What kind of house do you live in?

I love thinking about how different we all are and was wondering what your home are like.
I’ll start... I’m in a regional town on the coast in NSW. My house is two storey, 4 bedroom lounge, dining, kitchen all beds upstairs.
Built about 30 years ago so cosmetically dated but extremely comfortable. We rent because we missed the housing boom.

1880's inner London terrace, ours is one of a few double fronted ones on our street. Three storeys inc basement, a lot of living space, only three bedrooms now as we turned one into a second bathroom last year.

ClientListQueen · 11/01/2020 01:04

Ground floor flat. Two bedrooms, open plan living/kitchen, main bathroom and en suite
Patio doors leading to private garden
Built 12 years ago, 4 flats in the block so v small

I live in Glasgow in an area that is considered affluent. Our house is 5 bedroom, 3 lounge, open plan kitchen dining. Large garden, double garage.
We built the house 10 yrs ago. My DH's business (housebuilder) allowed to do this
.
I grew up on one of the roughest estates in Glasgow in a 3bed council house. I lived there for 28yrs until I met DH.

Coastal fishing village in Central East Scotland, 5 bed bungalow with sort of mezzanine floor, hallway/stairs, dining room/lounge, sitting room, kitchen/breakfast pace, utility/laundry room, conservatory leading to the garden, family bathroom. Needs decorated/painted again and new carpets.

Cluckyandconfused · 11/01/2020 01:16

I live in a weatherboard ‘high set’ house with a tin roof and a front verandah. There are about 15 steps up from ground level to the front door.

foodiefil · 11/01/2020 01:17

Edwardian terrace. Bay windows upstairs and down. One of those long houses. You walk in and it keeps going. Two reception rooms, kitchen, utility, loo, 3 beds and 1 bath upstairs. NE England.

InkogKneeToe · 11/01/2020 01:17

3 bedroom end of terrace ex council house. 2 double bedrooms and one box room upstairs, living room, kitchen/diner, separate toilet and bathroom downstairs. Landscaped back garden. The toilet is about as far from our bedroom as physically possible. Right pain in the arse in the middle of the night!

WoodliceInSunderland · 11/01/2020 01:17

Tiny little terraced house, smaller than everyone else we know's houses but at least it's ours.

I'd love a garden, drier, dishwasher, big fridge, space to swing a cat etc. though. Constantly daydreaming about a bigger house but not going to happen.

Weenurse · 11/01/2020 01:22

@Aldilogue I hope you are safe. I just read 3 fires combined into mega fire.
We live in suburban house in Victoria, 4 bed 2 bath built late 60’s early 70’s.
Finally paid off mortgage and now looking to do up main bathroom

Divebar · 11/01/2020 01:23

@Cluckyandconfused

Well that sounds intriguing... what part of the world are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

We’re in a commuter town near London, detached house built in 1928. Three bedrooms and sadly no utility room ( a dream) and not many original features but we do have an open fire, a study and a dressing room which I really appreciate. Big garden.

FruityWidow · 11/01/2020 01:26

57ft narrowboat. Probably too small for most people but perfectly sized for us and the wood burner keeps us nice and toasty. If we don't like the surroundings or the neighbours we just turn the engine on and cruise away plus we have the most peaceful and beautiful back gardens. Grin

Aldilogue · 11/01/2020 01:27

Weenurse. Thank you. We are fine. We had our big fire back in November 8. Terrible but we were okay but had ash and falling on the house and the air quality was hazardous for about a month but we fine now. Took a drive the other day, everything looks so burnt.

Either a detached house in a small coastal settlement or a normal 3 bed semi depending where I am,

Chienloup · 11/01/2020 01:29

Late Victorian 3 storey semi. Downstairs we have a living room, utility room, loo, and a large kitchen/diner/family room. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower and loo. On the top floor there is a double bedroom and bathroom. We live in Chichester.

Aldilogue · 11/01/2020 01:30

Fruity is that what you call a barge?
I went on one in Wales that was pulled by a horse. Also my SIL owned one in the Midlands.

I love terraced houses, so different to my house. I lived in one in Melbourne years ago, very long and thin but limited how to furnish.

I'm in a rural area in the west of Ireland in a self-built five bedroom detached house on a large site with stunning views. It's not perfect, we made a few mistakes with the design that in hindsight we'd change, but we have everything we need, it's ours and we love it.

CharlotteMD · 11/01/2020 01:30

Bought a derelict Victorian railway property when first married. Lived in a caravan for 8 year while we rebuilt it , mostly by ourselves. Still not totally finished. It has big rooms with original features , fire places and heavy wooden doors with brass knobs on. It also has an air raid shelter . And the railway is still there, at the end of the garden.

clairethewitch70 · 11/01/2020 01:31

Five bedroom bungalow with a two bedroom annex both detached in woodland in Wales. Four bathrooms. Two acres.

NotMoreFootball · 11/01/2020 01:34

Mine is a new build in the style of a farmhouse. Live in a Southern US State so my living, dining, kitchen is all open plan as is standard here. Our Master bedroom is on the ground floor which is also common in this area. Took some getting used to but now I love it and rarely go upstairs!

Weenurse · 11/01/2020 01:36

@InkogKneeToe could you turn your box room into a bathroom down the track?

ButterflyRuns · 11/01/2020 01:37

Terraced two bedroom character property in a nice neighbourhood which DH owns, sleek kitchen and modern refurb inside with a decent sized garden considering we’re on the outskirts of SW London. Works for us right now, but definitely buying a 3 bed together after we start our family this year.

Rainingdogsandcats · 11/01/2020 01:37

5 bed detached house that use to be a coach house back in the 1800's. Converted in early 2000's.3 floors, 3 sitting rooms, open plan kitchen diner, utility, 2 ensuites, family bathroom and separate loos on ground floor and top floor. Garden is an acre.

Garden is currently brighter than it was at 7am this morning due to the bright moon tonight. Lovely out there.

Every morning we see the sun rise across the fields from the very first peep of it, colours are stunning. We don't have bedroom curtains, we don't have any neighbours.

Pic of garden right now and the moon earlier. Also a sunrise..

Edwardian terraced house in London. 2 receptions, kitchen dining room, cellar, 4 double bedrooms, bathroom. No downstairs loo or utility and tiny garden, but amazing area for famillies. Great schools, parks and woodland, shops, cafes, restaurants, cinema, gyms etc all in walking distance.

squeamishsquamish · 11/01/2020 01:40

I live in a three bedroom semidetached on the west coast with floor to ceiling windows. It's freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer but at least there's lots of light.

weegiemum · 11/01/2020 01:40

15 year old "new build" - not what we can landed for but I became disabled and we needed the features of this house. 4-bed, bathroom + en suite upstairs, lounge/diner, toilet and kitchen/diner downstairs. We had a tiny galley kitchen until 14 months ago when we converted the garage into a huge space. Should have done it years ago!
