Does anyone have a weighted blanket?

Dogleg · 03/01/2020 21:50

I get off to sleep ok but have trouble staying asleep longer than about 3am. I toss and turn then until about 6am, an hour before I have to get up for work.
I’m knackered. Am tempted to try a weighted blanket as I’ve heard good things.
Are they too hot? I’m currently comfortable under a 7.5kg quilt and my DH alongside me.
DH isn’t a great sleeper either and gets hot. Should I get a double? Any pointers would be gratefully received

I'd imagine it'd be quite good for anxiety- I sleep on my stomach and feel much calmer that way because of the pressure. I might give one a go when I've got the spare funds.

Weighted Blanket With 2 Replaceable Covers - Nano-ceramic Bead Technology - Heavy Sensory 2.0 Blankets - Great Sleep for People with Insomnia or Stress www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D6GQP8Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sQ8dEbAQCW26W?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
I have this one. I bought it for SN DC but they refused to try it so I use it. I love it and hate sleeping with a duvet now

WheresMyChocolate · 03/01/2020 23:16

I'm not in the UK and here you can get them on prescription so I have a hospital grade one. It has metal chains running through it and it makes a huge difference to my sleep. When my therapist recommended one I was sceptical but willing to try it, now I wouldn't be without it.

toomuchsplother · 04/01/2020 07:29

Make sure you get one that is suited to your body weight - 10% of your body weight max. There are places that hire them out for children to try , might be worth a google and see if there are any in your area

Mine arrived today, so tonight's the night! l've been sleeping with fleece bedding (amazing, l highly recommend it!), a duvet, a heavy velvet throw and a lighter fluffy one.
l've taken the two throws off and l've got the weighted blanket on top of the duvet.
Someone l've been talking to on social media says she has a 'very heavy one for anxiety' but she loves it.
Mine is probably much lighter than that, but l have arthritis and joint problems, and l was a bit worried about it aggravating that. l've been advised to try it for a few nights, someone said they felt quite constricted at first til they got used to it, and now they love it.
l'll report back when l've used it.

Hope you Had a good nights sleep!

I got one from Koala and it is very heavy (but so am I!). It's the best purchase I made this year - has improved my sleep massively. Used to wake in the night and then toss and turn and always had a bad neck from front sleeping. This has made me stay put in the night and my sleep has improved 100%. Would recommend.

katseyes7 · 07/01/2020 10:58

l tried mine for the first time last night. l can't even remember dropping off to sleep, and l slept almost 9 hours straight.
l woke up because my feet were cold, (the blanket had moved) probably because l usually have the duvet and two throws.
l'm going to try putting a folded throw on the bottom of the bed tonight so my feet don't get cold and wake me up.
From one night's trial, l'd say it's looking good!

Oldraver · 07/01/2020 11:54

justanother

I have just found the same. Have been using a 4.5/7 tog in rotation due to night sweats but recently had to use both due to now being cold

And oh the comfort from the extra weight was unbelievable, really helped with getting off to sleep quickly

pooopypants · 07/01/2020 12:00

I also have fibromyalgia and it does help me sleep, but tends to make my back pain worse. I think that I sleep more soundly, don't move as much and the pain is due to that.

I offset better sleep against the pain because I tend to be able to deal with pain better after a halfway decent sleep.

Trewser · 07/01/2020 12:07

I was cold last night so nicked a spare kids duvet - it was a really thick heavy one. I've never slept better Shock. So there must be something in it.

SunshineAngel · 07/01/2020 12:09

Yes I've got one. I can't sleep under it as my partner has epilepsy and can't use it (too suffocating if he has a fit in bed as if his head was under it he's not conscious enough to move it out of the way), but I snuggle under it on the couch when I'm on my own and it relaxes me and keeps me focused on whatever I'm doing - usually I flit from thing to thing all evening.

Sometimes though I'm too lazy to get it out as it is very heavy ha ha, but it is always worth it when I do!

HaHaVeryBunny · 07/01/2020 12:10

Yes, and would recommend them Smile

Trewser · 07/01/2020 12:13

Can't you have separate covers?

Dogleg · 07/01/2020 15:33

Okay I’ve ordered one!

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07D6GQP8Z?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

As soon as it arrives and I use it I’ll let you know!

Just reading your thread as I'm considering getting a blanket. Any updates OP?

Luaa · 19/01/2020 13:38

Last night was dds first night with hers and she was asleep earlier than she has been for well over a month. Waiting to see if it was a coincidence or the blanket.

TowerOfJoy · 19/01/2020 14:05

I've been thinking of getting a weighted blanket to help my sleep issues (stress and anxiety related). Would one be ok to use with 5 year old DD sharing my bed most nights?

Strongmummy · 19/01/2020 14:06

I have one. You won’t be able to toss and turn coz you’ll be fucking trapped under it. They’re heavy. I love it

Durgasarrow · 19/01/2020 14:32

I love mine so much. It's a game changer.

Durgasarrow · 19/01/2020 14:33

I think that there might be problems with a five year old sharing it--there are different weights for children than for adults.

Nat6999 · 19/01/2020 14:41

I'm thinking about getting one, I've recently been diagnosed with Autism & have ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis & Peripheral neuropathy. My sleep pattern is awful & I will try anything to get a good night's sleep.

calgaryreminiscence · 19/01/2020 14:44

good for anxiety, good for better sleep, me and both children love them and they’re used every night.

calgaryreminiscence · 19/01/2020 14:47

@TowerOfJoy you need to be careful with sleep weights for children, 10 percent of 5 year old bodyweight will be different to yours
