Have you got a 'Happy Place'?

Following a convo today, friend of mine described 'a warm sunny day in a field, smelling the grass etc..' achievable 'happy place' .

Mines more wishful I think, 'if I had a few million quid, buy the perfect house, decorate it in my mind, stables, horses for the DC, cinema room,.... '

Immediate 'de-stesser' was go to films...randomly both Harry Potter- read the books, not a big fan of the films, but possibly the music, fantasy thing, just a 'take away' film...

Have you got mind 'go to' that just makes you feel better?

Mine is a real place - the Gulf Coast beaches near Sarasota in Florida. We go most years, and every time, I lie back and soak in the feel of the sand, the sounds of the ocean and the seabirds, and keep it for cold, rainy days in the UK in January!

When I can't sleep, am stressing etc I think about our camping trips in the summer to Llyn gwynant camp site in Snowdonia. It's just perfect. No mobile signal within 10 miles, beautiful dramatic scenery, a river and lake for my family to swim, canoe etc. I feel like it's where my heart is happiest despite me traveling to unknown other countries. So yeah, that's my happy place that I go to in real life and in my head.

...thinking I need to find a 'real life' happy place...! Both sound amazing

l've got a few. One is about 5 miles away which is very useful when I need a pick me up.

Haggisfish · 15/01/2020 20:21

Yes a few. One is floating in a lagoon in Egypt twenty years ago thinking ‘this is my happy place’; a lake in Snowdonia where I sunbathed on rocks with my mum and remembering any and all snuggly hugs with dc!

My bed! Grin

My bedroom is so cosy and warm and comfortable.

I have a big tv, books, black out blinds and curtains and lovely comfy bedding.

After a stressful day I love going upstairs and switching off from everything outside that door.

I also love sleep very much which helps Grin

Any beach, any coastal walk, where there is a bit of sun and few humans.

iklboo · 15/01/2020 20:26

Real life - any woods, park with trees or forest.

Pretend - locked in a very dark box.

Bluewavescrashing · 15/01/2020 20:27

My happy place is a beach in Cornwall. I imagine the waves, the solitude (we always went in low season). It helps calm me down.

managedmis · 15/01/2020 20:29

I have a place but I'm not telling you where it is! Grin

Also have a lot of happy 'situations' that I imagine - which mostly involve sleeping with hot men

Bombaybunty · 15/01/2020 20:31

Mine is a small town in the French Alps. I feel calm as we approach it, every time. Our plan is to move there eventually.

Sarcelle · 15/01/2020 20:32

I like to sit near a rock that looks like a bear looking out to sea. It is south of St Ives in Cornwall, on the cliffs. If I want to feel calm, that is where my mind goes.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/01/2020 20:32

Anywhere by the sea really. I love the sea so much.
Thankfully I live close to the sea so I get to enjoy it all the time.
A couple of weekends ago, that was Southend-On-Sea. Not everyone's cup of tea but wow, it was amazing. Sun, sea, pie, glorious sunset....

Peak District and Lake District and whitby are other places. And the Isle of Wight.

Haggisfish · 15/01/2020 20:33

Oh I also went for a type of water massage in bath called watsu and it was utterly
AMAZING.

longhaulstress · 15/01/2020 20:34

My Places are the Scottish highlands and Treaddur Bay and Rhosneiger in Anglesey.

Rockbird · 15/01/2020 20:37

Cornwall, Ireland and the Isle of Wight. My selected parts are all very similar in landscape and feel.

dementedma · 15/01/2020 20:38

Any beach but the best one is Luskentyre on Harris.

Whynosnowyet · 15/01/2020 20:39

Across my road on the beach - collecting bag fulls of rocks and drift wood with which as yet I have had no time to do bloody anything with!!

SomewhereNow · 15/01/2020 20:46

Anywhere by the sea but especially the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

My bed - agree with everything @greeentopmilk says!

Hogwarts 😂

kjhkj · 15/01/2020 20:49

Mine is disney world florida. I hate rides, I hate people/crowds and I hate flying but we've had many lovely times there and so it's filled with a feeling of complete happy memories for me.

MuchTooTired · 15/01/2020 20:51

Mine’s a place in Devon. I’m not 100% sure where it is, we found it by accident when going for a picnic. It was a beautiful place with waterfalls you cross over to get to, and we had our meal reheated over the gas stove next to the slowly flowing river/stream which we could’ve gone paddling in if we’d wanted to.

When I had my spinal for my section that’s where my mind headed.

Taddda · 15/01/2020 20:56

@SomewhereNow dont knock my happy Hogwarts! It's my place of magic....

(I definitely need to find a beach, or go on bloody holiday....!)

Like the sound of the 'Watsu water massage)

Morfa Nefyn in north Wales. Utterly beautiful. So many happy memories there. Great views, lovely walks, just ideal to relax. I go there in my head a lot.

firesong · 15/01/2020 21:01

By the sea, yep...

But years ago, I had hypnotherapy and was asked to describe a safe happy place to which I would "go" during the therapy. It wasn't by the sea at all, instead somewhere I've never been, as far as I recall. There's a field with swings to the side, and a country path with big cornfields. It's early evening in summer, a few people milling about (a farmer in a field, a small girl on a swing). Thinking about it now, I get a strange ache inside.

Yorkshiredolls · 15/01/2020 21:03

A lot of people are mentioning Wales! Mine is also in Wales, Newborough beach in Anglesey. It’s stunning and my favourite place in the world
