Sinusitis...I want to rip my own head off

Ok maybe that's an exaggeration but fucking hell, this is truly hideous. I've never had it before.

I'm on Sudafed tablets and nurofen plus. I also have a squirty nasal spray thing. They're not really touching the sides when it comes to pain. I swear my head is about to explode. The stuff that is appearing on my tissues is like something out of ghostbusters.

Does anyone have any miracle remedies, PLEASE?!

SentimentalKiller · 06/01/2020 11:11

I find making my own rinse and using a neti pot more effective that the sprays
It impacts my vision too.
Too painful to wear glasses Grin

Feduppluckingmychinhairs · 06/01/2020 14:47

@SentimentalKiller pray tell, how do you make the rinse? I do spare my sachets so if I could make the rinse myself I would be delighted

I used to get it every year without fail when I smoked.
I gave up as soon as I did any pregnancy test but still managed to get it while preg with no3. I begged the doc for antibiotics as I couldn't function looking after other kids. It was hideous. Eventually he gave me that Otrivine stuff and the relief was wonderful after weeks of suffering.
People on here suggested a nettipot I think but this was before you could get anything so easily off amazon so I didn't get one.
I did find inhaling the menthol crystals you get from the chemist quite good too.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/01/2020 15:00

And also meant to say, you have my deepest sympathy. I truly wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's right up there with raging toothache and earache on the pain scale - truly hideous. Sad

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/01/2020 15:01

Oh no Beconase was the stuff

TonOfLead · 06/01/2020 15:12

Sympathies to OP and all those suffering.

I had awful problems with my sinuses several years ago. OTC stuff didn't touch it. Nor did ABs. Although admittedly I never tried a vibrator.

I got so desperate I tried acupuncture. To my infinite surprise it cracked it almost instantly.

closetotheaction · 06/01/2020 20:53

Tbh it's come back with such force this evening that I might even consider acupuncture

OP posts:
Fraggot · 06/01/2020 21:35

I have chronic sinusitis and have tried everything mentioned on this thread apart from acupuncture. After nearly 2 years I was finally referred to an ENT who did no examination and said it’s ‘probably hay fever’ Hmm

It’s a nightmare to treat and get treated. Hope yours passes quickly OP.

closetotheaction · 06/01/2020 21:44

Hay fever..?! Fucks sake. I suffer from hay fever too (lucky me) and there couldn't be a bigger difference between the two things.

JulesJules · 06/01/2020 21:51

It's the absolute worst. I get it too. Steaming and Sterimar are the best things to shift it, hot flannels and anti inflams help.

cheshirecat777 · 06/01/2020 22:14

i have had this - antibiotics is the only way to get rid of it

YasssKween · 06/01/2020 22:15

To be honest OP if you don't update sporner corner on this kind of thing then you're asking for bad karma and it'll come back Grin

In all seriousness it's HORRIBLE isn't. For me it's the pressure and then the sheer "why the fuck is there always more".

Bowl of water with Vicks, head over bowl, towel over head. It does help but like anything with sinusitis everything is fairly short lived.

Can't wait for LoveHoney to announce their sales spike in first week of Jan from MNetters buying vibrators for, ahem, health reasons.

Just noticed LoveHoney autocorrects to the official brand name capitals spelling. Saucy wench that I am.

Another tip for dealing with it - do keep posting and have a moan, loads of us understand and it'll be nice to be able to repeat WHY DOES MY FACE FEEL LIKE ITS GOING TO EXPLODE to my sinusitis sisters.

closetotheaction · 06/01/2020 22:43

@YasssKween My face does actually feel like it's going to explode. Hate to go on but this is truly hideous.

tmi warning below

If you want a sporn update, I blew my nose earlier and what flew out was spectacular. It was basically a large, long, cylindrical bogey; basically a cast of the inside of my nostril / sinus. Thing of beauty it was. I couldn't photograph it for sporner's corner as I was walking through the leisure centre car park as it was born Grin So I just quietly and proudly admired it on my tissue for a while.

SentimentalKiller · 06/01/2020 23:36

Feduppluckingmychinhairs
I make mine in a drinks bottle so I guess about a pint of water give or take
Boiled water, fine sea salt, half teaspoon of bicarb and a, teaspoon of sugar
The sea salt is the active ingredient. The others are just to soften the water.

Trewser · 06/01/2020 23:51

Op have you done the sniffing warm salty water thing?

Werkwerkwerkwerk · 07/01/2020 08:22

Sympathies OP - I would have ripped my own teeth out to get relief.
Codine
Codine
And more codine.
Also now is not the time to buy cheap tissues.

Massive D- for failing to post this.

I am disappoint.

lotusbell · 11/01/2020 12:04

How are you feeling, OP?

closetotheaction · 11/01/2020 13:34

I'm finally on the mend! Thanks for asking Smile I stuck it out until Friday but when I started becoming dizzy/ confused and disorientated I decided I probably needed to see a GP. So I now have a week of doxycycline which seems to be doing its stuff.

Really hope everyone else who has been suffering is feeling better. Thanks
