Sinusitis...I want to rip my own head off

Ok maybe that's an exaggeration but fucking hell, this is truly hideous. I've never had it before.

I'm on Sudafed tablets and nurofen plus. I also have a squirty nasal spray thing. They're not really touching the sides when it comes to pain. I swear my head is about to explode. The stuff that is appearing on my tissues is like something out of ghostbusters.

Does anyone have any miracle remedies, PLEASE?!

There are some great videos on youtube for facial massage for Qi gong (chi gong - a bit like tai chi) that will show you how to clear your sinuses in minutes with some simple moves. Try a couple of different ones if the first one doesn't work!

This one seems to work really well for me within a couple of minutes, although it's at 2 minutes 20 seconds or so into the video:

I've got a nasty cold and just did it and it worked in seconds!!!

Also some other general qi gong ones for full body movements to remove stuck energy when you are ill. I know it sounds woo but honestly they really work.

Let me know if it works OP! Good luck!!

magicmallow · 05/01/2020 18:37

Sorry I should have said - skip to 2 minutes 20 secs into the video for the nasal sinus clearing move.

Christmashope19 · 05/01/2020 18:39

I used to get it regularly
On one occasion I went to the dr 3 times and each time he gave me antibiotics which just wasn’t shifting it, I was in agony
I was recommended by a friend to go to an alternative medical practice went there and was prescribed a variety of potions which were all disgusting to take however within 3 days my sinuses were clear it was unbelievable
That was 10 years ago!
Honestly worth a try

You have my sympathies OP. Recently had a bout of it myself. Have you been to GP, mine prescribed a steroid nasal spray and after the first few sprays I started to feel a bit more human. Also heated a wheat bag up and put it on my forehead/face. Hope you start to feel better soon.

CrowleysBentley · 05/01/2020 18:41

Steamer with a blob of vicks in the water. Also one of those microwave heat pads held on your face can help with pain, not too hot so you don't burn the sensitive skin. I wrap mine in a hand towel and then unwrap as it cools a bit so the heat lasts longer.

kinsss · 05/01/2020 18:43

Flixonase spray is good too. But only for a day or two. Works for hay fever, but helps with the sinuses obviously too.

My empathy and sympathies with fellow sufferers.

Trewser · 05/01/2020 18:46

I used to sniff warm salty water and massage my sinuses then blow it back out of my nose. The stuff that came out was truly terrifying.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/01/2020 18:47

What @magicmallow posted is what I came here to post.

I had sinusitis week 34-37 of pregnancy and I can honestly say it was hell. The pregnancy was choppy anyway but that on top... it was AWFUL.

  • for prompt relief do that video and the related ones that will pop up. Do ‘em all.
  • get that facial steam thing off Amazon
  • literally massage the fuck out of your face at all times

I’m sorry. Sinusitis is so awful it partly contributed to my DD having to be delivered at 37w I shit you not.

Oldstyle · 05/01/2020 18:49

I had a chronic case years ago - two rounds of antibiotics failed to shift it. I went to two acupuncture sessions (and stopped eating eggs, tomatoes, dairy for a while) and it went. Like magic.

closetotheaction · 05/01/2020 18:50

Oh bloody hell you lot are all so lovely, I didn't expect this many responses. Thank you so much. Although I am sorry to hear how many others suffer this shit too.

I've just sat with my puffy face over a bowl of vicks and hot water and the relief is actually quite immense. Guess what I'll be doing for the rest of the evening Angry

I'm going to watch that massage video now.

Steam.

I had infection after infection, and the GPs advice was to sit in the steam room at the gym with a large bottle of water and leave a box of tissues outside the door. I was to sit in the steam for as long as I could stand it, drinking lots of water, then go out and blow my nose until it was clear, then go back in and do it again. He said to try to do that for half an hour.

If you can't or don't want to do that, spend a long time in a hot shower, and keep blowing your nose in there.

heyjude12 · 05/01/2020 18:52

Try using an electric toothbrush to massage your sinuses while in a hot shower.

Works well but don't look at what comes out when you blow ur nose Envy definitely not envy

poorbuthappy · 05/01/2020 18:53

Hot water bottle between steaming.

Oh the stuff that came out earlier after I got out bed was pretty spectacular; I was actually tempted to photograph it for Sporner's Corner. #oneforthealbum

My mum has an infrared lamp that helps - sit in front of it for 10 mins or so.

And this stuff helps me : uk.iherb.com/pr/bionorica-sinupret-sinus-immune-support-adult-strength-25-tablets/17865?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAr8bwBRD4ARIsAHa4YyJZTIG7ddH4287WYjIy5hYhKKxMRgGBrJfNPDcstbtTLMQ-5x_faTEaArO3EALw_wcB

MerryGrinchmas1 · 05/01/2020 19:02

Neil med sinus rinse. I am a regular sufferer and this is a god send!

BearSoFair · 05/01/2020 19:03

Sympathies OP, I had it a few years ago, sent DH to get some Sudafed and was sat at home crying because it hurt so much and he was taking too long Blush

closetotheaction · 05/01/2020 19:03

@BearSoFair I get that.

OP posts:
OldSpeclkledHen · 05/01/2020 19:04

Oooh feel your pain... it makes me want to pull out my eyes and put them in the freezer.

Sudafed (the over the counter one) for sinus pain is good...

Have read good things about the nasal wash (sounds fucking grim but anything's better than right now?!)

Wishing speedy recovery

closetotheaction · 05/01/2020 19:08

Just burnt my chin by accidentally dipping it in the hot water in my steam bowl. Fuck my life.

OP posts:
Sarcelle · 05/01/2020 19:11

I would echo menthol crystals in hot water and steam. I sometimes do it when I have a headache too.

Bananaman123 · 05/01/2020 19:19

I used a lot of nasal spray and kept a humidifier next to my 24 7, that helped a bit

Junie70 · 05/01/2020 19:19

I used to suffer from chronic sinusitis until I came off dairy.

Only things that helped during a bout of it was saline nasal spray, ibuprofen, and steaming.

It's literally the worst thing. Hope you feel better soon.

Sunshinegirl82 · 05/01/2020 19:22

If you put a towel over your head whilst you inhale the steam it keeps the steam in and really helps!

closetotheaction · 05/01/2020 19:32

I have been using a towel over my head and it definitely helps. Apart from the chin incident.

The dairy theory is interesting. I don't eat a huge amount of it really (apart from cheese, god I love cheese) but TBH if cutting it out prevents another bout of this then sign me up.
