If so, heads up (probably everyone knows this and I'm late to the party!!)

Go online to your account, click to cancel, and it will redirect you to a page where it will then offer you three months at 3.99 instead of 7.99. Cracking!

Happy to stay a while longer at that price (moves calendar reminder to cancel TO April)

Oh Thank you I was going to cancel but hadn't got round to it so that's a fab deal

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/01/2020 20:00

You are welcome.

Massive thanks OP have just done this and will probably cancel thereafter as I don't get enough use.

Can anyone recommend ones were the voice is enjoyable to listen to?

I did Northern Lights and the general voice wasn't bad but the "acting voices" for the characters were diabolical

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/01/2020 20:09

I've just done book1 of Northern Lights and yeah found Lyra especially very whiney. I've not started book2 yet.

The Harry Potters are great with Stephen Fry.

I really enjoyed the sound of the voices on "Girl on the Train".

I enjoyed Poirots Finest cases and More of Poirots Finest Cases, The Forsytes and The Cazalet chronicles.

carrie74 · 15/01/2020 20:12

I'm just about to finish Tiny Sunbirds Far Away, narrated by Adjoa Andoh, it's been a complete delight to listen to, and I realised I'd also listened to her narration of Americanah, which was also a fantastic listen. I'm definitely tempted to listen to more of 'her' books on the back of these two, her Nigerian character voices were wonderful.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/01/2020 20:13

I got so annoyed I googled.

Lyra is an adult woman putting on a child's voice which is why it is so bad.

I don't think I can sit through the other two. I'll have to read them the standard way.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/01/2020 20:14

Oh I've read Tiny Sunbirds! Loved it

TreacherousPissFlap · 15/01/2020 20:24

einereise I've just started Northern Lights having started with La Belle Sauvage. I'm incensed with the voices, and if you're an Archers fan you'll never be able to listen to Mrs Coulter without hearing Elizabeth Pargetter

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 15/01/2020 20:27

Wow, thanks OP, was going to cancel too but will hang on now!

Lionsleepstonight · 15/01/2020 20:28

Another tip, if you dont like a book you can return it and get your credit back.

PotholePalace · 15/01/2020 20:30

Thanks, was also planning on cancelling soon anyway. Will make the most of the next 3 months. I enjoy the podcasts at least as much as the books.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 15/01/2020 20:33

Yes! When Mrs Coulter is being evil, all I can think of is Elizabeth shagging Roy in a tent at the cider festival.

Namestranger · 15/01/2020 20:33

I once had to phone them up and the customer service adviser said id clocked up more hours on it than anyone's account she'd look at the whole time she'd worked there. Hate to think how much it's cost me!!

Try anything narrated by Fennella Woolgar, Gerri Halligan, Joanne Froggat, Penelope Rawlins, Caroline Lennon and deffo have a go at the Aisling books by Sarah Green and Emer Mclysaght, they're so funny. Dawn O'Porters are fab too. And Adele Parka. Louis Therouxs book (read by him) is great. Enjoying Book of The Year by No Such Thing As A Fish too.

Namestranger · 15/01/2020 20:34

Breen*

Namestranger · 15/01/2020 20:35

And the Anthony Horowitz detective series and the Maeve Kerrigan series by Jane Casey Xmas Blush I'll stop now!

fairydustandpixies · 15/01/2020 20:37

Where I live, the county library service have a service where they issue you with a number that you can use on their online service to download ebooks and audio books for free. It's fab!

user1471533725 · 15/01/2020 20:39

I've just clicked to cancel and its come up with a message saying that I'll lose my credits and benefits. Bit nervous about pressing 'no thanks, continue to cancelling' as I dont actually want to cancel and lose them! Does the page come up after this??

Khione · 15/01/2020 20:41

Also works with kindle unlimited - get that at 2.99 for 3 months.

As far as audible is concerned I have now cancelled fully. Whilst their prices are ridiculous, if you buy the kindle edition you can often get the audible for around a fiver, meaning the two together are cheaper than to simply buy the audible one.

QuillBill · 15/01/2020 20:41

That's just what no was going to say User!

ByeMF · 15/01/2020 20:41

The Sherlock Holmes series read by Stephen Fry is just lovely (although jaw droppingly racist at times).

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/01/2020 20:41

Yes. I was worried similarly, but it worked!

eatthepineapple · 15/01/2020 20:43

I also borrow audiobooks from the library for free - it's great! Sometimes have to wait for certain ones but there is always something good available!

TreacherousPissFlap · 15/01/2020 20:44

elizabeth - thanks sooo much for that

OhioOhioOhio · 15/01/2020 20:45

Omg. How long before the expiry of an awful book being returned?
