What kind of house do you live in?

I love thinking about how different we all are and was wondering what your home are like.
I’ll start... I’m in a regional town on the coast in NSW. My house is two storey, 4 bedroom lounge, dining, kitchen all beds upstairs.
Built about 30 years ago so cosmetically dated but extremely comfortable. We rent because we missed the housing boom.

We have moved 3 times in the last few years from a teeny 2 bed flat to a 3 bed semi to a 5 bed detached. We have 4 kids now though so we need the space.

Back to back terrace in Yorkshire - it's tiny but does the job.

FramingDevice · 11/01/2020 05:50

There’s at least one person on this thread whose house is a complete fantasy, based on references in recent threads to their income and living space.

EmMcK · 11/01/2020 05:50

We are in NZ and live in a three bedroom detached house on a good size bit of land with a pool. When we moved back from after a decade in the UK I could not believe/remember how insanely cold the houses are here so our house is possibly the best insulated house in the country

Newmetoday · 11/01/2020 06:08

4 bed detached new build in the north east. Love it. Very cheap bills

Aldilogue · 11/01/2020 06:41

EmMck. I know what you mean. Some weatherboard houses I’ve lived in in Melbourne were freezing.
I found I was colder in Melbourne winters than English winters. The houses in UK are so well insulated, well the ones I’ve stayed in away and the heating is much more efficient.

@katmandoo me too! Victorian additions, but no eighties ones. I'm in Kent.

Dinosauraddict · 11/01/2020 06:46

SE commuter town - 5 bed Edwardian semi-detached. 3 bathrooms, multiple reception rooms and a decent sized garden. No garage, however, which is a little annoying. Also exchanged on a small 2 bed terrace by the coast with sea views, just waiting for completion!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 11/01/2020 06:46

A 3 bed flat in South Essex. First floor and no outside space. Looking to move to Staffordshire and the value of the flat would afford us a 4 bed detached, garage, drive and garden.

vickibee · 11/01/2020 06:47

A three storey Edwardian semi detached , we love the house but it has poor insulation and is cold in the winter. It has no cavity wall and it is built in huge blocks of Yorkshire stone. A lot of maintenance as well.
I think we will have to move into a low maintenance place for our old age lol.

I live in the west Mids. I've lived in my 1930s semi for 2 years now. It was my divorce house and was derelict when I bought it, whole place had to be gutted. I think it's absolutely beautiful now.

I'm selling it next year to move 40 miles away to a market town I adore and will probably buy a much smaller Victorian terrace...but I'll be mortgage free so worth it!

NewInTown08 · 11/01/2020 07:05

1970s bungalow in a North American city. Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. Open floor plan. We renovated it completely since moving in and just finished the basement. It's the perfect size for our family, not too big, just enough, with room in basement for guests. I love my house .. Just wish it was in a different city.

sparkle67 · 11/01/2020 07:10

3 bed shared ownership house at the end of a row of four houses in Cheshire, not a brilliant area but we live on the 'nicer' side! We are a young couple with a new baby Smile

SallyWD · 11/01/2020 07:14

Live in a city in Yorkshire. We live in a 1930s semi. It has a roof conversion so three floors, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (although one is not really a bathroom but a toilet in the utility room!). I really like our street and neighbourhood.

user1493413286 · 11/01/2020 07:14

4 bedroom detached new build in midlands in a suburban town but a year ago we were in a 2 bedroom flat on the south coast which I loved but were too cramped and wanted more space for the growing family we wanted so we made a hard and big decision about what we wanted out of life and made the move for the house prices among other things. Not sure I ever expected to live somewhere like this but I don’t regret it at all.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/01/2020 07:16

Currently living in a private rent 2 bed flat in a commuter town in the East Midlands.

Will soon be buying a traditional 3 bedroom semi in the same area.

Juanbablo · 11/01/2020 07:16

We live in a small village in south oxon. We rent a 3 bed house. Bathroom upstairs, shower room downstairs. Kitchen, lounge/diner. We have mostly re decorated since we moved in almost 3 years ago but it could still do with kitchen and bathrooms replacing.

Juanbablo · 11/01/2020 07:16

Built in the 60s I think.

megletthesecond · 11/01/2020 07:23

Ex 1960's solid 3 bed council terrace in Hampshire. There are are flimsier nuclear bunkers.
It would be perfect if I could afford an ensuite.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 11/01/2020 07:29

3 bed private rented semi in West Yorkshire. House would be perfect if I could rip out the original 30’s and frankly hideous bathroom tiles.

Conniedescending · 11/01/2020 07:31

5 bed 1930s detached with family room extension. Still needs a lot of decorating and updating but solid. Garage and front and back gardens that we struggle to stay on top of! Loads of space and I love it

AllideasAndNoAction · 11/01/2020 07:33

Modern four bed detached with three bathrooms and a small annexe, plus we have very large, very old holiday home in another country. We don’t go there much in winter because heating it is too flipping expensive.

MaidofKent78 · 11/01/2020 07:33

1930s semi about a 25 mins walk to York centre. Loft conversion to give 4th bedroom and 2nd bathroom. Garden larger than average for this type of house. And a conservatory at the back. We're on the edge of a not so nice area which meant we were able to buy a bigger house than our budget allowed elsewhere. We really like it. The house is large enough for our needs but doesn't feel overwhelming. It's homely and I find that 1930s houses were built with family life in mind. I'm not a fan of a lot of modern houses with tiny rooms (though lots of them), small gardens and packed rightly together. Here we have room to breathe, though the park at the end of the garden helps with that!

DelightfulBox · 11/01/2020 07:37

Four bed house in the nicest road in town, N Yorks, 3 baths, two receptions, huge kitchen with seating area overlooking the v small garden. Thinking of downsizing as soon as I can do so without mortgage penalties as the cost of living here is too high on my own (and it’s too big).
