Do you use a dishwasher?

We are just about to buy a new kitchen and trying to decide whether to get a dishwasher or not.
I've never had one before so do t know if I'd use it?
I've got a 1 year old so may be it will help free up
a few minutes every day?!

Yes get one. You won't regret it. When we had our very small kitchen redone a few years ago we made sure we could accommodate one.

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 10/01/2020 21:10

Yes get one.
Even if you're handwashing items, you can stack them in the empty dishwasher ( with the door open) and they'll dry nicely.
I run my dishwasher after dinner, then anything that's hand wash only gets done in the sink and when the cycle is finished, I pop the hand washed items in to dry.

Also, home bargains sell fairy dishwasher tablets really cheaply - usually for about 12p each. If they have bags with only foreign language on, they can be even cheaper.

Ooo yes. You can't imagine the feeling of contentment when baby is napping and you can hear the dishwasher and washing machine whirring away. Peace on Earth.

Against the consensus - no, wouldn't bother. I've had one once in my life, and when it broke a couple of months into my rental contract, neither I nor my flatmate could be bothered to pester the agent to have it replaced (don't worry, LLs of MN, we notified them in the proper manner!).

I'd have one if I had an enormous kitchen and a huge family, sure, but otherwise you just spend ages waiting for it to be full enough to run or being fed up that the crockery/cutlery you want is in there waiting to be washed.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/01/2020 21:15

Once you have one, you will never want to be without one. My washing machine and dishwasher packed up within a week of each other (fridge about a month after....aint it always the way!?) I used the laundrette for a month and replaced the dishwasher first :o

12345kbm · 10/01/2020 21:18

I have a slimline and run it every night. I wouldn't be without it. If I don't have enough crockery or pots, I put in fridge shelves or other things that can go through. Definitely get one.

madmother1 · 10/01/2020 21:18

Mine's on sometimes twice a day. Definitely get one!!!

Bluntness100 · 10/01/2020 21:19

Oh yes, it's like a cupboard for your dirty dishes, no more will you see them laying in your sink looking guiltily at you.

mommybear1 · 10/01/2020 21:19

I would not be without one it will not save you a few minutes it will save you many - get one!

OldSpeclkledHen · 10/01/2020 21:20

I'm single (ish) and live alone.
Dishwasher is on every other day (it's only little)
OMFG ... I loves it.

Ineedanamechange79 · 10/01/2020 21:28

I have refused to buy houses where there isn't room for a dishwasher! Last house I removed cupboards to get one in.

DaffodilsAreMyFav · 10/01/2020 21:29

You'll never look back!

formerbabe · 10/01/2020 21:30

I love mine! Do it!

Mum2jenny · 10/01/2020 21:31

formerbabe · 10/01/2020 21:32

Liriope · 10/01/2020 21:33

queenofmycastlex · 10/01/2020 21:34

Veronicat · 10/01/2020 21:34

I love my dishwasher but I secretly long for dishwasher drawers.

Deadringer · 10/01/2020 21:36

When we got our kitchen in we didn't bother as we didn't think we would use it. Big mistake! Had to rejig the whole kitchen to fit one in later. Get one!

HotChocolatemarshmallows · 10/01/2020 21:43

I can't tell you all how sold I am on it, can't wait to get one now! 😁

MiniMum97 · 10/01/2020 21:45

Definitely definitely definitely

YappityYapYap · 10/01/2020 21:46

You'll never look back OP! I got a dishwasher in 2018 when I got a new kitchen and I doubted if I really needed it. Within a day I was like oh my god, I don't need to stand and do dishes 4 times a day now and my hands are not dry and cracked anymore! Plus the feeling of never having dishes in the sink waiting to be washed is great

1300cakes · 10/01/2020 21:54

I used to hate them and never use mine (came with house) as I couldn't see when I'd fill it and don't like running it 3/4 empty. Then I realised you don't need to run it daily. Now I run it every 3 days and bloody love it. Only sorting dishes every three days - heaven!

MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2020 21:57

Absolutely

BonfireStarter · 10/01/2020 22:20

@TeddyBeans is there not even space for a slimline one? I have a very small kitchen and love my little dishwasher.

OP please get one!
