Doing a drinks party next week. I can only think of the following

Quails eggs and celery salt
smoked salmon and blinis

I could be looking up ideas online (and I am) but I like chatting on MN, so ideas gratefully received!

Medjool dates stuffed with Stilton and wrapped in pancetta.
Deviled eggs

wowfudge · 11/01/2020 07:59

Devils on horseback.

Omg. I am OBSESSED with canapés. My favourite part of any event. You’ve already got two of my all-time faves on there. My rules are that they can be eaten one-handed and in a mouthful, nothing too messy or convoluted.
I love these:
Prunes wrapped in bacon baked in the oven
Cocktail sausages with honey mustard glaze
Little toasts with goats cheese and a slice of fresh fig, or blue cheese and fig
Thai prawn skewers with sweet chilli dip
Toasted brioche with foie gras or other pate and a bit of chutney
Cocktail sticks with half a cherry tomato, a mini mozzarella ball, a basil leaf and a pesto dip or pesto glaze
I could go on forever

@Finfintytint Medjool dates stuffed with Stilton and wrapped in pancetta.
I actually salivated just then

A current fave is asparagus wrapped in proscuttio and pan fried. absolutely gorgeous.

Not sure if you want things like dip- I recently had a drinks party and made a hot artichoke and spinach dip that everyone asks for recipe for-happy to send it if you want that type of thing?

LaMarschallin · 11/01/2020 08:04

A fallback for me is getting a sliced white loaf, cutting the crusts off, buttering each slice on both sides, then cutting the slices into quarters.

I press those into a muffin tin and bake at 180C for 10 minutes.

They make lovely little baskets for things like coronation chicken or smoked mackerel flaked and mixed with mayonnaise and horse radish sauce, for example.

Mini cheese scones with cream cheese and chilli jam are nice too.

Hope it goes well - cheers 🥂

2MapleMuffins · 11/01/2020 08:05

Oh yes please mum. I havr read of artichoke and spinach dips in American novels and it always intrigued me!

Like minds wine I was literally just thinking of those and realsing i finally! had an excuse to buy them!!

Are they meant to be heated?

OP posts:
Doubleraspberry · 11/01/2020 08:11

Mini Yorkshires with a tiny bit of rare beef and horseradish. Or a slice of sausage and drizzle of gravy.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 11/01/2020 08:14

I’ve never heated them.

I also do slices Of Brie with cranberry sauce on top - last minute tho as cranberry sauce can run.

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/01/2020 08:15

Anything with cheese!

Peppadew peppers filled with soft goats cheese garnished with chives.
Cocktail stick of feta cube, watermelon cube and a mint leaf.
Crostini with goats cheese.
Prunes stuffed with blue cheese.
Halloumi sticks wrapped in pancetta and fried.
Strong Cheddar and a pineapple cube on a cocktail stick.

AdaColeman · 11/01/2020 08:17

Blinis with sour cream/cream cheese and a blob of lumpfish caviar.

Cheese straws.

Anchovy twists made with Gentleman’s Relish, pesto twists are good too.

2MapleMuffins · 11/01/2020 08:18

Mini Peking duck pancakes (the ones with hoisin, cucumber and spring onion).

ArtichokeAardvark · 11/01/2020 08:26

'Homemade' smoked salmon pate on oatcakes. Buy precooked salmon fillets, mash up in a bowl with lots of mayo, finely chopped parsley, pepper and lemon juice. Generous blob on a mini oatcake. ALWAYS go down well.

Cocktail sausages cooked in honey and grainy mustard.

Mini Yorkshire puddings with a sliver of roast beef and horseradish.

Dates wrapped in bacon and pan fried.

Atalune · 11/01/2020 08:26

Little crostini’s with
Tapenade on top
Mackerel pate with capers on top
Smoked salmon pate with capers on top

Tiny button mushrooms roasted stuffed with Stilton on cocktail sticks

Blue cheese stuffed queen olives

Doubleraspberry · 11/01/2020 08:27

Mini homemade sausage rolls with a really nice filling - I use a pork, black pudding and prune mix.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/01/2020 08:38

Funny you should say that @2MapleMuffins this is from an American friend. Some adjustments required. I used tinned artichoke hearts- think 4 tins- and chopped them up very small. I tend to have a heavy hand for cheese etc

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/01/2020 08:41

*forgot to add-as recipe assumes certain dip knowledge-warm it all on top of stove and stir til very warm and combined. My friend who gave me recipe serves in tiny crock pot to keep warm but I just put it out as am not that organised.you could always put out small portions and keep the rest warming but I just put it out and it got eaten before it got cold Crown Smile

Oh sigh mum. That really looks delicious. Thank you!

Vol au vents (old school)

LilyTheSavage · 11/01/2020 08:47

This is a brilliant thread and has made me feel really hungry. Thanks OP.

If I am doing anything like pate or similar, I make it the day before and put it in a big piping bag in the fridge with a bag clip over the end so that it's ready to pipe onto the bottoms. It looks much tidier and is so much quicker to make the canapé.
Some delicious ideas from PP.
