTomCat 😂😂
