What kind of house do you live in?

I love thinking about how different we all are and was wondering what your home are like.
I’ll start... I’m in a regional town on the coast in NSW. My house is two storey, 4 bedroom lounge, dining, kitchen all beds upstairs.
Built about 30 years ago so cosmetically dated but extremely comfortable. We rent because we missed the housing boom.

4 bed detached built in 2005. Bought it 2 years ago for its location. Not my dream house but it's in a lovely place

We live in a nice trendy area of Leeds. Our house is a 4 bedroom semi built in Arts and Crafts style in 1923. It has a massive hallway with the lounge study dining room and kitchen coming off it. It backs onto a woodland. It's in a cull de sac but out of our front bedroom windows we have views across the city. We have a concrete air raid shelter in the back garden. We are doing it up as it was in a sorry state when bought 3 years ago. William Morris wallpaper now in the dining room as befitting its heritage.

6 bed barn conversion. Grade 2 listed with lots of land/fields in an affluent area, pretty market town nearby used for filming period dramas a lot.

It's a bit of a white middle class bubble. I do worry that my children have no concept of ethnic or socioeconomic diversity. It's all a bit Farrow & Ball / Landrovers and schofel gilets round here.

Just moved from a 1900 built 3-bed semi in South West Wales, which was dated, needed loads of work, no back garden and occasional mice squatters. But it did have lovely huge rooms and stunning views.
Now live in a 1960s mid link on the estate I grew up on, 2 double bedrooms and 1 box room, open plan downstairs and well stocked but neglected back garden. However it's not dated, needs nothing done and has loads of storage space.
I'll take a purpose built box over character and needing work any day!

We are in a 3 bed 1930s detached house on the South Coast. Big garden and front room .A lot like my DGPs house in North London which I loved as a child !

Els1e · 11/01/2020 07:51

A 2 bed ground floor flat, with patio overlooking communal gardens. Gardens back on to South West coast path, so near the sea. I love it’s tranquility.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/01/2020 08:06

1970s 3 bed detached. In a village about an hour from London.

I always loved in period properties and never thought I would go for this type of house. It has absolutely no character whatsoever but OMG it's warm compared to the drafty Victorian house we used to live in!

DinosApple · 11/01/2020 08:08

3 bed 70s house in East Anglia.
All the houses in the street have downstairs bathrooms for some reason. Rooms are a good size though with large windows.

Sassanacs · 11/01/2020 08:15

South east, large town very centrally located. 3 bed semi, Edwardian w/ lots of original features. Relocated here from south London a couple of years ago to get the house we wanted for nigh on half the price

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/01/2020 08:18

An old Victorian house, we live in a two storey flat within it. I'd like a whole house but the flat is miles bigger than any house we could afford.

Marshy86 · 11/01/2020 08:23

I live on the boarder of the national forest in a small village, 4 bed detached with double garage. Kitchen/diner, lounge, dinning room and man cave 😂

ExohExohGossipgirl · 11/01/2020 08:24

3 bed, two bath semi D in North county Dublin. Live by the sea in a beautiful village. Love it here and know how lucky i am to have been able to buy when i did. All open plan downstairs with separate utility room and decent sized garden for the dogs. Im in my forever home :)

Lordfrontpaw · 11/01/2020 08:25

A wee flat - the location is absolutely great and it’s perfect for our dotage so I just need to hang in there.

Kahlua4me · 11/01/2020 08:25

We live in a detached 4 bed in south east England. Large open plan living area and a separate sitting room that is currently our office. We are on a corner plot so have a lovely wrap around garden.

This area was a market town when I was growing up but now getting too big and urban so would like to move eventually...

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 11/01/2020 08:25

1970s built end of terrace, 4 beds. Unlike our previous ex-council, this one is properly heated and insulated. No garden bar two potted trees, but as we're surrounded by walking country and the sea's visible from the end of the road...

Cluckyandconfused · 11/01/2020 08:34

@AllThreeWays @Divebar

Yes, my house is in Queensland. But alas, not a traditional ‘Queenslander’ though as it was built in 1959. The height means it seems to catch more of a breeze in summer but lack of insulation means winter feels just as cold as I remember it to be in the UK!

cheeseislife8 · 11/01/2020 08:35

1900 2 bed end terrace. The rooms are decent sized, and we don't need another bedroom (yet) so it works fine for us. Our first house bought together

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 11/01/2020 08:35

2 bed end of terrace in Zone 4 london. It's small and we'd love to go up into the loft for a bit more space but also want to pay off the mortgage at some point before I die so don't really want to add more debt!

MsTSwift · 11/01/2020 08:36

Very large Edwardian semi in beautiful small city. Country walks in one direction town in the other all on foot so we happy and the kids. Had a country childhood myself quite tough in teens

Eminybob · 11/01/2020 08:40

3 bed end of terrace, 1955 ex council.
Toilet separate to rest of bathroom. Just 2 rooms downstairs, lounge and large kitchen diner.
Large front and back garden but no parking (can’t turn front garden into parking as it’s down a slope)

It ain’t pretty, but it’s well built and cosy.

TravelDreamLife · 11/01/2020 08:42

Large-ish open plan plan 5 bedroom brick house in a regional city in QLD. On the side of a hill so we get the breeze but it's still hot at night! We built it 12 years ago so it's still modern but starting to need maintenance. We'd have beautiful city views except our neighbours decided to plant huge trees that they never see from their house.

1906 end terrace mill workers cottage on the edge of a thriving village in the West Yorkshire pennines. The loft had been converted when we bought it so it has 3 double bedrooms. It's been a Labour of love but for me it's perfect.

itchybitzy · 11/01/2020 08:47

Standard 80s built detached house. Was 3 bed with 1 bathroom upstairs but we've added an extension to put another bedroom (or study/playroom) downstairs, made the kitchen bigger into a family room and added a utility and downstairs WC. Relatively decent sized garden. No garage as we converted it during the extension.

Fatfat · 11/01/2020 08:50

I live in a double fronted semi detached house in a leafy village in the London commuter belt (just outside of the M25)

We have a double fronted semi detached house which we recently renovated.

We have 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (2 shower rooms and 1 with a bath), open plan kitchen/dining room/living room, plus we have a separate snug with wood burner, study and utility room! Plus a large garden with views onto open fields.
