Ah poor old man take him to the vet and see what they say we had our 19year old cat Pts when she was old eating the jelly from her food she had renal failure.

MiniGuinness · 03/01/2020 10:18

Oh I am sorry OP, it sounds like it is time. Poor you, sounds like he is well loved though

Catsingangs · 03/01/2020 10:32

That is a good age for a cat, you must have given him lots of care and love over the years.
But the greatest act of kindness is the last one you can give him.
I would get some advice from the vet Flowers

I'd get advice from a vet, and see what they say. They'll only advise what is best for him. I'll be thinking of you both Flowers

Does he have a litter tray inside? Might be finding going outside less appealing and harder if legs working less well.
Good luck for Monday. 21 is a fine old age.

ElluesPichulobu · 03/01/2020 11:52

our old boy stopped going outside away thre age of 17 once the other local cats were all faster and stronger than him as he got more doddery.

I have heard of a cat living to the age of 24 but that would be like 110 in human terms. 21 is a very advanced age. he must have given you so much love.

wishing you all the best. this bit is never easy.

GuppytheCat · 03/01/2020 11:56

Can you find him something really shallow to use as a litter tray, in case he's struggling to climb into an ordinary one? Our ancient cat had a wide seed potting tray for a while. You can also get cardboard ones and cut the front down. But it does sound like the inevitable day might be near for your venerable old chap.

Damntheman · 03/01/2020 11:59

We lost our 21 year old in november and she was similar. I'm sorry OP

Pannalash · 03/01/2020 12:10

Seek advice from your vet he may need medication. Get an indoor cat litter it’s far too cold for an elderly cat to go outside.

tearsofrobertsmith · 03/01/2020 12:10

WTF?. Doublemum, you are disgusting. If that was attempt at humour you have failed miserably.

BearSoFair · 03/01/2020 12:11

In 7 years on MN I don't think I've ever instantly reported a post before...what a sad, pathetic life you must live doublemum to even consider making a remark like that.

unicornsrule · 03/01/2020 12:13

Thankyou bear foul behaviour

So sorry @unicornsrule, it's never easy when our pets near the end of their lives Thanks. Do you have a litter tray in the house? Would he use it? Or is he just doing his business anywhere?

acatcalledjohn · 03/01/2020 12:16

Cross posted re bowel control.

What a gorgeous face he has. Beautiful!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2020 12:21

Sounds like it's time OP. 21 is a wonderful age. Ask for this post to. R moved to the litter tray. You'll get really good support, and no horrible comments.

ChrisPriss · 03/01/2020 12:27

My old boy will be 21 in May, he's frail and deaf and does the occasional poo or wee inside, but he is still happy in himself and does go outside to patrol his territory. I'll be thinking of you on Monday, op xxx

Vinorosso74 · 03/01/2020 12:31

What a lovely face he has. It may well be his time but the vet will discuss things with you before you have to make a decision.
I think this is one of the hardest parts of having pets but 21 is an amazing age!

CormoranStrike · 03/01/2020 12:45

Sorry to read this.
I am not a massive cat person, but yours is lovely OP.
