Have you got a 'Happy Place'?

Taddda · 15/01/2020 19:39

Following a convo today, friend of mine described 'a warm sunny day in a field, smelling the grass etc..' achievable 'happy place' .

Mines more wishful I think, 'if I had a few million quid, buy the perfect house, decorate it in my mind, stables, horses for the DC, cinema room,.... '

Immediate 'de-stesser' was go to films...randomly both Harry Potter- read the books, not a big fan of the films, but possibly the music, fantasy thing, just a 'take away' film...

Have you got mind 'go to' that just makes you feel better?

Used to love lazing in my pool in Florida but now I don’t have the house anymore, I think waking up in my caravan, opening my curtains and looking out onto green fields and trees is pretty amazing..and I get to do it..3-4 days a week..not just a couple of times a year.
Second my bed..both of them..

A particular coastal walk in South Dublin. With views to Snowdonia on a very clear day.

I've never not been content walking and looking at that view.

Dowser · 15/01/2020 21:08

Snowdonia is very special..it’s high and dramatic bit we have some stunning scenery in N Yorks..the howardian hills for example and just an hour down the road too

My happy place is with the hubby, kids and dog walking along the beach at St.Annes, Lancashire. Sunshine, windy, rain or snow. Love it there, it's definitely our happy place.

Witchofzog · 15/01/2020 21:12

Lydstep beach near Tenby. It's actually got a great big caravan park behind it but if you look out to sea it's just beautiful. I remember it being my happy place as a child and I loved it just as much when I went back as an adult.

Oh and St Thomas beach on Rhodes. Most of Greece is my happy place

I have a few - a coastal area a few miles away from home, an historic town a little way away and more recently Blackpool (or more specifically the Tower ballroom).

I need to set the bar higher Grin saw your title and thought coffee shop, child free with a good book 👌🏾

Smellbellina · 15/01/2020 21:20

Yes, my best ever nap when I was in Corfu 20 years ago. Bliss.

Izabela86 · 15/01/2020 21:21

By the sea is the answer! Especially in Ireland. It’s a shame I live in London though 😔

It’s amazing how many people love the sea (just reading other posts), it’s just so calming. I struggle with anxiety and always think that it would be impossible (for me) to get a panic/anxiety attack if I was by the sea! Smile

Ceefax101 · 15/01/2020 21:21

Top floor of a premier inn in Manchester. 😁 I have a night there on my own every so often.

ShootTheRunner · 15/01/2020 21:25

@Yorkshiredolls mine too! I wish I could go more than a couple of times a year. Just the most perfect place.

TheresWaldo · 15/01/2020 21:27

By the sea where I used to live. Breakfast on the pier. Throwing pebbles in the sea. Hot milky coffee in a café. Fish and chips. Pot of whelks.

HerRoyalNotness · 15/01/2020 21:27

A small bay on the other side of the world that my family had had a shack at for at least 50years. In hate that my DC can’t spend their summers there having freedom and fun on the beach.

CMOTDibbler · 15/01/2020 21:33

Mines a very specific memory from when I was a teen, sitting on the landing stage of the rowing club on a summers day, light dappling through the willows, sound of the water lapping against the wood, warm sun on my skin. Its an incredibly relaxing memory I use for pain relief etc

The Hotel Chocolat shop in Cambridge with the proper cafe attached, I love going there.

Anywhere that sells make-up, Harry Potter or Pusheen stuff.

The Platform 9 3/4 shop at Kings's Cross (and King's Cross in general.)

The Westfield shopping centre in London.

Any Evanescence gig I've been to.

Herstmonceux Castle (specifically when it's pretending to be a magic school.)

Closer to home and more everyday, anywhere where my FWB is. Blush

We have a holiday flat, a big 2 storey loft style studio in the attics of an old building in a busy tourist town. It’s huge and minimalist with very comfy settees and bed, set high above a main road. I love to sit there in the evenings with the candles lit listening to the distant hubbub in the streets below and knowing I’ve got nowhere to go and nothing to do but read and relax.

TheBigFatMermaid · 15/01/2020 21:50

Beach, 10 minute drive away! Sewing machine, looking at it now, Lynmouth, 16 miles away, so have to wait for DP to drive me!

BOOKS! Always there to lose myself in!

ScribblyGum · 15/01/2020 21:51

The coastal footpath on the Lleyn peninsula between Porth Oer and Uwchmynydd.

fantasmasgoria1 · 15/01/2020 21:55

Whitby. I love it there! I love the views, the beauty of the place, people are so friendly, it's quaint, clean and tidy, cobbled streets, just lovely! I'm also happy when I am with my fiance so wherever he is is sort of my happy place!

TheSandman · 15/01/2020 21:57

Happy Place = Bed + Book

TrainspottingWelsh · 15/01/2020 21:59

Watching the horses/ being around them. Preferably sat in the field. If I'm really hyped up when I know I need to sleep, even opening the bedroom window and watching them for a bit is enough to relax me.

Away from home, then ideally secluded countryside. Preferably moors/ national parks rather than arable farms. Then again I find deserts quite relaxing. If all else fails, a decent size park is better than nothing. Hyde park is the only reason I can tolerate a trip to London without feeling claustrophobic.

Cornwall

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 15/01/2020 22:06

Derwentwater. Specifically Hawes End.
However I don't get up there very often any more, any open space is good for me, beach, woods or mountains

borage13 · 15/01/2020 22:08

Two places near me; Brighton and Hever Castle. Hever for when I used to go with my little boy when he was a baby; Brighton to be my weird little self with the beach and the Laines and being near my grandfather and memories of him.

FruityWidow · 15/01/2020 22:12

When I've just arrived at a festival having walked miles from the car parks with a heavy rucksack which I throw onto the floor. I can hear bass coming from soundcheck on the stages and smell burnt chicken and weed on the air. I crack open a can and start putting up the tent. Bliss.
