What kind of house do you live in?

I love thinking about how different we all are and was wondering what your home are like.
I’ll start... I’m in a regional town on the coast in NSW. My house is two storey, 4 bedroom lounge, dining, kitchen all beds upstairs.
Built about 30 years ago so cosmetically dated but extremely comfortable. We rent because we missed the housing boom.

1950s mid terrace. 3 bedrooms, downstairs bathroom. Lots of storage though! Decent sized gardens.
We rent from a housing association.

My house is very odd. It is end of terrace 1880s but very ugly. Steps down to the front door so dark. But it has a lot of land. So over the years it has been extended sideways and backwards. From the front it looks like a little house, but round the back it is light with a huge garden. Upstairs we have 4 double bedrooms. Downstairs we have a large L shaped living room, small dark kitchen at the front, and small dark dining room.
Very odd, but very comfortable and spacious.

4/5 bed ( depending how we're using a room!) Detached house in a nice estate on the outskirts of a commuter town. Fairly bog standard but it does the job! Suits DH for commuting, lots of things to do for teenagers, pretty safe area.

Looking forward to moving to the country when we're not so restricted by schools though!!

Currently 3 bed 1930s semi with kitchen, upstairs dated bathroom, sun room, dining room and living room plus study area. In need of lots of work (underway). Great rural views. Soon to have a fourth bedroom and onsuite for me downstairs due to disability bought after selling a 4 bed victorian semi based over 4 floors last year.
Lovely location in a village 10 minutes drive to nearest market town and 30 minutes to nearest city.

motortroll · 11/01/2020 09:09

3 storey new build. (6 months old) 4 bedrooms. Never imagined I'd buy 3 storey or a new build but the layout is amazing for a 3 storey!

We have galley kitchen with lounge diner, second lounge upstairs plus 4 bedrooms, 2 en suite, dressing room, 3 car driveway and a large single garage.

Live on the edge of my home town, 2 mins from motorway junction and directly in front of fields and woodland. Have a playpark in front. Still ongoing building happening.

I love my house, can you tell??

Vast improvement on my old 1970s ex council terrace although I did live that too lol

whataballbag · 11/01/2020 09:12

3 bed 1920s terrace, 2 lounges front and back garden.

I rent, 550 a month (Lancashire)

WingBingo · 11/01/2020 09:16

I am in rural Devon, in a 2 bed bungalow.

It’s open plan, which was great when the kids were little.

The second bedroom is a box room so we want to extend into the attic when 2 DS’ are older.

We have lovely views and a big garden that wraps around. We also have a very big shed so the washer and drier are out there. Meant we could squeeze in a dishwasher Grin

Limestone Cottage built in 1670s. Pretty, but fucking freezing.

We live in a rambling ironstone cottage of similar vintage. It's pretty and warm, but relatively expensive to heat.

barberousbarbara · 11/01/2020 09:24

A tiny 2 bed terraced house in a small village in the South Wales Valleys. We're on the side of a steep hill so have lots of steps up to the front door and a steep rear garden but the views from my sofa and garden are wonderful.

I bought it when I was single and was proud that I was able to buy. DP is here now and we could do with a slightly larger house but the location is perfect for us and we know we couldn't afford anything bigger with similar views.

Giggorata · 11/01/2020 09:27

It used to be a village shop, some of it is Victorian, with later extensions. It goes round a corner, so some of the rooms are oddly shaped and one of the extensions is on a different level upstairs, with a huge step.
It has 5/6 bedrooms, two of which were converted from storerooms, and one of them has to be walked through on the way to some rooms, so we built an enormous cupboard and use it as an inner landing.
The bathroom is another converted bedroom and we are adding a shower room and loo downstairs in the Spring, along with a back porch and some fiddling about with the conservatory.
It is a bit of a mash up, but we like it.

1980's 3 bedded end of terrace in a coastal town in the South East 5 minutes walk to the beach. Large kitchen/diner, lounge, downstairs loo. 2 double bedrooms, 1 mancave Hmm. Seperate bathroom and toilet upstairs. Loads of storage which is a god send! Good sized pebbled garden.

Dream home: a lovely quaint cottage like in the vicar of dibley but still near the sea Grin

myidentitymycrisis · 11/01/2020 09:29

upper 2 bed flat in a late Georgian terrace in London. Kitchen and living room on 1st, 2 beds and bathroom above. We share the front door with the ground/basement flat below us.
Own garden and separate access.

Every room is light

Well to be fair, we can get our house toasty - and often do - but it is eye-wateringly expensive to heat. Never thought I'd say this, but I often fantasise about a well insulated, centrally heated, modern house.

2 bed 50s terrance in an outer London borough.

Single fronted, massive great whacking bay windows at the front. Through lounge and tiny extended kitchen downstairs, 2 big bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. 100ft garden out the back which needs some serious work.

Perfect for me, DP and 3 cats.

Wineloffa · 11/01/2020 09:36

Late Victorian 3 storey semi detached villa. 5 bedrooms, one en-suite. Sittingroom, family room, large kitchen diner. Utility room, 2 bathrooms, down stairs loo. High ceilings and loads of windows (most rooms have 2 or 3 windows) so feels bright and airy. Loads of original features (cornicing and fireplaces).

Large mature gardens front and back with plenty of room for parking on the driveway and a detached garage. It’s my dream home and I still can’t believe I live here.

butteredbarmbrack · 11/01/2020 09:39

1930s mid terrace in SW London, bought 20 years ago. The original layout had a galley kitchen, but we knocked through to make a large kitchen-diner at the back. There's also a living room downstairs and a storage/utility room. Two bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor, plus a box room (which will fit a cot or toddler bed, but not a full length single). Box room is small because we took some space from it for stairs to the loft extension - double bedroom and shower room in the loft.

Long narrow garden at the back and a garage which we really need to replace, including reorganising so we can try and park the car there alongside 5 bikes.... The house works well for us now and location is pretty good (not very exciting in our immediate vicinity but works for getting to work/school, as well as into London or also out of it!).

But parking is getting more and more difficult as very few people use their garages, most houses have more than one car, and more and more front gardens are being paved for driveways, reducing on street parking. We don't use the car during the week for work etc but it's tricky finding somewhere to park if we have to pick DC up from activities in the evening. At least they're teens now so we aren't lugging car seats half way up the street!

aNonnyMouse1511 · 11/01/2020 09:39

3 bed large semi that we love. Planning an extension to make it a 4 bed with a stunning master suite and a stunning entrance and additional reception room downstairs.

Wish the town wasn’t getting so built up, the additional traffic is taking it away from what it used to be so sadly will be considering moving out of the county if it gets beyond what we would tolerate (moved here for the peace!)

Roomba · 11/01/2020 09:39

Two bedroom Victorian terrace. We actually have more space than my friends in 'larger' new build houses - both bedrooms are large, even the small room can fit a king sized bed, wardrobe, desk and bookcases. We also have two decent sized reception rooms and a decent sized cellar for storage. The only downside is a small kitchen and only one bathroom (never caused an issue for us, but I've heard many people saying they'd never live without a downstairs loo). If I had the money, I'd convert the loft so my sons didn't have to share a room. But by the time I could afford that, the eldest will be leaving home anyway.

2 bed flat in converted house. 3 floors with a private roof terrace. London

Kim82 · 11/01/2020 09:40

We have a 3 bedroom, end terrace ex council house in the North West. We use an extension downstairs as a bedroom for me and Dh and the dc have the 3 bedrooms upstairs. The owners before us completely renovated the house inside and out so it is absolutely lovely and adore the fact it didn’t cost us a fortune because of the area we are in - which isn’t anywhere near as bad as you would think.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/01/2020 09:43

Semi detached 3 bedroom house with downstairs bathroom.Ex pit village in South Yorkshire.

Bluebellbike · 11/01/2020 09:45

3 bed (4 if you count the loft conversion) semi in NW England in a town close to a major and quite wonderful city in which I was born. Built in 1927 and has had a great deal of renovation. Large grassy garden which my two rabbits love. Lovely neighbours. Only me and the cat and rabbits live here now. I would downsize but all my memories are here. My DH died in 2008.My grown DC moved out in 2017 and 2019 to their own homes. Been here nearly 26 years and have put down very firm roots.

bluechameleon · 11/01/2020 09:46

1950s end of terrace. Previous owners extended so it has 4 bedrooms, decent sized kitchen, living room, downstairs shower room and utility room. Good sized rooms and I love the location. Main negative is no drive and a real battle for street parking.

Musmerian · 11/01/2020 09:51

Classic Victorian Terrace. Pretty original railings and front garden and sash windows. Four bedrooms and knock through sitting/dining area. Been here 15 years now.
