Is there an end of party song in England??

I'm English, moved to Scotland in my teens.

OBVIOUSLY if you've ever been to a party in Scotland, you'll know that it is the law that the last song played must be Loch Lomond. If you breach this you get sent to jail and forbidden from entering Scotland for 1000 years.

Anyway, is there an English equivalent? Or Welsh or Irish for that matter!

Usually New York, New York or Mr Brightside! Almost every wedding I've been to ends with New York, New York (including mine) and I hate it!

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 16/01/2020 19:53

Not sure it's an official song but I've heard "Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners played quite often as a last song.

willothewispa · 16/01/2020 19:53

really? I've never heard of either of those songs!

NicelyStarched · 16/01/2020 19:53

Some places in Ireland close things off with the National Anthem Grin

Chochito · 16/01/2020 19:54

New York, New York

StoorieHoose · 16/01/2020 19:54

I'm Scottish and hate having to listen to Loch Lomond at the end of the night

we finished our wedding with Mr Brightside

willothewispa · 16/01/2020 19:54

Xposted, I've heard come on Eileen of course.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2020 19:55

The Irish one is often the national anthem. When you hear that you know it's a signal that it's time to leave.

I don't remember there being an English equivalent.

PrincessSloth · 16/01/2020 19:55

New York New York? That's really really random!

I thought I had a a distant memory of Sweet Caroline?

Shock after 23 years in Scotland and I have NEVER heard a Scottish person say they hate Loch Lomond

In the 70s it was HiHo Silver Lining. I've no idea what it is now.

It's a little - known ancient law which was superceded by EU regulations sometime around the millennium that a Scottish wedding isn't legally binding unless everyone gathers on the dance floor at the end of the night, forming a large circle, arms around the waist of your neighbour and taking part in group singing.

The Bonnie banks of Loch Lomond is a good one, but I've also heard Caledonia, 500 miles and Galway girl.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 16/01/2020 19:58

Oh come on, it's obviously Don't Stop Me Now by Queen. Starts off as a dancefest, by the end everyone is hugging and swaying. Perfect way to end the night.

TreesSandSea · 16/01/2020 19:58

Come on Eileen

Onemorewonthurt · 16/01/2020 19:59

The killers Mr brightside or Oasis don't look back in anger!

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/01/2020 19:59

I’d have gone swing low sweet chariot or Take Me Hoooooome Country Roooooooads, to the plaaaaaaace where I BELOOOOOOOONG

DilysMoon · 16/01/2020 19:59

Would say New York New York or Robbie Williams Angel's.... although I haven't been to a party for a long time Blush

Huntlybyelection · 16/01/2020 20:00

DH told me that a nightclub in Dublin used to play the national anthem at the end of the night.

I am Scottish and love Loch Lomond and the rushing in and out of a circle.

No idea about other End Of the Night songs though.

I'm considering the walk back down the aisle after the ceromony to 500 miles. If Scotland ever go independant, it should be the national anthem.

No, there isn’t a song in particular.

blibblibs · 16/01/2020 20:00

We're Scottish, got married in Scotland and finished the wedding with Flying without wings by Westlife!
Didn't get chucked out or anything although we did have a traditional folk singer for some of the evening, maybe that's why we got let off Grin

PrincessSloth · 16/01/2020 20:02

When I was a student in the early 1990s, it was “Everything I Do” from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/01/2020 20:03

Like a Rolling Stone (ah Dylan concerts... you know it isn’t over until he breaks that one out...)
