Does anyone have a weighted blanket?

Dogleg · 03/01/2020 21:50

I get off to sleep ok but have trouble staying asleep longer than about 3am. I toss and turn then until about 6am, an hour before I have to get up for work.
I’m knackered. Am tempted to try a weighted blanket as I’ve heard good things.
Are they too hot? I’m currently comfortable under a 7.5kg quilt and my DH alongside me.
DH isn’t a great sleeper either and gets hot. Should I get a double? Any pointers would be gratefully received

Sorry, I can't helo, but I'm just debating getting DD one so interested to see what people say on this.

LoisLittsLover · 03/01/2020 21:54

DH got me one for Christmas and it is far and away the best preaent ever!! I am now outnlike a light within minutes whereas before would be tossing and turning for nearly an hour most nights. It has also stopped my restlessmlefs bothering me. I find it comfortably warm at this time of year but wouldn't want it in summer.

Branleuse · 03/01/2020 21:56

Yes ive got one. Ive got several smaller ones from when kids were little and ive recently got myself a really nice double one

My eldest still sleeps with his, but the others not so much now. I love mine

Littleshortcake · 03/01/2020 21:58

I would be interested in this too. Would love to get a recommendation

PantyGiraffe · 03/01/2020 22:01

I had one from kalmkoala.com. I wanted one for ages and thought it’d be good for my anxiety and fibromyalgia. Nope. Not only do they weigh A TON (I actually had trouble moving it around) but also it felt really oppressive and heavy and made my body pain worse. Thankfully the company took it back under guarantee (can’t fault their service or quality, if youre getting one I highly recommend them) and I got a refund.

Dogleg · 03/01/2020 22:03

I was hoping to use one over my existing duvet. Will it be too hot I wonder...

I’d say yes it would be too hot.

sparklefarts · 03/01/2020 22:08

Do they really help ease anxiety?

Rupertpenrysmistress · 03/01/2020 22:09

Yes I have one and I love it. When I put it on I am out like a light. It does take some getting used to and some may find it to hot.

cleowasmycat · 03/01/2020 22:12

Mine is 8kg and I have it on top of my duvet. At first I thought it was too heavy but I love it now.

Branleuse · 03/01/2020 22:15

Ive got mine over my duvet. AND ive got my electric blanket on and pyjamas.
I love being hot in bed on a cold night.
As to whether you'd be too hot, is down to your own preference, but sometimes i just have the weighted blanket without the duvet.

Id recommend my one, but it looks to have doubled in price.
I like the ones with the minky fleece cover

Bananaman123 · 03/01/2020 22:18

Not weighted but i bought a fleece/teddy duvet cover and that with my 10.5 tog is quite heavy which is fantastic! I too get hot but i have a fan on all night anyway and i dont overheat in the duvet cover. One of my best purchases

katseyes7 · 03/01/2020 22:20

My OH has bought one for me. lt's in transit, so once it arrives and l've had a chance to try it out, l'll let you know what l think of it.

fleariddenmoggie · 03/01/2020 22:23

I bought DD a Mela Comfort blanket for Xmas - she did not get on (with it and they refunded the money without question, so an excellent company to use if you’re unsure.

ILikTheBred · 03/01/2020 22:24

My DS (who has ASD) has one - it has been a lifesaver. He is much less anxious and sleeps much better with it. He uses it in lieu of a duvet, with a sheet. If it’s very cold we sometimes put a fleece blanket on top.

twoheaped · 03/01/2020 22:24

I bought my dd one for Christmas, she tends to wake a lot through the night, she is 13.
She wears it over her duvet, hers is 4.5kg as it is meant to be roughly 10% of your body weight. I got it from John Lewis as at £60, I thought it worth a punt rather than the £100+ I've seen others advertised at.

Now I want one, I love a heavy blanket.

U2HasTheEdge · 03/01/2020 22:25

I got one for Xmas. I love it. It lives on my sofa though. It helps with day time naps ;). I have a summer cover that came with it that is meant to be quite cooling.

Mine is the Gravity blanket.

justanothernomaj · 03/01/2020 22:30

I have a 13.5 tog duvet, which I haven't got out for a couple of years, just used 4.5 tog with very warm pyjamas and hot water bottle. I put the 13.5 on a couple of weeks ago, with very light pyjamas and have been amazed at how much better I have slept, despite the menopausal insomnia.

I think the answer could be two single duvets, one heavy and one not so heavy for your DPH

mathanxiety · 03/01/2020 22:32

One of my DDs got one for Christmas from another DD. She was sitting in an armchair when she opened her gift, and draped it over herself immediately. A few minutes later we noticed a little snoring sound.

She reports that she can't imagine life without it and it's less than two weeks since she got it.

sweetkitty · 03/01/2020 22:36

I so want one

Just now I sleep with a 13 tog duvet then a single 10 tog just over me. I have to have that heavy feeling so think one would he ideal for me. I have fibromyalgia too

circleorsquare · 03/01/2020 22:42

I've just bought one for DD. She's suffering from anxiety and having sleep issues so am going to give it a go. It's not cheap, I've just spent £64 on it but hope it helps. I'm also hoping it's not too heavy, it's 5kg so a touch over 10% of her body weight, will have to see

mimiasovitch · 03/01/2020 22:49

Dd1 has one for Christmas. She absolutely loves it, and we've all had a go and really want one too. It makes you feel all cocooned and safe. I sleep really well anyway though, and am concerned that I may never want to leave my bed.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 03/01/2020 22:59

I bought one ( a small single costing about £80) for DD who has anxiety and EUPD.
The fact it was on the small side was distracting so make sure you get one that covers all comfortably.
Wasn't a great success here but think dimensions do matter.
Have heard more good reports that bad.

TheNemesisOfLame · 03/01/2020 23:00

I bought one for DD as she had trouble getting off to sleep. She sleeps with it and a duvet but her room is cold.

I then bought another (after the rave reviews from DD) for DS who has anxiety and trouble staying asleep .He also loves his - but finds it too warm to have with a duvet. So out like a light all night- but he has to fling it off in the morning.

I paid over £100 for each one with a reversible cover (Therapy Blanket). May have been a little pricey - but they seem well made.

TipseyTorvey · 03/01/2020 23:04

I have one. Bought one for DS initially and it worked so well I got one for me. Knocks me out most nights but it can be warm on a non cold night.
