I know it's not exactly exciting fare, but I want a new mug and can't find one that's just right.

Something that is nice to drink from. Half a pint or larger, pretty but not too feminine. I've trawled round town today but no success. So here I am, asking you for your mug recommendations please!

There was a thread with a lot on a few months (or maybe longer...) ago but I've searched and can't find it!

I bought one in the Oliver Bonas sale today. Pink washed finish, bulbous shape, gold rim.

I'm hoping it will be a good 'un.

But still mourning the loss of 'my' mug (perfect shape, weight and volume with silhouettes of Moose on it that I got from Niagara Falls in 2011) which smashed having fallen out of a badly stacked cupboard. (I still haven't quite forgiven DP for it-only half joking).

geeraf · 28/12/2019 18:06

I haven't heard of them before, will go and have a look thanks!

I feel your pain, my favourite mug is also in the bin but I only have myself to blame. All the ones I saw in the shops today were the wrong size or just didn't feel right. I think I want either bone China or stoneware, not that weird feeling in the middle somewhere stuff...

I love Orla Kiely mugs which I buy in JL. They have nice thin edges - I hate thick edges - but are quite robust and I like the patterns.

Mine is from Lakeland. It is satisfyingly rounded and has gold stripes.

Have a look at Dunoon pottery mugs available via Amazon. Lovely ceramic and china mugs with different designs. My favourite at the moment is a maths one which was a gift.

Muddlingalongalone · 28/12/2019 18:25

My denby azure large mug. It's fabulous.
My DM & DD got me 2 additional for Christmas and they are thicker and not quite as perfect.

geeraf · 28/12/2019 18:27

I was just looking at the denby azure online! It looks lovely to hold.

I'll go and check out the rest, thanks Grin

I have one of these from John Lewis. It's fab, holds approx 500ml, keeps tea warm for ages and is great to hold, DH asks me now if I want a bucket of tea! Grin

Emma Bridgewater 1/2 pint mug or a china one from Next which says “ Don’t go bacon my heart”

Bearlyclearly · 28/12/2019 18:52

I love Cornishware mugs, the biggest one they do holds 3/4 pint. They’re made with clay from the UK and have a good feel of chunkiness to them.

fairplay · 28/12/2019 19:16

Brixton pottery or cornishware for me

Hellokittymania · 28/12/2019 19:44

I really like quirky mugs, or mugs with funny sayings, or prints on them. I have a rolled doll Charlie and the chocolate factory mug that I bought at Waterstone for a couple of years ago. I also found a few from Azores, one has just another episode on it. I'm sorry, I'm using dictation so I'm sorry if the spelling is off.

TheRattleBag · 28/12/2019 19:52

I say this every time, but my favourite by far are the Taika mugs by Iittala.

They hold 400ml.

They're not cheap (usual price about £17 each but sometimes on sale) but they wash and wear really well. I've had the dark blue one for over 9 years and it still looks brand new.

I've been given various from. Cath kidson to novelty ones.
My fav I use is one from wilko. I got 6 to match old Kitchen for the mug tree to brighten it up.. Soon realised its a. Waste not using them.
Now I use them all. The time £2 each.. Lovely shape. Just right amount of tea. And wash lovely.
All the others are at the back of the cupboard

Toddlerteaplease · 28/12/2019 23:28

My 'specimen pot' as my colleagues have nicknamed it. They also disapprove of the colour of the tea.
